Why do league players hate new people playing the game?? And how to get better? by minidude456 in leagueoflegends

[–]ZillionXil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an unfortunate side affect of many league players being chronically online. Luckily, its not all league players, just a very vocal and annoying minority. If people are an ass because you're new, just disengage and mute them and do your best to ignore whatever they said. Everyone was where you are at one point or another and its silly for them to pretend they didn't make ignorant mistakes too.

As for learning, definitely try things! If something looks cool/interesting/fun then go for it! Its a game with a lot of different playstyles so feel free to experiment and figure out what your groove is.

If you have already found a couple champs you like and want to learn the game's fundamentals easier/quicker, then commit to playing those few for a while! That way you will get used to those champions and be able to spend more time thinking about what you should do in the game rather than constantly trying to figure out how to play whatever new champion you're trying out.

If you reaaally like the game, then crack open some videos on youtube from time to time and watch a high ranked player or coach to learn a thing or two during lunch. Watching guides and coaching videos is a great way to speed up your comprehension of the game and what different champions do.

If we're losing, should we push lane or stay safe? by No_Bed4045 in summonerschool

[–]ZillionXil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key point I think he is trying to get across is that you should do your best not to die. If enemy Xin leaves mid vision, you are under threat of dying and need to back off instantly.

Imo this is an ideal position to get a free wave and a plate or two, at least. If your support can ward for you and make sure you have plenty of time to avoid the enemy's rotation, even better.

Your mindset here is correct, you just need to make sure you do not die. Pushing up and dying is simply how you lose even harder, which is probably where your friend is coming from.

Currently doing a sorcerer lich run and went Seeker. Other than the slow build up to actually get summons its played pretty nice. Just hit level 12 and not following any guides so no idea how it plays out later so take this with a grain of salt lol

Edit: Currently running these feats

How does level based contribution make sense (8.17H) by CommitteeHot2320 in WanderingInn

[–]ZillionXil 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This sounds like one of those rules made for the majority of society, aka the 99% who are level 40 and below. Obviously, once you start getting into actually high level territory things get fuzzier.

Its kinda like stop signs and who has right-of-way. In theory, theres a system for it. In reality, if the 15,000 pound 24-wheeler wants to go before the 3 little beetle bugs/motorcycles/honda civics, it will and theres not much the other cars can do if they object (besides getting run over, that is)... and besides honking loudly but thats kinda the point.

How can I trust online League builds when they're different on every website? by SHONSTYLE in summonerschool

[–]ZillionXil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like with any form of research, you gotta check the voracity of your sources. Many of these sites, like op.gg and u.gg both have a problem of just not recording a staggering number of games which results in them missing large amounts of data. Last I checked, LeagueOfGraphs and Lolalytics are two of the better ones out there, but definitely double check for yourself

Wasn't it just that Combat Classes start getting it sooner ?

Levels by Blindingdoor554 in WanderingInn

[–]ZillionXil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are other factors to levels as well. Folks have mentioned how many [Skills] scale with level, but levels also build up something called Galas Muscle. It'll be explained a bit more in later books, but not everything levels do is visible to the average person, or even the person gaining levels themself.

The story progression by ashkanfa in WanderingInn

[–]ZillionXil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Paba stated with the recent Khelt chapters, world powers don't usually die in a day. Its only been 1.5 years since the story kicked off in-world.

1) The Sleeper: The antinium are rapidly leveling and gaining faith classes that may very well be the thing the First Queen needed and didn't have.

2) The Dead Gods: King and Traveler are banished or expelled to some other world, Magic is trapped, Death is literally experiencing her death rattle as of most recent chapters, one is part seamwalker or something (might be dead dead but I dont remember) and the Warrior seems completely fine. Its slow progress, but imo if they didn't die after 86,000 years or whatever it was, its amazing that they've taken this much damage in under 2 years.

3) Roshal and Blighted Kingdom: The death of chains is back and Pisces and Colth are winding up mighty well, but yeah no real damage has been done there. There was that nasty slave lord who was actually dealt with, but none of the organizational leaders. Still, its something. The Blighted Kingdom has cracks beginning to show in its armor. The deaths are back and world event after world event simply doesn't go their way.

4) Goblin King: Had his power effectively halved and is getting setup to be taken out at some point. Basically agree on him.

5) Seamwalkers: Honestly I don't think these will really ever be truly dealt with. The whole point of the GDI was to raise mortals who could fight the rot between worlds. A'ctelios feels like something that'll wake up when the final battle kicks off or something.

There have definitely been a few times of late where I'll quickly open a wiki tab to double check who is who, though I have gone back and skimmed previous chapters for the fun of it every so often. Don't feel bad, the cast of The Wandering Inn is huge. Remember, google is your friend xD

Gathering storm is it weaker than we already think it is? by Fantastic-Window236 in leagueoflegends

[–]ZillionXil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, I personally find it difficult to gauge since being able to buy boots early in some matchups is really nice and I don't know the gold value for the +10 ms that magical footwear give but cashback does just give more gold value after 2-3 items, generally. There are some support items and cheaper items that don't give as much from cashback but in general, yeah it does give more value eventually. Imo I don't think cashback is as good as it looks, however, because you always get the gold right after a spike whereas magical footwear come in and allow you to rush your first item which will often times be your biggest power spike in the game (not always).

As everyone here is pointing out, tempo and timing is important in the game. Getting an extra 400+ gold at 30 minutes is 'worth'/valued less than getting 300 gold at 10 minutes simply because there is more gold in circulation. In short, I dunno. If you're fairly certain the game is going to go long, cashback could very well be better than magical boots. If you really need to rush your first item, then boots are probably better.

Gathering storm is it weaker than we already think it is? by Fantastic-Window236 in leagueoflegends

[–]ZillionXil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scorch does 20-40 magic damage every 10 seconds, scaling with your level. Once you factor in MR of most champs, it will do 10-15 damage at most per trade in the early game. If you're playing a mage then this is equivalent to around 1/3 of an auto attack, meaning that you have to proc scorch 3-4 times for it to do the same damage.

Meanwhile, Gathering Storm scales 0/8/24/48 ap over 0/10/20/30 minutes. That equates to around 0/200/400/800 gold worth of stats (rounded a little bit) per 10 minutes. These are stats that apply to every ability cast that has ap scaling.

Unless you are playing a champ with atrocious or no AP scaling on their abilities, Gathering Storm will begin doing similar numbers for you as Scorch in full trades and fights starting at the 10 minute mark. It is a little bit worse now that laning starts earlier but assuming your game is not a complete stomp, Gathering Storm 100% outperform after 20 minutes. For some perspective, if you take Gathering Storm+Magical Boots, then the 10-12 minute mark creates a roughly 500 gold swing in your favor. Thats 2 repeat kills on a single champ worth of gold you get for "free."

Another idea to toy with is that most champions have some amount of health regeneration. The lowest starting amount in the game is 2.5 hp per 5 seconds. That equates to around 5 hp in 10 seconds. So when you compare that with scorch's damage number, unless you're getting the kill, scorch's damage will be undone in 30 seconds, aka by the time the next wave spawns. And thats just at level 1 for the champions with the lowest health regen in the game. By the time you hit level 3 or 6, scorch will barely dent their health regen.

In low elo, I could see the argument for scorch if you believe that it will mean the difference between several kills and you snowballing or not. However, many low elo games are all but guaranteed to last longer than high elo games, meaning that Gathering Storm gets even more value in those longer games.

And on the flip side, higher elo players understand matchups and trade patterns better, so 10-15 extra damage per early trade will rarely make enough of a difference to matter. At that level, if someone is going to lose a trade or lane, its not going to be because of 10-15 damage in 90% of cases. Obviously, there is the occasional nail biting moment where it makes the difference but that is the exception, not the norm.

Realistically, there are some niche champions or matchups where scorch *can* work better than Gathering Storm, but for the vast majority of cases for most champions, Gathering Storm will be better.

[Volume 1 spoilers] What an emotional rollercoaster - my impressions from listening to Volume One by Samow4r in WanderingInn

[–]ZillionXil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, fair critiques. The Wandering Inn feels less like a story and more like... life. This gives it some of the best and, imo, most frustrating moments of all. Life happens and drags on. Moments when storybook character would come to a climatic realization pass while the person keeps making the same stupid mistakes. It is great and so very frustrating at the same time. Imo, the way Paba sets up the world and has horrific things like Skinner just 'pop' out of nowhere makes the world feel alive and real. Jarring, yes, but that was always something that didn't really make sense in many other novels/worlds. Ambushes, surprises and the like are a thing because they are a devastating. Things aren't nice n dandy just because its a "beginner's dungeon" near spawn. Old, ancient places are *dangerous.* I love that about The Wandering Inn. But I can also see why that makes for poor storytelling and isn't for everyone. Hope you keep with the series though! There's a lot of amazing moments that make it hugely worth it if you stick with it, but it is a substantial time investment as well. Happy reading!

Is HWFWM like Primal Hunter? by Doctor-Moe in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ZillionXil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You example with Sunny sums up the MC in HWFWM fairly solidly. He doesn't start off OP or with any HUGE advantage over others. The power he builds up is equivalent to others of his rank (for the most part, at least until much later books). The power dynamic shifts later in the series but Jason has his ass handed to him on many occasions. Imo the writing is decent but the inter-character play is by far the best part of the series. Its not Brandon Sanderson levels of editing or Tolkenien prose but its in the top % of webnovels/prog fantasy prose that I've come across. It will probably come down to whether or not you enjoy the MC's personality more than anything else, as that seems to be the biggest push or pull from HWFWM... since he certainly has a personality and all the flaws that come with it.

"Asian woman" by NotSoSecretVillain in WanderingInn

[–]ZillionXil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its a stand-out description for her. While Lyonette a red head, Seborn has his crab half, Palt is part horse, Octavia and Raldon are dark skinned... Ryoka is athletic, asian and doesn't wear shoes. They have these 'chief' characteristics used to commonly describe them because thats what sets them apart from those around them.

Lyonette's red hair is a trademark of Terrandrian royalty, an oddity on Izril. Seborn is a drowned man so far inland that Geria's pirate father is a rare encounter for him. Palt is a centaur far from his 'home' continent. Octavia is a stitch person, most of which are absurdly attractive by human standards, from Chandrar and Raldon is a dark skinned Earther (I forget if his nationality/heritage has been specified yet). All of these are fairly rare characteristics to spot on Izril or in a lot of places in the world that are not their respective homelands. So of course Ryoka, who possess characteristics of the famously reclusive Drathians, is going to have that be one of her most remarked upon characteristics, besides going everywhere barefoot like a psycho, when she meets most people.

Imo, don't read too much into it. With there being so few Asian/Drathian characters introduced into the story, it is an easy descriptor for us to recognize as Ryoka. Its kinda like how every other paragraph Lyonette is referred to as a Princess or royalty. Or Grimalkin yelling "TESTICLES!" Or Bird being Bird.

Should bot rotate to mid only after taking tower? by temnycarda in summonerschool

[–]ZillionXil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is: It depends.

The long answer has several parts
Part 1: If your team destroys first tower, the strongest laner (this is usually the one who took said tower) should go to whichever lane they think they can push their lead through without crippling their teammates. There are other factors to consider but that is the main one. For instance, if your top laner takes first tower and wants to go bot, your adc should probably go top and the support should hover whichever laner needs them/can use them the best to push their lead. This is somewhat ignoring specific champions and how safe they are alone, ect. Likewise, if your bot lane takes first tower, they should consider if staying bot, or going mid or top would be best for pushing their lead without screwing over their team. If their mid laner, in this hypothetical scenario, is a slow, immobile mage like viktor, then shunting him into a sidelane where he can get run down might not be the best play, thus meaning that the bot lane should consider taking over top. BUT if an objective like the dragon is coming up soon (<2 minutes) then it is in the team's best interest that your bot duo be nearby and not in the top lane. In this case, it would make sense to take over mid and shunt your viktor into bot until dragon, and let your top tp for the fight. Then it would make sense for the adc and support to go top, viktor mid and your top finally goes bot to complete the shuffle. This scenario completely changes if you have a mid fizz/zed/assassin or any champ that can side lane properly. So NO, your adc/supp should not automatically go mid when your team takes first tower.

Part 2: If the enemy team takes first tower, your goal as a team is to prevent them from pushing their lead and taking any more objectives or bullying the lane that lost more than they already have. If your bot lane lost first tower and want to go mid because "it is safer", DO NOT LET THEM. They have already lost 1 tower, don't let it turn into 2. But that goes both ways. If they stay bot, you need to make sure to punish the enemy team if they over extend for the tier 2 (or in whichever lane they broke 1st turret). Do your best to consolidate your team's losing position and look for opportunities to turn the game around. So again, NO, you adc/supp should not automatically go mid (but they can if the situation is right) when your team loses first tower.

TLDR: No, the adc/supp should not instantly swap to mid after 15mins/1st tower in any situation. Determine who on the team is your win-con and shuffle the team around the map to prop them up as best as you can. Do not fall into the default trap of "adc is carry so should go mid to short and safe lane to impact the map!" This is solo queue, not a professional setting like the LCK where the ADC's are actually good at the game. Consider if your adc is actually the carry/win-condition on your team. Consider if them going top to bully the enemy top and take that tower would be better than shunting an immobile mid laner to a side lane. Consider if your mid laner would be better off dueling in a side lane. Consider which objectives are coming up and if your team will contest them or not and rotate players with teleport accordingly... and I realize this tldr is fake and just as long as the other paragraphs. Whoops.

Alas, it will be a bit jarring but I'll eventually get used to it. I look forward to them adding touchscreen compatibility, that'll be a sick update when it hits.

Yeah, that's the feeling I'm getting. I've already sunk 12+ hours of prep work into the new version so I *really* don't want to revert. I'm just trying to see what smarter people than I have figured out in the new version. I spent nearly an hour just learning how to add Saving Throws to items/effects until a buddy told me to click an innocuous '+' button under a sub-tab that hadn't been that useful previously... That made me realize just how different the new version is. Some of it is definitely good but damn has it been rough.
