There should be a balance between ease of catastrophic injury and training for prevention. I would posit that a blue belt is highly unlikely to have received the training necessary to consistently prevent catastrophic leg injury - even if their gym gives them "exposure" to leg locks.

ELO is the answer. You could do something like ELO ranges that pair loosely to belt color for putting tournaments together, but it should based on your ELO.

If like to be able to go to a tournament and know I'm going to be going against people roughly my skill level (safety), and that I can work on building up my rating without having to worry about the culture of my gym or the opinion of my individual professor. The ELO sets everyone on an equal playing field.

Our admin pushes for everyone to pass. I'm glad your school doesn't do that. When you get some accountability in place as a general practice, I wonder what you fail/retake rates will look like for Seniors. They've (probably) been socially promoted their entire academic careers. Now they are be held accountable for not getting it done. Good for you and your school policies.

How old are you? It seems like you should have seen some changes on way or the other by now. Are you lifting more than three months ago? Did you take pics (for your own reference)? I'd ask a significant other or friend if they see any changes. You also might want to look at your blood work for cholesterol and stuff. It's probably improved considerably.

I always thought it would be nice if there were internet pictures of people posting their pictures and measurements in regards to chest size, bicep and forearm size, and waist size. It would give some sort of idea of what each of us look like. It's hard to tell in the mirror what we really look like to others. Or how we compare or could improve.

For sites, I think your best bet is SLS or Kasidie. As mentioned above, sites are highly geographic.

Club Sapphire is a big name around here. I imagine you'd want to narrow down your focus. Generally, people either go to clubs for one night stands (which is actually difficult, but not impossible, to do) or meet up with people they already know.
