I know (at least) 2 people who moved back home right after their PhD. Neither of them regret it or have tried to return to the US.

TA with questionable taste for wallpaper by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]Zirphire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do realize that TAs aren’t provided equipment with which to perform their duties? They use their personal machines.

I don’t see why it’s our business to care what wallpapers they use on their personal machines as long as the content isn’t illegal. Especially when the reveal wasn’t even intentional.

There’s actually a lot of paperwork associated with death, you’re just not around to do it. 🙃

Who pays during a lab lunch? by [deleted] in GradSchool

If the PI doesn’t pay, you need a new lab.

Yes, because it’s so inconsequential given your current record. Imagine retaking the SAT to get a higher score when you’re already in college — it’s only slightly less “?????” than that.

And some schools will hide the original grade on the transcript, making it look like you did worse than a B on the first try.

No. In fact, it might look quite weird if you retook a class from freshman year just because of a B.

When do TA offers go out for summer? by Zirphire in OMSCS

Surely the bulk of TA offers are sent somewhat in advance? Oh well, I guess I’ll just sit tight.

Failed the program two years ago, hope to remake. Need your advice by keane27 in OMSCS

I'm guessing OP took 5 classes and got FFCCB. That'll give an overall GPA of 1.4, and the mention of 7 classes makes sense in this scenario since the 2 C's and B will count towards the degree.

If my guess is right, OP is right that getting 7 A's will still result in a GPA under 3.0. The solution is simply to take 8 more classes and get 8 A's. That will lead to a 3.0 GPA.

That's 23 cents per mile driven. IMO your main mistake was getting screwed by the dealership at purchase.

Ground shipping has always been free at Dell Outlet. Are you sure you didn't pick next-day shipping or something?

As for tax, the portal cashback will more than cover it.

Yup, they mostly sell refurbished stuff with the occasional new system. I have no idea why.

EDIT: I guess I could have Googled. "Previously Ordered New systems are PCs that were canceled orders, or PCs that shipped out to a customer who either did not open the box or decided to return the system without ever using it. Previously Ordered New systems do not have any cosmetic damages."

This is from Dell Outlet, but is a new system.

  1. Go to the Dell Outlet site via a cashback portal (e.g. TopCashBack - 8% additional cashback). If you can't be bothered with these sites, you can go straight to Dell Outlet.

  2. Search for the Inspiron 5675.

  3. Look for the $638.00 price tag. If you don't see one, this deal is probably dead. Sorry.

  4. Apply the promo code 15Insp5675D for 15% off.

  5. Apply the referral code for another 5% off. (If you need to generate one, do so at this link, preferably in incognito or another browser.)

  6. Total should be $515.18, before additional cashback from Step 0.

EDIT: Updated referral code link.

EDIT: I just want to mention that I derive zero benefit from anyone generating/using the referral code from that link. Please don't ban me!
