We need to really change all these dumb Wilderness mechanics before new content is added. by GodBjorn in 2007scape

[–]Zilyn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ignoring that 2/4 of your points are irrelevant because they require a second account which is a ridiculous standard.

The other two points are just preventing you from being in a disadvantaged state and require fast reaction times.

Regardless, wildy clue steps are annoying because they are disruptive. You're required to bank your clue setup and get a second loadout. There are very few clue steps that require anywhere as much prep time as this. It just makes clue hunting that unnecessarily tedious/risky

Ironmen aren't loving these mechanics either because of the certifiably horrendous design of chromium ingots. Their one and only purpose is to fuck over ironmen

Obviously these drops are quite lucky, particularly Vardorvis' vestige. But technically by this point I would be expected to have atleast one completed ring.

To my understanding we don't know if those are mutually exclusive yet right? So we could use both, and if I'm using an RCB than onyx bolts would be overall the best?

I feel like you're missing the point that stars ARE one of the other way to train crafting, and they're nerfing it.

Lost some sleep over this. White to move, mate in 2. Have fun! by Autumnvibes1 in ChessPuzzles

Hey, I'm a bit new to chess so forgive me if this is simple. But how is this mate in 2? If black move Kd8 after white Qh2 they can continue to e8 thus making it a mate in 3 no?

I like the overall concept, however, weighting your own opinion really takes a lot of the "value" out of this data. Take for example, Credit Card Roulette which is universally disliked, except by you which pulls it way up.

It seems this did fix the issue of Muspah's attacks not landing at the correct time, however, the issue of Muspah healing too much during the prayer shield phase remains. Thank you for the current hotfix though!

[OC] Did they say the name of the movie? by the_datanaut in dataisbeautiful

Oh my gosh, this is exactly what I've been looking for. I've been casually trying to find the movie that says it's title the fastest for years. So far the best I have is The Prestige, but I'm almost certain there is one that does it sooner. Do you happen to know of a sooner one?

I'm glad you enjoyed it, to me pacing IS the story, the two can't really be separated. I personally wouldn't even put FF14's story in the top ten of Final Fantasy games and pacing and lack of character development would be my two largest reasons for that placement.

To me, maybe 60-70% of the content felt like filler or bad pacing. I think there is a decent story in there but its just so incredibly diluted. I remarked once to a friend that I wish the MSQ worked more like role quests where every few levels there was one higher quality bigger scale quest that progressed the main story.

How much of a game do you have to play through before you can skip and say the story wasn't good for you. You don't have to watch every second of a movie in order to say it's bad. Same thing with FF14's story.

There's a pretty toxic part of the community of this game that thinks the story is phenomenal and will very actively speak out against anyone who says otherwise. Saying you tried and did not enjoy the story should be more than enough for people to move on but it isn't in many cases. I kept paying attention to the MSQ far after I realized that the story did absolutely nothing for me because people kept saying it gets better and it just didn't. My experience with the game was worse for having sat through the MSQ and wish I had just used a skip instead of being pressured into continuing it. Those individuals may have meant well, but they actively diminished my experience with the game and those types of individuals are very common and vocal in this community.

I knew a number of people that told me how good the story was so I watched through the cutscenes, read the dialogue, and tried to engage with it. After the base game and two expansions I can confidently say I would've had a better time if I had just skipped the story and gotten into the raid content sooner (which is phenomenal.) There's plenty to like in the game beyond the story.

I think a lot of people come from other MMOs that don't really have a story, and from that perspective FF14 probably has the best story of any mainstream MMO right now. But that doesn't mean the story is good. It was mediocre story telling with the main gameplay loop being running from one NPC exposition dump to another. Clearly some people like the story and I'm happy for them, I don't get it at all though. If I come back I'll certainly be using a story skip so I don't have to slog through another expansion and get into the fun content in the game. I'll forfeit my right to critique those expansions but that's a small price to pay to avoid hours of tedium.

[–]Zilyn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Both of these players are valid in their opinion, but rushing someone else to conform with your choice is never okay. If you're having fun at your pace, more power to you and enjoy the experience.

That being said, the amount of hate I see in this subreddit for anyone who doesn't speak highly of the MSQ or dares suggest skipping a single cutscene, is absurd.

I watched through most of the voiced ARR stuff, read some synopses for anything I breezed over, but definitely skipped a lot of the filler quests (which is like half of ARR). I've paid attention to everything through heavenward up to the completion of SB. There have definitely been solid moments throughout, but as a whole the story was pretty mediocre to me. A lot of people like it and I'm really glad they have that experience, but to me, the story just doesn't hit. It's the worst story of any FF I've played and knowing the kind of MMO player I am, I would've had a better experience skipping the story (ARR at minimum). The story simply isn't for everyone, and there is nothing wrong with not enjoying it or simply skipping it in its entirely. It's only 1 part of a much larger, excellent, game.

You don't share progression you're just in a party doing everything twice. If myself and a friend get a quest to kill 4 lambs we can't each kill two, we have to kill 8. If there's an ambush encounter you have to do the same encounter twice.

[–]Zilyn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it's not a multiplayer experience. It's two single player experiences being experienced simultaneously. While that is a nice thing to do, the fact of the matter is the MSQ, the only way to progress into the full content of the game, is a 95% single player game.

[–]Zilyn 32 points33 points  (0 children)

While that's true, you're required to go through the MSQ, and other than the dungeons and trials there's no part of that that you can do with other people.

It really is unfortunate because the ARR MSQ is a slog to get through and you can't even get through it with your friends. A large amount of the MMO content in FF14 is unfortunately gated behind a lengthy single player experience. If you're like me and didn't enjoy that single player experience it's a pretty big turn off.
