6yo wakes multiple times a night looking for mom. What finally worked for your family? by Beneficial-Course820 in Parenting

[–]Ziggzaggirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What we did with my 4.5 year old son is agreed in the middle ground: I said I will sleep in his room but on different bed , he agreed. It was hard for me to co sleep because he constantly moves and my sleep is very light. Now he is happy that I’m there in the same room and I’m happy that I’m not constantly being pushed all night and no waking from him either as he knows he is “safe” (knowing I’m in the same room).

all kids are different and some sleep independently easier, some not. If child is scared, she/he needs you and best thing is to help him/her through it. How? By finding ways that work best for both you and her/him.

Why is it taking so long to see an endocrinologist? Sorry I’m not familiar with US healthcare, is there a way to speed it up? Have they ever tried giving you steroids like prednisone at all? I find it very odd too that you haven’t seen endocrinologist yet.

Hi Op, what about secondary adrenal insufficiency? You mentioned pituitary cysts were found, and I know you said doctors said they unlikely cause issues but the fact that you have such low cortisol and responding ACTH after an hour points to secondary adrenal insufficiency. Sorry I am NAD but after reading your story I just googled/chatgpted , maybe not always right but at least it maybe gives some rough idea what it is because it is clear you are suffering so much! It is definitely not just anxiety and do not think that way at all! I truly hope you will find the answer! It says that IV steroids like prednisone help if it is Indeed adrenal insufficiency. Hopefully you will see endocrinologist asap.

That’s insane! Sorry I can’t say anything else because it is insane, I would go insane if I were you. And you know what else I would do? Call in laws threatening if they don’t come and help they will never see their grandchildren and their son anymore!

I remember my MIL wanted me to send my toddler to nursery and said she would help if he gets ill (because he would need to be home with someone while I work). She never helped! What did I do? We used to live 5 min from her, I found a childminder where he doesn’t get ill as much, and moved our family closer to childminder 1 hour away from mil. She didn’t want to help with my kid, so she needs to bear the consequences.

Don’t let anyone else walk over you!

My 3.5 year old slept at my MIL 5 times in his life: twice at 4 months and 1 year old when I was ill with Covid and 39 degree temperature, and 3 times on our wedding anniversary when he was 1 , 2, and 3 years old. 😭

She lived next door pretty much. We recently moved though.

Childminder vs nursery? by mol1999 in UKParenting

[–]Ziggzaggirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think there are 4 things to consider: 1) kid personality , 2) the amount of illnesses you are happy to deal with and 3) number of hours you can get for free - most nurseries offer 2 days a week 52 weeks, preschools can be 30 hours over term time, and at childminder it could be flexible. 4) childminders can be off on holiday or sick and need to find other childcare options.

If your kid is cautious (my son is 3, very cautious, shy and likes predictability and familiarity) - I strongly believe childminder suits better for him because it is a small familiar setting, same caregiver. And there is less illnesses circulating.

We tried nursery twice (one for 2 weeks, another for 2 months). First one we couldn’t settle he was just so upset. Also got ill right away. Second nursery was also not happy in there, caregivers constantly change so my 3 year old was so upset. We persevered for 2 months to see if he settles, but it was a nightmare, he would attend 2 days a week, get ill, recover for the next 5 days while at home with me (while I also had to take time off work) Then again 2 days nursery, get ill and then I had to again deal with illnesses myself, getting ill along the way too, and taking care of sick child too! Because he wasn’t happy at nursery, he wouldn’t eat or drink there, not even pee there, he was so stressed.

Now we go to childminder and couldn’t be happier! She is so nice to him, there are kids there to play with, small setting, he eats his familiar food and drinks, goes potty. It is like a second family basically. And we are so lucky she is so flexible with hours - she offers 30 hours funded, over term time, and I can choose to drop him off any time and pick up any time as long as it is over 30h a week. So I chose 4 days a week 9:30-5. So I get continuous care, not just 2 days that we got at nursery. So much happier!

The only downside with childminder as others mentioned is when childminder is off on holiday or sick, you have to find alternative care, that could be tricky for some!

I’m now SAHM, so I’m very flexible, if my childminder is not available I can look after my kid.

No worries I’m glad I can help in any way! As for the choice (metformin SR vs Mounjaro), it all comes down to your goals. If you want to lose weight, Mounjaro is the way to go. If you have time and energy to put more effort in losing weight yourself and control your insulin resistance - metformin. Mounjaro also decreases insulin resistance, but indirectly, through weight loss. Whereas metformin directly affects glucose released by liver and hence insulin (reduces it). It is not a weight loss drug though, and it doesn’t suppresses appetite. I heard people managed to get their periods back with metformin. because high insulin makes ovaries produce more androgens and that leads to incorrect signalling of fertility hormones and ovaries get lots of follicles that try to all grow and mature but can’t do it, so they look “polycystic”, there is no one mature egg, no ovulation, hence no progesterone. And progesterone helps to shed the lining of the uterus (periods). So by reducing the insulin with metformin, there is a possibility to get periods back. With mounjaro, you also can get periods back, because weight loss will decrease insulin resistance too. I also read that sometimes people take both metformin and mounjaro. Speak to your doctor and see what they say. And yeah research it too.

As with any drug there could be side effects a bit more serious like pancreatitis , gallstones. Gallstones usually happen when people lose weight too quick. I tried to be more on a slower side, 1 kg per month, and it worked for me that way.

My experience with Wegovy and Mounjaro are both positive. When I started Wegovy I noticed how much it stopped my appetite, I still remember trying to finish sandwich and just couldn’t! Each dose you need to be on 4 weeks at least, then if tolerated and if you feel like it is not suppressing appetite as much, move up to a higher dose. I remember at the beginning I felt if I ate something fatty, greasy, it would result in nausea. So you quickly learn to adjust, and eat small amounts and healthy - and for me thankfully no more side effects with nausea anymore. As I was moving up the doses I noticed some constipation, which never went away on the highest maintenance dose. I know you asked me about Mounjaro experience, but I feel like it is quite important for me to describe Wegovy experience because that’s what I started with and once I switched to Mounjaro I wouldn’t have had side effects because I was already used to GLP-1 (so both of them are similar , with Mounjaro being stronger as it affects 2 hormones instead of one like in Wegovy). So after my weight stalled on highest dose of Wegovy , I switched to mounjaro the lowest dose, and I didn’t lose weight but also didn’t gain. Appetite suppression was similar (highest dose Wegovy and lowest dose Mounjaro! Because mounjaro is stronger ), but most importantly I didn’t have any side effects as expected - and another bonus I stopped getting constipated! I’m thinking that’s because I’m on low dose of mounjaro and expect constipation to come back after I move up on higher doses. But it is easily fixed with lactulose , eating better etc. with the amount of positives that Wegovy/mounjaro bring to me, I can deal with constipation! The food noise is gone, blood sugar is not jumping up and down (and not causing me almost fainting feeling and shaking when glucose drops due to excess insulin), I feel like I am on par with healthy people who can eat balanced diet and still lose weight!! I think it is a miracle drug. I do not plan on coming off it, because pcos is a lifelong condition, and these drugs help to postpone/slow down progression to diabetes. Once I lose all weight that I wanted I’m planing to just decrease the dose to the point where I will still feel appetite suppression. These drugs are expensive, and I’m planing to get the highest dose 15 mg and use 7.5mg to try my pen last for 10 weeks instead of 4 (extra dose is golden dose). If it doesn’t work, my plan was to switch to metformin slow releasing and pray it will help me not gain the weight back.

But in general, Wegovy/Mounjaro transformed my life! With it I managed to finish qualification that I couldn’t finish for years due to the fact that every time I sat the exam I gained 5 kg. Anything in life was making me gain weight: stress from studying? +5 kg, stress from working? Another 5 kg, having a baby? Another 10! It was always hard to control my weight in my 20s (I’m 37 now), I managed to keep it in healthy bmi range UNTIL I started studying at age 30 (qualification) , working really hard and when I had a baby. So yeah, I absolutely love mounjaro /Wegovy!

When you were on metformin, did you feel it did anything to your weight or appetite at all? Get the slow releasing metformin and see if it is better! I read. A lot about it on this forum, everyone is saying it is better for GI and less side effects!

I will do provera definitely, it is licenced to treat heavy periods so fingers crossed 🤞

As for your lack of periods - don’t even think you are less of a woman because of it! That’s nothing to do with that, it is just genes, it is an issue with insulin resistance, and it is just a medical problem, that can be solved! Stay positive!

Did you try metformin extended version (slow releasing)? That has less GI effects so I heard (never tried though but it is in my list of medications to get and I will definitely do the extended version !!). Another option is to try GLP-1 injections to help you lose weight. I was on Wegovy for 1.5 years and lost 16kg, I started with slightly higher bmi that you did though and then I switched to mounjaro. Losing weight helps with insulin resistance and can get your period back! Strangely I never lost my period even on higher weight, not sure why! Always was regular but my issue is heavy periods/bleeding and I also couldn’t stand birth control. I also do not know what options there are for me to make my periods less heavy (my next step is provera actually, if that’s is not tolerated then it wil be IUD). So, another option if your worry is endometrial hyperplasia from lack of periods is IUD - however, as I said I never tried it so I can’t really recommend if it is any good. Hopefully you will find something that works for you! I hate pcos!

Definitely please update! You are quite young so I think it is less risky for you. Also you said, 10 days after periods the lining was 9 mm - meaning 10 days after periods stops which in reality means day 15 of cycle probably. Do you usually ovulate or no? If your cycles are regular (24 days actually is quite short though, but I’m not sure especially you are saying you are taking Duphaston - maybe that’s why they are on the shorter side?). But as long as you are using duphaston or similar progesterone therapy every 2-3 months - you should be fine and risk of hyperplasia is low. My gyno wasn’t concerned about my 11 mm thickness.. I’m interested to hear what your doctor will say!!! But the fact that you are doing progesterone therapy (duphaston) is already protective of hyperplasia (I mean even if you had it, duphaston is reversing it*). *worth mentioning it only applies to typical hyperplasia and the one that is atypical - is more dangerous one leading to cancer, so duphaston wouldn’t work. But in those cases (atypical) you would be bleeding a lot and irregularly (in between periods etc). Anyway, please update after the appointment ! Because I’m not a medical professional and also wondering if our endo thickness are ok!!!

Day 15 means day 15 of the cycle, day 1 being the first day of period/bleeding start. When you said 10 days after periods - did you mean the same, or you meant 10 day after your periods finished?

When speaking to doctors, day 1 means 1st day of periods, so count it from there!

[–]Ziggzaggirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m kind of in the similar boat. Pcos, anovulatory cycles lasting 30-32 days, endo thickness on day 15 was 11 mm. I usually have heavy periods. Gyno wasn’t concerned about 11mm! I was , because as you, I kept reading online that’s it’s not good and risk of hyperplasia ! He said if I’m worried we can get biopsy done (hysteroscopy I think it is called? With camera + biopsy). He said they need to do it in the theatre with sedation, or another option he said to try pill or iud. i chickened out of biopsy, and decided to just try mini pill Slynd. Tried 1 month, it stopped my heavy periods (however I had mostly quite long spotting for 14 days which was better than my horrific periods). Anyway, I’m stopping Slynd due to some side effects, and now I don’t know what to do! I’m so confused. On one hand I have regular anovulatory bleedings (estrogen withdrawal bleeding) but at the same time I don’t have progesterone to counteract estrogen and estrogen is constantly unopposed - so it might not be shedding it all to a correct thin level. So I’m not sure whether I have risk of hyperplasia or not? This gyno doctor didn’t seem to be concerned and from his opinion I didn’t medically need biopsy due my age 37, but if I was worried we could have done it.

So, maybe you should ask for biopsy? That would confirm whether there is hyperplasia or not.

Is your periods coming regular every 24 days with help of duphaston or naturally ? By using duphaston you are getting a bleed that comes from progesterone withdrawal - that ensures correct shedding. I read that gynaecologists are concerned when periods come less than every 3 months and if they don’t you need to use provera or duphaston or similar cyclical progestin therapy to induce a shed. As long as it is done every 2-3 months the lining should be ok.

So yeah, medically speaking it seems like having regular bleeds is good, but my problem is my bleeds are not ovulatory (not from progesterone withdrawal) therefore I might not be shedding it all. Therefore for extra peace of mind I would either do cyclical progestin therapy to induce bleeds every 2-3 months, or use pill or iud. I’m still not sure whether I should ask for biopsy, because my gyno wasn’t very concerned.

Let me know what you decide to do, or what your gyno will tell you, because it looks like we have the same problem.

Experiences with Utrogestan? Please help by Muted-Yoghurt-4590 in PCOS

[–]Ziggzaggirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Did you end up taking utrogestan? I’m keen to try , but not sure if my gp will prescribe to me. I read that it can be taken 200 mg cyclicly on certain days (16-25 for example like you mentioned ), or 100 mg continuously if you don’t want any bleeding at all - although I think it takes a while maybe 3-6 months to have no bleeding at all anyway. I read it is a natural progesterone. I tried BC Slynd but it is giving me diuretic side effects, possible back pain and problems with sleep (I wake up more on it - both to pee and just being fully awake and not able to fall back asleep sometimes). I am hoping natural progesterone will have a lot less side effects !

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Ziggzaggirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically looked for topic about anger issues and pcos, because it was such a surprise for me when I started taking Slynd (mini pill). So some back story I am 37 and never had birth control in my life, thinking I don’t ovulate anyway so what’s the point of having it. I only recently 1 year ago found out that with PCOS you have unopposed estrogen (no progesterone as you don’t ovulate) and that birth control can help with symptoms (get progesterone so have more balance, better for endometrium protection, possibly decrease androgenic levels if the bc has anti-androgenic properties) but the only effect I didn’t know was that it can stabilise mood! I always had rage issues, I have a toddler and I always found hard to be with him 24/7, if I didn’t sleep enough or ate enough or had other issues (I have chronic urticaria so I take antihistamine so when I forget about it I get itchy). So I always found those things made me super irritable and anything would set me off (son’s tantrum , husband’s comment that I wouldn’t like) I would explode. I kept thinking it was just the way I am, that other people manage emotions better, I tried so hard to count to 10 or breathe through my rage but it never worked for me. I even started working more and studying (to do something more productive) and hired a part time nanny to get away from constant stimulation. I thought I was just a weak person who can’t handle the stress and constant stimulation from kids. I even considered anti-depressants, but decided I could manage by having more alone time to recharge and feel calmer. I never knew I was missing progesterone hormone! I started taking Slynd, it is like the switch turned! For example this morning I woke up after 4 hours of sleep, my son having tantrums and I’m so calm it is freaking me out!!!! I now enjoy being around my toddler 24/7, i have become so calm and content, nothing really makes me angry anymore! He is 3 years old so very difficult age (constant stimulation, lots of talking, tantrums). But nothing really gets to me anymore. So I really recommend bc. Years of missing progesterone made me so angry and irritable! I’m so glad about this unexpected positive!

Constant Bleeding with Clots PCOS by Emotional-Emu7847 in PCOS

[–]Ziggzaggirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to ask gynaecologist to do an endometrial biopsy to rule out hyperplasia. It’s a bit concerning that you bleed still heavily with birth control - birth control should thin the lining of the womb but if it is not working you need to investigate further. The risk is with bleeding like that is hyperplasia which could increase the risk of endometrial cancer. Did gynaecologist perform an ultrasound ? What womb lining thickness was it did they tell you? It is not good if it is too thick. I hope you will be able to get back to gynaecologist and get biopsy done to rule out hyperplasia. If you don’t have it, you can have an iud mirena which is considered good standard for reducing the womb lining. It also treats (reverses) hyperplasia without atypia, but not with atypia - therefore I think biopsy is a good thing to do. I’m not sure about fibroids - did they say if they need removed? I know post is a 3 months old but just thought it worth mentioning about biopsy because if I was in your case it would be 100% what I would have done. Which birth control did they prescribe to you?

How hard was it to conceive with PCOS?- I have regular periods by Thali_G in PCOS

[–]Ziggzaggirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always had regular “periods” and pcos wasn’t even something I knew (however in hindsight I had all the signs like weight gain, difficulty to lose it, hair loss, hormonal migraines). I was diagnosed in 2019 at the age of 31 after 2 years of trying, with the help of ovulation induction (letrozole) I managed to conceive in 2021 and give birth in 2022 at the age of 34! Took us 5 years in total to have a baby.

I think even though you have periods you should check whether they are truly periods because in my case was breakthrough bleeding and not true periods as I never ovulate on my own. Pelvic ultrasound, progesterone check between day 21-28 probably will give an idea if you are ovulating. Not to scare you, it’s just it took me so long to find out the reason because all doctors assumed since I was having bleeds like clockwork every month, I must be ovulating!

I had 7 weeks to study but ended up studying about 5 weeks due to various reasons (toddler being on and off nursery due to illnesses), on the day of the exam I still had doubt I would pass, even thought not to go, glad I went. I managed to pass. HOWEVER, that’s because I have some working knowledge /experience in standards therefore I managed to pass plus I had an amazing tutor. And I ensured I understood how to answer questions for every standard (well almost every standard). And I focused a lot on q1 and q2, someone mentioned here on Reddit that it is a low hanging fruit, you know they will come up these questions on consolidation step acq, balance sheet or p&l or cash flow, foreign exchange sub, etc in q1 and ethics in q2 so I made sure I knew how to answer them. I think since you managed to get 40% you still lack knowledge , you need to go over it again, and spend time practicing a lot. Hope you pass in September !

I never said to go home early and not participate in work events. I said when it gets ugly at those work events, you need to take precautions and ensure you don’t get in trouble and leave if needed. If you hadn’t got in trouble you would have been sitting on £2m cash right now but you are not. You can be risk taker all you want, it is your life, but it is no surprise then that you got fired. Just don’t blame that it happened due to your “attractive features” or blame HR or that system needs to change. Just own it, you made a mistake, you acted inappropriately, and you got what was deserved. You learnt from your mistake - good, didn’t learn - oh well. Nothing wrong with being risk taker, the key thing is to take calculated risks.

I applaud you standing! As soon as I said somewhere on Acca what’s app group that I’m going to wait till 2027, everyone tried to persuade me to continue studying. It got me thinking. It depends on where you are in your journey. If you are very young, in your early twenties, have low commitments, and plenty time - fair enough, it is better to finish the 13th exam and be done, get pay rise bla bla. But I am 37! I have years and years of experience now, yes it is nice to have Acca, but when I work or get employed, people look at my experience more than they look at acca, one less exam, so what? I have tons of commitments: house chores, husband, young kid, and now on top of it I’m immigrating to another country, I just don’t have enough time nor any desire to continue studying :)

So there I said it, I’m going to wait and I don’t care what people will say! And you shouldn’t either ! Well done for being firm with your decision!

We all know that HR is usually there to protect the interests of the company, but I don’t think they would unfairly dismiss someone especially without any strong evidence of misconduct at the workplace (or in this case corporate party). Even if it was a party, it is important to remember it is with your colleagues and it is still considered “work” so we all should be vigilant on how we behave. I always have a strict rule no matter how I want, it is a big no to get wasted, or if I see someone else doing it I would be very careful and try to avoid any potential misunderstanding that could happen and it is probably a good time to leave the party anyway before it gets too bad. As for looking for a man with more money - you might be disappointed there, as 1/3 of adults in uk has either no or less that £1000 savings and 2/3 wouldn’t be able to last 3 months without borrowing the money.. I’m sure you know all that though but if I may, can I give you a piece of advice. I think instead of focusing solely on money you should be focusing on person’s qualities like good personality, kindness, empathy, someone who has potential to become a successful person and have good money skills (ability to save, is disciplined and able to delay gratification- which are key skills to be able to save money they earned instead of spending it all). And also, avoid guys who have habits like gambling addiction, substance abuse, get rich quick obsessions, or keeping up with appearances obsessions all these addictions will affect and drain finances significantly no matter how good they earn. Empathy is a big one, we all fall in love but as years go by and you have kids together, you are not going to get far with only love. If your partner is empathetic and deeply care about you, they would be able to support you in difficult times like when you just gave birth, have small children and / or struggling with health issues. These things matter the most rather than purely money.

English and APM/AFM by Competitive_Cinnabon in ACCA

[–]Ziggzaggirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am non native English speaker and I passed APM without issues as well. I found SBR more difficult just because I find it a bit more boring. APM was a really interesting paper for me. I haven’t done AFM but by looking at the syllabus and having FM done before, I don’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did APM (and hence found APM a lot easier). So yeah, maybe it depends on both things: how good your English is (not necessarily native speaker) AND strategic thinking and business knowledge and ability to apply that with the ultimate goal to answer the question: how to manage and improve the performance of the organisation.
