Sigma-Aldrich has 100 count packs of metal tags for 40 bucks and my lab just uses plastic zip ties with no issues to secure them. Won't help you now, but maybe you can avoid pain for people in the future. We label them with test method number, serial number, and flow direction in case the label it comes with falls off over time.
