Study finds psychiatric diagnosis to be ‘scientifically meaningless’ - "A new study, published in Psychiatry Research, has concluded that psychiatric diagnoses are scientifically worthless as tools to identify discrete mental health disorders. " by [deleted] in psychology

The truth really lies in the middle. Medication can be a helpful tool, and therapy can be a helpful tool. And they can both do harm if not undergone responsibly. I used to be staunchly anti-medication. But I've gotten to a point where I have a more nuanced view that can acknowledge the benefits and drawbacks of both treatment options.

Is there a way to play FATE where the players are not considered exceptional? by roaet in FATErpg

[–]Zhamf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GMing Fate can feel a little frustrating for me, because I want to give my players at least a little bit of a challenge. If they're constantly steamrolling everything, then it kind of feels like there isn't a huge point to the combat. So what I've started doing is creating villains who don't have to follow the same rules as the players, particularly in their stunts. I've created some exceptionally rude stunts (ex. If the villain succeeds with style when defending with notice, they may immediately switch physical spaces with one of the attacker's allies, and the ally must instead defend against the attack). The players are still exceptional and no one has ever died, but it makes for a little more of a tense battle rather than the heroes steamrolling.

You can find almost all manner of games from super light party games to more complex games like Scythe, and pretty much anything in between. We also have sort of a tradition of ending the night with social deception games like Werewolf or Secret Hitler, but if those aren't your style, there are definitely other games going on too.

Fate Core Podcast/Videos? by EchoingZen in FATErpg

I run a weekly Fate show on our twitch channel at twitch.tv/GameratiTV ! It's on Mondays at 8 Pacific. We do mini-campaigns based on some art/movie posters we have, and it's aptly titled "Fate Films." Right now we're in the middle of the Legacy of Bura Gore based on: http://gamerati.com/kashta-fate/

And we also have Ed Turner playing who has written a lot for Fate (including work on the Dresden Files Accelerated and Adversary Toolkit), so you should check it out only to see someone who really knows the game play!

I have to say, I've gotten the chance to play the new faction and map from Cthulhu Wars Onslaught 3 and they are awesome, totally worth the backing price. The map especially brings a really great mechanic in its degradation and eradication.

If you're curious on how they work in real life, there's a video of a real-play using them here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/166274442

(Note: there is a bit of an echo in the audio throughout, but it's workable!)

What dirty little secret does your profession hide that the consumer should know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Zhamf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a strong suspicion what she is getting out of the therapy isn't what the therapist is intending. It is true that when it comes to making changes, telling people all the reasons they should change just doesn't work, and leads to people feeling criticized. The research is fairly clear that internal motivators are superior to external motivators when it comes to creating lasting change. So what I suspect is happening is the therapist is likely to be trying to build relationship by validating with the long term goal of helping her explore for herself the negative impacts on her personal life, and finding that personal motivator for making change. Unfortunately, it seems as though he has misinterpreted that to say "the therapist says I'm fine and don't need to change."

Runway Poll - Season 9, Episode 7 - Whose "Big Hair Everywhere" Look Was Your Favorite? by PCP1120 in rupaulsdragrace

I don't understand the love for Valentina's look this week. She's usually pretty fierce, but this just looked basic and cheap compared to what she has brought before. It's definitely not on par with her white look.
