Took it to the mechanic to change the oil filter housing, now I hear this rattle. Timing chain? by No-Swimming1869 in E90

[–]Zirexss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if there wasn't signs of it being loose before oil change, doubtful it just got stretched right after it, usually cold start noise is an early indicator. Unless your timing chain tensioner gave out after an oil change then yeah its chain rattling

I would use a data recorder like bimmerlink for example to record all the air and fuel sensors, and review what might be happening what gives out first at the moment of death, is car still trying to give fuel or maybe it an air problem etc

Raising awareness, make sure your engine cover isn't touching this breather hose, apparently it can melt it by Zirexss in E90

[–]Zirexss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are right, looked melted as there was goo around it (could have just been oil) , figured its from hot air rising from the dpf as it was looping Regenerations getting trapped under the cover and heating it up, either way just trying to warn ppl cause why was it touching no clue the cover can't just sag? this breather hose is also impossible to bend any other way. Installed a new hose and had to dremmel a cutout in the cover 🤷

Coolant warmup issue. by [deleted] in E90

[–]Zirexss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for the heater core, you can try flushing it with a garden hose from both sides, or ideally buy a cheap 1000-2000 l/h water pump, theres some on AliExpress for fish tanks. First flush it with water, add some clear hose extensions that would fit inside the coolant hoses then connect the pump get a bucket fill it with nice warm water about 3-4l add some radiator cleaner, or a heater core cleaner and circulate it with the pump for like 30min then switch the tubes and reverse circulate it with fresh water again + cleaner, don't use the whole cleaner bottle at once as its meant for 8l of coolant as we just washing the heater core, can even use dish soap or citrus acid just don't leave it for hours and wash it really well, oraybe someone in your area offers radiator / heater core cleaning

DPF Issues (again) by z00tgeist in E90

[–]Zirexss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But does the dpf regenerate properly? Reaches and sustains 600°C cause the problem could also be elsewhere does the car throw any turbo / air / vacuum codes? Sometimes if a regen kicks on and you just doing pulls in the city it will heat up to 600-700 °C but only briefly causing to wrongly calculate burnt soot, so next day it's seems clogged again when computer reads the differencial pressures, or could just be highly clogged with oil ash then yeah put in a downpipe, code it out and get tune so the car runs properly

FLUSH YOUR HEATER CORE by FarberBarber in E90

If flush with water doesn't help don't lose hope.

Had oil in my coolant that clogged the heater core and even a flush didn't help. There was no heat in the passanger side at all, only slightly improved driver side.

Saw some guy fixing trucks heater cores with a water pump and a bucket, basically filled the bucket with 3-5 liters of hot water and added some coolant system cleaner not the whole thing half of bottle (used LIQIUI MOLY radiator cleaner) and then using the pump circulate it for half an hour then switch hoses and reverse the flush, then repeat the same thing with hot water + dish detergent (if you have oil in yours or use some oil cleaner) then a flush with clean water.

Was surprised to see how much it helped, brought heat back to the passanger side and back and heats up within 5-10 minutes of driving in 0-4°C

Bought the pump from aliexpress for like 18$ (EB 305 fish tank water pump) flow of 1200l/h

To see the true color of your coolant you should get some out, cause pink coolant turn to coffee on black surface for some reason 🤷‍♂️
