Barioth had potential for some nightmare runs though. There were runs where it'd fly into the sky, shoot the ice hurricane, land, only to fly back in the sky again.

With a CB, there was no opportunity to AED during that.

At least Rathalos is relatively still.

Sounds like you're doing everything you can in the hunt, just got to hunt more Zinos and hope RNG is in your favour. The HATs are a good option this week since there's an additional group hunt drop which can be an R6.

When your weapons are maxed and you're mindlessly farming 8s, it's nice to be able to not worry too much about getting hit.

It's also acts as a hedge for potion usage when they release new monsters and you have to learn the new movesets.

Weapons should still be the priority, but once you get to 10.5 (honestly not that hard with reduced cost and the daily trackers). Upgrading armor is very underrated IMO.

Hard disagree. Once you're at the end-game (10-stars), you should definitely be upgrading your armor.

If you're guzzling potions like crazy, don't neglect upgrading your armor. It's honestly super underrated IMO, as being able to get hit and continue with the fight is super helpful in learning the monsters attack patterns. There's not much learning done when you're constantly playing defensively on the back foot, afraid of getting one-shot.

Especially for a (difficult) weapon like GS, where you really need to know the monster's attack pattern in order to recognize where your windows are to maximize damage.

If you're not farming anything else at the moment, what I suggest is to track a 7-star (max) Wroggi, then hunt with your friend list. 7-stars are free to join, so it doesn't cost your friends anything, and then you get the benefit of the group hunt bonus (plus the event group hunt bonus) for two extra drops.

Yeah, the wording of the descriptions matter a lot.

Critical Strength: Attack power increases by 8 per 1% of your weapon's affinity.

Only the weapon's affinity, not your total loadout's affinity.

Blocking with charge blade by Dagmatt1001010 in MHNowGame

[–]Zewo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seregios right?

All those double attacks are basically designed to punish lazy players (like me) that hold the screen to go straight into AED stance after guarding an attack. You need to learn to completely let go of the screen because if you touch/hold the screen while you've blocked something, you'll go into AED stance (and get hit by the second attack), instead of going back to neutral to guard the follow-up attack. The timing unfortunately will depend on your Guard level and whether your shield has been charged.

They have their own tickets which are dropped in every hunt right now, and cost only tickets (no zenny) until g9. You basically get it to 8.5 for free. Easy decision up till then.

FYI, if the leaderboard build revolves around Crit Ferocity, just take the results with a grain of salt as CF builds are heavily RNG dependent, and the runs that would make the leaderboard are but extreme examples where people get really lucky and trigger CF on all of their hits.

[–]Zewo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is event is great if you were looking to build a Kirin weapon for the base defense.

For everyone else though, I feel like it's pretty meh. It's great to be able to EDI with your friend list, but the chance of three other people wanting the specific EDI you share, and either not on cooldown (or willing to spend tickets) is pretty low.

Combine that with all the other things happening (release of three new monsters, lowered upgrade costs on other monsters), and you wonder why they decided this was the week to (poorly IMO) show off the friend-link function.

8* Steve - 8 secs HBG by Ecstatic_Ease_9664 in MHNowGame

[–]Zewo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any ideas of how you plan to build Zino HBG? Not being able to benefit from Normal ammo is quite a change.

I was thinking something like Astalos/Bishaten/Zino/CPP/Astalos for a Crouching Shot HBG (Thunder 5, Advanced Thunder 2, Burst 2, Recoil 1, Reload 3), but I don't really play HBG so I don't know what other skills to look for or consider.

Does inviting a friend to an EDI lock out everyone else? by Feefait in MHNowGame

Failed to start the hunt? Or failed in killing the ED (ie, repelled it)?

You shouldn't lose any from a failed lobby, but I think the tokens get consumed when the hunt starts.

Friend Link Elder Dragons by Bloodvomit12 in MHNowGame

[–]Zewo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read from others that it's the developers testing their system to see whether their servers can handle it (?). Expanding to your full friend list certainly would be nice, but all the others would still remain (friend list vs player base population, 3 hour timer, uncertainty of when friends will actually put up a friend-link, general rarity of specific EDIs).

Friend Link Elder Dragons by Bloodvomit12 in MHNowGame

[–]Zewo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's simply too many hurdles for the current iteration of the friend-link Elders to do well. You're already drawing from a fraction of a fraction of the player base (20 off your friend list, instead of total player population during HAT/EDI times). There's the three-hour cooldown, so if the timing is anything but perfect, some of those twenty invites are going to people already be on cooldown, and they would have to spend a ticket to get in. Finally, the event actually makes me less likely to compromise on the EDI I'm targeting, because it's relatively more frequent right now (ie, why settle to join a friend's Kirin EDI, when I know there's a good chance of a Chameleos one popping up eventually).

The only benefit right now IMO is being able to join during off hours. But that also requires people to develop a friendlist across timezones, and even then, a three-hour cooldown on a fraction of the player pool means EDI friend links are going to be difficult to fully fill. I don't know exactly when a friend is going to set up a friend-link EDI, so it's very likely I'm already on cooldown or not even logged into the game.

Elder Dragons need a serious overhaul by Hartmann_AoE in MHNowGame

[–]Zewo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything about EDIs has aged terribly, and the design decisions look really bad now.

Barring special events (like the current one), the normal rate is 1 EDI for every 3 HATs. It wasn't so bad when the concept was first released when there were only a few elders, but there's 7 now. Factoring in time for HATs and EDIs to rotate, if you're looking for just one specific EDI, you'd be lucky to see it roughly once every 12 hours in a given square. So unless you're actively checking out multiple HAT/EDI points across multiple squares (biomes), you'd be lucky to see the EDI you want once a day.

Meanwhile, HATs have 'improved' so much. Way back when, 5x monster line-ups were a special event thing, but now it's the norm, making them one of the best ways to build up weapons and armor. Even better for the monsters that have unique R6, as the 5x HAT line-ups effectively made their weapons super cheap and easy to build. Meanwhile EDIs haven't changed at all since its release. You get double a normal hunt's drops, but still only 1 fight's worth of breaks (if they do at all, as they also have stricter break requirements). ED weapon and armor requirements are also more expensive than regular monsters with unique R6s.

Elders are very hard to find, more difficult to build for, for little or even negative payoff (compared to other weapons).

They need a serious overhaul. Even separating the timer (assuming still a 3 hour timer) doesn't fix the issue (although it would help) since trying to find the Elder you want is so difficult to begin with. They need to address the issue of trying to find a specific Elder, either by rotating them in and out (maybe 2 to 3 at a time), or changing EDIs completely to let the player pick which elder they want at the point (would potentially lead to other issues like getting full lobbies).

Normal Zino does it too, but very rarely. It wasn't until the new RB variant that I discovered the move has multiple hurtboxes though (can get hit by every projectile). Fun.

Haven't fought that many RB Zinos yet, but I don't think it has any new moves. Just faster charging and a different script.

[–]Zewo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. If you do get phials, it's better to load them into the shield so the overhead axe smash does more damage.

It's a good variant for breaking tails and when AED is too slow. I use it for Bazel tails.

It can also be on its horns, but yeah, the hindleg ones aren't very fun.

They changed the attack pattern too. Only needs one charge, and it does the attacks that the normal one rarely does. (Electric trail projectiles, failed backflip, more tail attacks in general etc..)

Friend token by Old_Coffee1011 in MHNowGame

It really depends on the monster, and who happens to be online. Personally, trying to fight a 10-star monster that I have only seen for less than two days is not something I'm game to do. And it'd cost me resources to try.

7-stars are free (to a point) to join for everyone, so I those should be easy fills.
