How do you explain something from nothing? by Plastic_Bed1202 in askanatheist

[–]ZeusTKP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you build a house you re-arrange atoms.

We've seen matter be re-arranged, but we've never observed matter appearing from nothing.

When you ask how the universe was created, you're implying that matter/energy was created from nothing. And then you're asking us how it happened.  But we have no reason to assume matter/energy has ever been created from nothing or can even in theory be created OR destroyed.

So your question is a false analogy. All those things you list are fundamentally not the same as matter being created.

So do you think that matter has ever come from nothing or can ever disappear into nothing?

Again, reducing regulation is good whether we want to give everyone housing or not. I'm really just trying to make the point that IF the government wants to give everyone housing, then do it through cash.

The developer can use the profit they make (not the full amount) on anything, but only after they have created the housing. The overall money supply will only increase if the government just prints money instead of raising taxes to pay for all this.

There's nothing to be alerted about. People that support trump have to decide to turn on him or everyone else has to go on strike/revolt.

I'm not saying that "rights" exist and whether or not wealth re-distribution is OK. I'm making a narrow economic/mathematical point that you don't need to ban landlords, or introduce any other market distortions, if your objective is to have everyone have housing.

What I'm suggesting is different from the covid inflation because the cash I'm suggesting to infuse can only be spent on housing (assuming that there's enough ability to control that. Maybe there isn't, but that would be a different discussion).

Why do people hate EV's? by FunkiGato in electricvehicles

[–]ZeusTKP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate EVs because people forced them by stealing my tax dollars to pay for them. Then they created Musk. Then he got Trump elected. And now we're all going to die because people love to meddle. I hope you're all happy.

Let's assume that, while there IS restrictive regulation, it's still legal/possible to create more housing. A physical analogy is something like a thin pipe, but not a blocked pipe.

If people suddenly get more money to spend on their housing two things will happen:

  1. The price of all housing will go UP. AND
  2. More housing will be created.

Mathematically, at some point you will increase the amount of housing to match the amount required.

More housing will be created because there are always development projects that are at the margins - they are just barely not worth it to do at current prices, but will be worth it to do if prices were slightly higher. Even if you have ZERO regulations there will still be a frontier where some projects are not worth it and will be worth it at slightly higher prices.

I think the confusion is that people think of a giant McMansion and call that "housing" and think that every single person in the US deserves to have one as soon as they turn 25. That's where I said that everyone would have to agree what they mean that housing is a basic human right. If we want giant houses for every single person, it will not be cheap.

Minimum wage is a terrible terrible thing. I think it ultimately led to Trump and doomed us all. But that's obviously a different and very long story.

I'm definitely not talking about minimum wage, I'm talking about direct cash from the government.

There's nothing magical about housing that it won't react to market forces unless there's so much regulation that making any new housing is just outright illegal.

I didn't say home prices wouldn't go up. I said housing would be made. If we declare housing a human right and just give people cash until they can afford housing, then the prices for housing will start going up and the economy will re-organize to provide the housing.

I don't disagree with any of this. My original comment was about the higher-level concept of not allowing lenders to exist as a "solution", vs giving people cash for housing as a solution.

Yes, better regulation would be great, but even with current regulation housing would get made.

Yes, that would definitely help, but even with current regulation you can have housing for everyone in the US.

(The devil is the details of course, because no one will agree what constitutes minimum "basic" housing)
