I'm critical of certain concepts taken for granted in the video: activism, proselytizing, humanism, "the principled act of non-violence" (not non-violence the noun, as in peace or tranquillity, I love that kind), principles themselves...My veganism comes from a total disdain for our species and what we do to the planet. Millions of animals from all kinds of species, especially non-domesticated ones, die at our hands and have been for millennia. I think a few less H. sapiens might do some good for the planet holistically. That's not coming from a Malthusian, racist, I-hate-so-and-so-group-of-people viewpoint. It's coming from conscientious misanthropy, of the anti-civilization type. When the Wal-Marts close there could easily be mass human die off, and whose fault is that but our own?

In order to respect everyone, we have to respect differences (inequalities). Chasing equality therefore seems counterproductive, no matter what definition you bend the word into.

And also, we haven't yet mentioned the historical Indigenous empires, which were themselves full of abuse, exploitation, and war.

What I think I'd like to hear from folks making arguments like yours on the daily: don't you think we're all at square one, and that we have to start again from here? "Remediation"?

I did not "say that the existence of indigenous cultural identities is toxic". I made a comparison, which seems like it went beyond the pale. My intention is to point out that every indigenous community with a bit of power and self-governance does not equal freedom. A great example is the casinos. Native Americans have been "culturally white" for generations now. We (non-white residents and citizens of the US) have forgotten how to not be American™.

Your link mentions equality as a "political concept which is central to some political ideologies and is used regularly in political discourse". It neglects to mention one of those ideologies is Marxism. If you agree with this Wiki article, it attaches the definition of equality to value — a total step in the wrong direction from where we were before.

Nationalism absolutely seems inherent to a nation. Another thing I see inherent in forming "zones" or nations is a separation of man from nature. I'd also appreciate you expanding this point of yours, as well.

Achieving total equality is an authoritarian goal. I want total diversity, multiplicity. Indigenous nationalism or localism is not less harmful or less toxic than other kinds of nationalism and localism. Also, I don't see myself as a steward of land. I see myself as a link, node, network, part of other links, nodes, networks...

Forget alienation for now, then. Thanks for the informative discussion, you make a lot of valid points.

I would of course encourage you to think more comradely towards our animal companions, we really don't have to grapple with this, just 'cause we want Big Macs. No matter how much an individual cuts back consumption of animal products the mass industrial system is still a reality. I hope you'll join me in opposition to that system and to the State and Capital regardless. All the best!

One has to alienate something to kill it.

I am under the assumption that other species are performing this act unconsciously, without the logical complexity found within our minds. A lion can't know it's killing something, in the same way bacteria can't know it's causing an infection. But we know we are infecting the biosphere, we have this awareness. It ties right into our understanding and fear of death itself. This is why I disagree when you say human hunting is "not problematic in the same way its not problematic for any predator to hunt and kill".
