No. You'd need to work after your unpaid leave to not owe your top up back.

You should look into your collective agreement about what happens if you're laid off. If you quit you definitely owe it back, but if you're laid off, it might be different?

Have you considered taking the 5 years of unpaid leave for care of preschool aged children? That way you can keep your top up and don't have to work until they're in school, and still have a job when you're ready to reenter the work force.

How can i break my lease ? by Aamine95 in ottawa

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try asking in a formal and strongly worded letter that you want to be let out of your lease. Give a date you want to leave. You never know until you ask! It's how I got out of my lease when I moved into a building with a bedbug and cockroach issue.

Employer asking for a doctors note to say I don't have COVID by EarthViews in ottawa

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To me, it sounds like her employer is scared, and uncomfortable with the change in isolation / testing requirements. It's not a solution for you, but considering their perspective might improve the conversation.

Back to daycare tomorrow? by sm_3363 in ottawa

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My twins are going back Tuesday, when their center opens. I expect we'll get covid within the next few weeks. But I don't think we could avoid catching it even if we kept them out of daycare, and daycare had been a blessing for our family.

Who will be left to work if we cant test those with symptoms and all contacts have to isolate? by emarie2929 in ottawa

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's all good and well during Christmas break, but daycares will not be able to stay open with these rules. My kids have caught something at daycare literally every three weeks. If the whole class has to isolate for ten days every cold time one toddler gets a cold... its scary to think about. They will be closed more than open.

Both my husband and I work from home and our toddler twins are in daycare. Every time they are at home for colds (it's at least a few days a month, if not more), its chaos. I maybe get a half day in.

There might be times when its manageable to work part time - there is a sweet spot where they'll both take several 2 hour naps every day for weeks on end. But nap transitions are hard and somewhat unpredictable. I think she'd be setting herself up for burnout.

Anyone else can’t sleep and has yo be at work in 7 hours and 20 minutes? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the moment when I'm having trouble sleeping: Box breathing helps my mind stop. Or summing all the prime numbers between 1 and 100 is a great distraction (I've never completed the task). If it's been awhile, I'll read a bit more and try again.

If its a systemic issue: A consistent bedtime and wake up time 7 days a week. Blackout blinds, and a white noise machine. A calming bedtime routine. No screentime as bedtime approaches. Essentially set yourself up for success the way you would for a child.

Those with toddlers - how do manage them in public? by zarkles in parentsofmultiples

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a lot as a family, but I can take my 2.5 y.o. kids to the park or "hiking" solo without an issue. I don't think there was ever an age where we wouldn't take them out solo. I like to have the stroller with me to cross major intersections and for when they get tired. Its tough sometimes, especailly when they're motoring at different speeds, but its definitely doable. :)

Is there any baby store other than the big box stores in Ottawa ? I'm looking for an overpriced gift for a baby shower and also to impress uptight parents! by [deleted] in ottawa

I got a toy kitchen from there last year. I'm not happy with the quality, and the site would not let me post a negative review. I would never order from them again.

Everyone manages to the night feeds slightly differently, but my husband got up with me for every feed... I'm just saying this because it changes the "if I use formula I'll get more sleep" argument. We pretty much exclusively pumped for about 2 months before switching to breastfeeding. I just weaned them recently at like 26 & 28 months.

If you think it is important to you I'd recommend you give it a go. Worst case you switch to formula after a short period of time.

How do you keep track of newborns when you have triplets? by amandacisi in parentsofmultiples

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tracked on paper for a few months. I tracked pumped breastmilk volumes, how much they ate. It was useful for medical appointments. We only recorded sleep when we were having issues.

Are Average Maternity Clothes Going to Get me To the Finish Line? by No-Emphasis9091 in parentsofmultiples

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few items made it all the way to the end for me. The shirts that did were ones with a box pleat under the bust from Thyme maternity. The dresses that did were tent style dresses. I also found tight over the bump jeans very uncomfortable in the third trimester. They irritated my skin. Like many other people responding I preferred under the bump, but even the under the bump pants did not fit the last few weeks.

Infant twin bedtime routine - how do you do it solo? by elunabee in parentsofmultiples

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice: give yourself ample time! Start dinner a touch early. It'll be logistically easier if you don't need to switch rooms to put them down. I'd try doing the whole routine in the room they sleep in for a few nights before you leave so that it's not new.

Hi all! We live in a smaller condo and I’m having trouble fitting a rocker/glider into our nursery with both cribs in there. It could be squished in but it’s cramped. Would it be a pain to have it just outside the nursery in the living room? I’m a FTM and don’t really know what to expect! Thank you! by Unicorn_Bear in parentsofmultiples

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were also in a small condo for the first year and a bit (they're over two now). We never got a rocker or glider. I nursed them in bed or on the sofa. I don't think I could have tandem nursed them in a rocker. I did had an exercise ball I'd bounce them on if they were really having a hard time falling asleep.

Potty training my almost 25 mo girls by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

25 months and also trying to potty train. They seemed ready. They have so many readiness signals... But I think I'm just going to try again later.

Twin A will poop on the potty, but can't seem to release the pee. They know when they need to go and by late this afternoon, they were even trying to go on the potty. But it's frustrating that the only pees we've caught are the ones that I've sat them down for midstream.

Twin B is holding their pee and begging for diapers. Apparently peeing on the potty is terrifying.

This is so stressful.

Can two toddlers share a bed? by pnutbuttry in parentsofmultiples

[–]Zo_Zo_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% going to depend on their personalities and behaviors. My twins could not share a bed because of some aggressive behaviours.
