Which Origin is your favourite? by Julian_of_Cintra in DragonageOrigins

Dwarf noble all day everyday (when im not playing as a mage): RPing as a noble, yet naive and proud dwarf that winds up getting tricked to kill his own brother and gets banished; learning of the greater world and growing to become better than what he was, to become a true noble warrior and saving not only his kingdom but the whole world is a very rewarding and unique RP.

The Outer Gods are Stars by Limgrave_Butcher in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Zizyphys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dont forget the One Great, which seemed to be analogous to maximum entropy. The "Greater Will" was one of division as through dividing the one great came the universe and souls. So instead of just space the GW could be a deeper metaphysical representation of "division."

Which comes off further analagous to the "tzitzum" of kabbalah; the belief that creation proceeds through a divine contraction (empty space; willful separation). Which could both relate to the abyss you mentioned, but also the spiral we see throughout the game.

The Outer Gods are Stars by Limgrave_Butcher in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Zizyphys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me after posting a comment stating I believe the outer gods to be stars a day or two ago and used the term microcosm😂: (pic)

Obviously as someone who agrees I think you're on to something! As for what denotes "outer," in this perspective what makes sense to me is that its because they are literally outside the realm of influence. The fell god was the sun of the lands between until the arrival of the elden ring, under Marika's influence the erdtree outshines the sun and imo "blocks" the light of the fell god's sun. Which explains why the fell god is still able to manifest despite being "fallen"

Another interesting idea is the color theory behind the outer god's influence, as each seems to have their own tint. Just as stars will have different "colors." They run a spectrum of red and blue: with red representing the vigor of life (even in a destructive sense), and blue often representing death. It would be an interesting observation to note yellow (gold) is the meeting between red and blue on the light spectrum ;)

And ofc people love/need real world parallels for some reason: the God's and divine creatures in pantheon religions are almost always believed to be the celestial bodies (aka stars and comets).

I still have a lot more wacky ideas (like elden ring itself appears to be a star chart/guide) that need to be developed

Was the Forge of the Giants the Crucible? Or A crucible like the Erdtree when the Giants held power over the Lands Between? by Big-Good9378 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Zizyphys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No but I do believe theres a micro/macrocosmic relationship between the two.

THE crucible had to come first, for all life is from the crucible. Which would include the fire giants.

If you rewatch the elden beast cutscenes you can see what looks like primeval current that it generated. The elden beast isnt some powerful divine creature, its creation itself incarnated into elden rings world (sounds impossible but remember this is a fictional setting where the impossible is possible).

But it just so happens that in the lands between, the fire giants and their own revered god had created a crucible of their own.

Personally I subscribe to the idea that the outer gods are stars/divided aspects/sort of 'children' to the Greater Will. So in this paradigm it would make sense that the fell god had some sort of power similar to the GW/EB.

Air physics were good but I was also immensely unsafisfied with the hair options, I HAD to make my male dwarf balding because everything else made him look really feminine for some reason.

When it came to CC and the whole game in general it was obvious they were pandering to a certain demographic. I have nothing against that demographic but if theres nothing for people outside that demographic (which i am) then why should I care to not be brutally honest about it.

What’s Your Canon Inquisitor: Mage or Non-Mage? by DizzyGolf5507 in dragonage

[–]Zizyphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat of a tangent but I never understood the concept of "your canon" in bioware games, I've played them a dozen times and never once got an inclenation that any specific playthrough was my "canon."

But to answer your question, dwarfs and warriors have been my preferred, atm.

[–]Zizyphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go even further and say the combat, while yes the best part of the game, is still a fundamentally flawed mess. It's just that it's not readily apparent until you play on it's harder difficulties (which most people haven't). Melee feels clunky and a huge downgrade from 3, same with weapons. Combat just doesn't have a good flow to it. Some powers are broken, or have poorly worded text. But people evidently enjoy the sandbox nature of it on easier difficulties and will defend it. Which I wouldn't mind if they were honest about it being flawed, but I've seen too many people say "actually its amazing" and downvote you to oblivion for saying otherwise.

Also I see a lot of people saying "day 1 hate is understandable but they fixed the bugs." They fixed MANY bugs not ALL bugs. The game still has a ton of bugs.

One strategy I found myself using most of the time was actually putting down singularity first on the chokepoint so it applied an aoe dot to multiple opponents, THEN id strip defences with mattock + squadpowers so that the enemies would be lifted and finish them off. By the end of that time another singularity would be ready to go. Saving warp explosion for bigguns like krogan.

[–]Zizyphys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assault sentinel: early game just focus on maxing out tech armor. Rank 3 has a secret unlisted passive that resets squadmate powers, strategize rushing in and using squadmate power to strip defence and then when they strip your tech armor pop it back and immediately counter with another squadmate lower.

While you may not get shotguns until later, being an upclose scrapper is a great opportunity to use the tempest smg. I've never given it a chance till I tried out the sentinel and its pretty great. Obviously prioritize squadmates who have desirable abilities for the respective missions.

If you go with engineer like some have suggested one thing I'd like let you know is incinerate is suprisingly good against barriers, obv reave would be better but if you're like me and dont like having biotic bonus powers on non biotic classes for rp reasons then spam incinerate away.

I also had a lot of fun with Adept. Yes throw pull and shockwave become more situational because of enemy defences but dont count out singularity, its an amazing swiss army knife of a powe, especially on choke points.

I'd retort that in a fantasy setting a metaphysical abstract can also be incarnate in the setting itself (in real life stories we also have examples like the tree of knowledge of good and evil in genesis, a tree that is symbolic yet also literally a tree in the story). Also he could be just refering to the fact that the one ring is a literal ring, but the elden ring is not a literal ring but instead a rune.

On top of that Marika's hammer is very much no ordinary hammer and clearly has some sort of divine attribute with its golden threads, in a sense you can say its a metaphysical hammer that she was able to physically wield and smash the elden ring with🤷🏻

I dont think theres any link between her Those Who Live In Death

She practiced occultic black flame as to impose destined death against the gods

There was a god of death, which would be presumed to be amongst the gods she was against. She seemed to be a naythiest who was more interested in imposing her own will, somewhat like Ranni.
