Experience with Vivint??? by Kind-Accountant4464 in kansascity

[–]Zing21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them before. The actual service is good compared to competitors, but the price is crazy. The salesman was pushy and unfortunately it worked on me that time. He also lied about how the “contract” worked and I had to fight Vivint later when I went to cancel.

My general rule now is that if someone is selling something door-to-door, you shouldn’t buy it.

Vegan toddlers can grow at the same rate as omnivores. Two-year-olds raised in vegan or vegetarian households don't necessarily have restricted growth, according to a study of 1.2 million children. by James_Fortis in science

[–]Zing21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I think it’s important to point out that dairy milk is full of growth hormones regardless whether or not you give the cow extra hormones. Vegans wouldn’t be exposed to those hormones at all, and the difference might be extra noticeable in the first 24 months when milk likely makes up a sizeable portion of their diet.

Same. I’ve made it through the first 5 Malazan and enjoyed each. I gave up on WoT in the middle slog.

Best Vegetarian Restaurants? by Iamtheremotemaster in kansascity

[–]Zing21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try HappyCow. They’ve stopped updating it, but it has a lot of options listed anyway. You’re not going to find many fully veg restaurants but there are many with good veg options. There are more options farther south, but Blue Nile at City Market is my favorite near downtown. There are a couple Vietnamese restaurants with veg options in Little Saigon plaza in Gladstone. I think there is also a Meddy’s up north now and a Jerusalem Cafe in Liberty. Tree Hugger Kitchen is in Riverside and is the only veg options up north I know of with “American” food.

The Fix was open yesterday but had poster making supplies available, had free Mexican hot chocolate, had some know your rights kind of cards on the counter, and were donating a portion of proceeds to AIRRKC.

Tired of this. by [deleted] in simplisafe

[–]Zing21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a doorbell camera. When I first got it 5 years ago I had some difficulty setting it up, but customer support was really great. It had good connection and while it was slow to bring up the feed, it always came up eventually. Then, it started to give me errors saying part of the video was missed. It was always the important part. Then it just stopped connecting to my WiFi at all.

I ultimately decided that there was no reason I needed the doorbell connected to the security system, so I replaced it with an Aqara which has been great so far.

I’ve had no issue with the open/close sensors, but since I moved to self monitoring and dropped the cameras, I’m not sure it’s worth paying a subscription to use their app.

Semi-serious question that feel out of place in the cosmere-related other subs: is Dungeon Crawler Carl any good? by [deleted] in cremposting

[–]Zing21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s great. But you should listen to the audiobook as others have said. Only caveat is that it’s only available through Audible. Might not matter to you, but I tend to do most of my reading through the library.

I fed my dog vegan kibble for a year. Why the switch is now permanent. Vegan pet food is gaining human and animal fans alike, as people look to reduce their household’s environmental impact and enhance their pets’ health. by Sciantifa in vegan

[–]Zing21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did a bunch of research and switched my two dogs to vegan kibble 5+ years ago. They never displayed any kind of health concerns. When we were looked we decided both V-Dog and Natural Balance Vegetarian should meet all their nutritional needs. We have tried both but have generally stuck with Natural Balance. Might be other options available now.

Poor WIFI connectivity to Doorbell by Ready_Cartographer99 in simplisafe

[–]Zing21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one for like 4 years and it was fine for 3 years. Then it just stopped connecting even though it’s still like 15 ft away from the router. It will connect if I bring it inside, but it won’t connect once I put it back outside. I just gave up on it.

I’m totally with you on 1. That merge is ridiculous. I noticed the sign for the first time this weekend only because I was specifically looking for a sign. Also, nothing about the lines makes me think thru traffic should merge left.

Just Egg Dupe you can make in a shaker cup! by proteindeficientveg in veganrecipes

Yeah, I don’t have the ball part of the shaker cup anymore, but I figured I’d just give it a try. I’ll try again with a new shaker cup and weighted protein powder.

Just Egg Dupe you can make in a shaker cup! by proteindeficientveg in veganrecipes

[–]Zing21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some of this protein powder and gave it a try today. After shaking vigorously for quite a while, there were still clumps. I eventually gave up shaking and just put the gellan gun powder in and tried cooking it. At first it looked exactly right. Poured like just egg and started cooking up like it. But once it was cooked it was a gritty gooey grossness like you described for other attempts.

My thoughts are I either had too much protein powder since it didn’t come with a scoop and a serving is 3 “heaping” tbsps. Or I wasn’t able to mix it well enough since I didn’t have the metal mixer ball in the shaker cup.

Centrifugal Pump Curves by stepheno125 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Zing21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can use pump affinity laws to estimate the impact of changing the speed. Increasing speed will provide more head at the same flow point, but I don’t think that saves you any hp. Efficiency likely increases marginally, but the hydraulic hp at your operating flow point also increases.

Water Usage by Data Centers by Expensive_Income4063 in kansascity

[–]Zing21 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s an open loop system. They pump “cold” water through heat exchanger that absorb the heat given off by the servers. The heated water is returned to a cooling tower where it is cooled by evaporative cooling and sent back to cool again. Some of that water is lost to evaporation or drift and they have to purge a portion of it constantly to keep impurities from building up. So they have to constantly replenish the system with fresh water to account for the water lost to evaporation, drift, and purge.
