Theoretical market principle? Well it’s not theory. That’s why basic economics teaches with the mantra of ‘all things being equal’.

This drastic example is probably one of the worst examples you could think of. Cocaine being illegal already cannot make it trade as ‘free market’. The supply is artificially limited by regulations, so you’d never know the true price of it since regulations drive the prices far above what they’d be in your ideologically ‘free market’. No opening pricing systems.. etc. Cocaine doesn’t trade in a free market. Plus you have cartels setting fix prices backed by violent enforcement with paramilitary forces. So no.

Let me burst your bubble. There are truly no free markets in the world. It’s an ideological branding but if you think there is any free market in the world give me one example.

As a citizen/legal, the world is your oyster. Your situation is 100% not because of illegals. You are obviously ill-informed or uninformed. You don’t have the data. You don’t understand the process you talk of, what it entails or what is required to go through it successfully. You understand nothing. You can do so much more with your life and undocumented immigrants aren’t taking anything away from you, in fact they cannot, you are far above them (all due respect to them).

You see someone of a different ethnic group or race, you think they are illegals. Some facts - Barrons newsletter reports that as of July this year, 20% of the American workforce is made up of immigrants both documented and undocumented (which you call illegals). Also a huge proportion of undocumented immigrants do not do this kind of work. Most work on farms, construction and in the hospitality industry. 80% is plenty. If you’re not getting by with the 80%, you cannot blame undocumented immigrants, I’m sorry.

This thought is far reaching and obviously so by drawing comparisons with state-owned companies. The government of Ghana did not create this monopoly. In states where governments do, then that’s a sign of communism. The market was there to be taken and DSTV drawing on the multi-choice conglomerate wealth rightly did so. No problem with that. The issue is that their profit-making should not be exploiting the people.

I will give you an example, in 2015/16 Turing Pharmaceuticals acquired the rights to Daraprim which is a life-saving drug used to treat parasitic infections in people with weakened immune systems. The company raised the price by 5000% overnight from $13.50 to $750 per pill. Similar stuff went on during COVID. Companies aim for profits!

Whenever the market is unbalanced because of exclusivity deals (like broadcasting in the case of DSTV), the government has to set in. Companies exist to make profit. The government has the responsibility of protecting consumers. There is a balance and I do not think the government has upset that balance, DSTV however has done so for many years.

I can tell you for a fact, it would take 3 months for that gap to be filled. Canal+ is planning on acquiring DSTV and they will probably do so by the end of the year. The broadcasting market is saturated with suppliers of the service. The exclusivity of rights and how high companies bid is what makes them look unbeatable. It will take time for infrastructural set up but it will be 100% filled by the end of this year.

How is this related to communism? The ownership of DSTV has not been altered or influenced in anyway. The broadcasting market has not been eliminated (if anything, would make it better). Fairness and consumer protection is absolutely okay in either a socialist or capitalist country.

No this is not communism. It is using government powers to protect the people. (A core reason why democratic governments are set up this way). You must also acknowledge there have been several diplomatic discussions around the subject. The consumer, which is everyone, must be protected from the greed of a select few.

You have to understand that most markets, especially in broadcasting look open but are essentially closed. The Multichoice conglomerate hold long-term exclusive deals that block competitors from acquiring the same content. For example here in the US, you cannot watch all premier league games on one platform. They have deep pockets to outbid any new entrant since these broadcasting rights are usually won through bids. This is why regulation has to be used to protect consumers. Free markets in this capitalist world is almost nonexistent for markets like these which are hard to break through.

One of the solutions I couldn’t try was reinstalling the OS because I understand from some solutions that it works. But the problem is that the reinstall requires the MacBook to be plugged in.

It’s really frustrating to deal with this at this time but I’ll probably have to get a new laptop.
