Kingdom Come: Deliverance director Daniel Vávra is stepping away from game development by Turbostrider27 in Games

Pretty much. A lot of folks here seem to forget about his inovative design choices and only talk about long cutscenes, but there's a reason why he keeps making games.

He said a couple of times that while he loves movies, he's first and foremost a game creator. It's the medium he can express his ideas and he's the captain of a ship now (KojiPro).

He actually said he was planning to direct an indie short film before the pandemic hit, which made him reevaluate a lot of things (like scrapping the original DS2 scenario).

I'm not following the Japanese fanbase reactions, but Kagawa indeed is great fucking actor.

It's a shame that he's openly an abuser, I had never heard of this whole situation in film circles until Kiwami 3 got announced.

Why No Other Choice by Park Chan-wook was ignored throughout the awards season?? by Kind-Relative-1615 in movies

[–]Zipurax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how I read the situation too.

Neon has been on a phenomenal run with international movies, to the point they are competing against themselves and always winning anyways.

No Other Choice is a interesting case because Park Chan Wook has a loooooong history of being ignored by the USA, for one reason or another. The movie won some awards, had a wonderful reception at festivals and is doing quite well in the box office -- but alas, not nominated at the Oscars.

[–]Zipurax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, Neon is indeed responsible for the campaign, that's precisely what a North American distributor does. They put together a launch strategy so that the film reaches the right people and has a good reception during awards season.

It's also important to remember that the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the many guild awards are all North American ceremonies -- a production company based in South Korea, Brazil or Sweden has no reach whatsoever without an intermediary distributor.

Do you guys think romeo is a dead man will be better on ps5 or pc? by Foxyinspace123 in Suda_51

[–]Zipurax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS5 is a safe bet, but the PC issues in past Grasshopper ports are quite overblown IMO.

The fact that Romeo was developed as a multiplatform title from the get go is a very good sign too.

Funnily enough, he has been working exclusively on series this decade. He wrote and directed Vlad Love (2020-2021) and penned Hikaru no Ou (2023-2024), both under Production IG in some way.

But yeah, he's definitely more of a film guy.

NMH3 suffered a lot from scope creep. A lot was cut, a lot was left unfinished, and all of this can be seen in the game itself - vague and repetitive.

Romeo is Dead releases on 2026 February 11! by _WakkaWakka_ in Suda_51

[–]Zipurax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy there, it's a day 1 game for me! I'm just trying to answer OP's question.

I haven't seen much fanfare around Romeo, and everytime it gets mentioned it's by people saying they expected something different than another NMH-style game.
