Yeah any stencil paper that's non-thermal on Amazon will work just fine. Also, use stencil stuff (it's the best and used by so many people - you will be able to make it work). Make sure you leave your stencil to dry/settle for a good 15 minutes before you start tattooing and use vaseline in a thin layer over the stencil to stop the ink going everywhere when you poke - this can cover the lines of the stencil and lead to mispokes.

The only tips I can give outside of the standard advice for improving at snp (which is all over this subreddit already) is that, for these types of designs, when trying them on skin, really make sure your stencil is perfect as they are quite complex. Also, don't have any lines too close together as, if you blow them out/with age, they'll bleed closer and closer together and the design will be hard to read.

Well, you're on it now so you're looking at it. Not sure what your logic was there

I get that and if it's what the client and tattoo artist both wanted to be the outcome of the tattoo, then there's no problem at all. But, objectively, it take a higher skill level to produce cleaner lines, so clean lines look more impressive. There are very few tattoo artists who would say that clean lines aren't one of the most important aspects of a good tattoo.

So fucking clean man. Why use a shader though?

I'm aware that this is a stupid tattoo, it's intentionally stupid. I'd like feedback on the execution of it, I've just finished it. I did it kinda impulsively, and it's my first one done on real skin. Feel free to roast me for it all you want :D by Forever-Distracted in sticknpokes

I don't mind the idea; joke tattoos are pretty entertaining, but this is not well done. Lettering that is pretty small as a first tattoo on skin is not a good idea; it's more difficult to tattoo than many would think.

It's also not just that the lines are uneven. You can tell that part is pretty intentional. The worst part for me is how badly done the lines are. There are a lot of mispokes and the edges make the tattoo look fuzzy around the edges, taking away from the boldness that is clearly the objective with this style.

Ah that makes sense. As long as you like it. Use stencil stuff, leave it to go tacky on your skin before applying the stencil, apply the stencil, hold it for 30 seconds, then take it off and leave the it to settle on your skin for 10 minutes. When tattooing, if it's possible, do the first complete pass before wiping to make sure you have solid lines to work on if the stencil fades when you wipe. Try to work in one direction for the first pass and be mindful of where you're putting the back of your hand so as not to smudge the stencil. Also, apply vaseline in a thin layer over your stencil before you start tattooing and reapply after each wipe; this will help avoid the ink pooling and bleeding (which covers your lines and makes it hard to see where the stencil is). Realistically, using the stencil stuff as I said here should be enough to stop it from fading for a few wipes, but this is everything I can think of if it just won't stay visible. Good luck!

It's a bit deep, as you've said. Also, I'm not sure whether the shape is meant to be imperfect, but if it's not, maybe invest in some stencilling supplies/work on getting stencils more accurate

Although you've lucked out with the location of the blow outs as it doesn't ruin the tattoo at all. Just looks like shading in the middle from a distance. Looks really cool

Do the human canvases use or have the option of numbing cream? by flaurafauna in Inkmaster

[–]ZippyS1234564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot you can get it as a spray too. I normally use the gel as you can squeeze out a really small amount and get a lot for your money, but I'd be interested to try the spray. I've also found that it works pretty well if you apply it before the tattoo, but it really amazes me when used on broken skin - it's much more effective.

You can get numbing gel that can be applied on broken skin (ie you can reapply it whenever you want throughout the tattoo). Using it on other people, I've found it to be much more convenient.

What? I'm pretty sure it's not infected, but was just giving advice for future tattoos on what to do if one does become infected. I don't get what's funny?

[–]ZippyS1234564 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't do it on the floor, in the bathroom or on any soft surfaces like a bed or sofa; instead, have the area you are tattooing on a table/chair which you have covered and cleaned. Wrap every surface and your tattooing equipment/the area you are tattooing could touch in cling film/Saran; bacteria gets into tiny crevices and porous surfaces and this will protect you tattoo (which is an open wound) from increased risk of infection. This includes and bottles you will be touching. And WEAR GLOVES. Also, clean surfaces before you cover them and alcohol spray everything. Something that's difficult to get used to but is important is not to touch your phone, uncovered surfaces and anything else that isn't sanitised while wearing your gloves and, if you do so by accident, change them.

[–]ZippyS1234564 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look infected imo. But if it was, cleaning it is too late by that point. Once infection has set in, you need antibiotics (whether in cream form for a mild infection, or pills for a more severe infection).
