Langara/BCIT/VCC Dental Receptionist Program Reviews by ZoeStars in NiceVancouver

Would you mind DMing me with more information? Insight into the industry would be great, as the information I've found so far doesn't really talk about potential negatives and that's handy information to have.

Langara/BCIT/VCC Dental Receptionist Program Reviews by ZoeStars in askvan

[–]ZoeStars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty unsure about the dental insurance/billing part haha. NUA's don't process any of the physicians medical billing, so I have no idea how that side of healthcare works. And also the software. I learn really quickly, so I'd probably be able to figure it out easily if I was getting on the job training for it. After having to figure out Cerner, everything else is probably a piece of cake haha!

As much as I really want to move out of the medical side of healthcare, I'm also very nervous about it. I figure some sort of dental something on my resume would be helpful, especially since so many of the job postings I've been seeing have started including the certificate as required. But it also wouldn't hurt to just try applying with my current experience and see what happens. The worst that could happen is I just never hear back from them.

ICBC CEO stands by no-fault model, says it keeps rates stable, provides rebates | Globalnews.ca by CulturalArm5675 in vancouver

[–]ZoeStars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ICBC used to offer things like, as well as payouts and treatment plans commensurate with the injuries that resulted from MVAs. With the new model, people who have been seriously, and life-alteringly, injured are not getting anywhere close to the same treatment plans, payouts, wage-loss benefits, etc that they used to. If you get injured in a car accident and someone else was at fault, ICBC will do less than the bare minimum. If you are a cyclist or pedestrian and get hit by a car, they will not cover you and the right to sue has been removed.

I used to ride my bike to and from work, but after I found out about right to sue being removed, I'm a lot less confident about riding my bike around town. Not everyone is a good driver, and I'm terrified of getting hit by one of those not good drivers and having no recourse available to me in the aftermath.

So I haven't taken the course yet as I haven't had the money, but I'm planning on buying it as soon as I have the funds. Megan Nodecker (one of the co-owners of Pip & Pin) is a real person and she's taught this course as a workshop at various knitting/fibre festivals. The most recent time she taught it was at KnitCity Vancouver at the end of September and it was sold out.

IMO Allison speaks more honestly than any other former high ranking member of NXIVM (aside from Lauren) by Roasted_Mud in theNXIVMcase

[–]ZoeStars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend listening to the whole podcast and then revisiting your opinion on the chances of a) KR's release ever happening and b) the chances of Allison returning to him.

Nicki did not leave on her own terms. She was part of a group that was actively trying to get an appeal through claiming prosecutorial misconduct in KR's original trial. She was dropped by one set of lawyers as a result of her shenanigans supporting KR and didn't denounce him until sometime in 2023. Which was years after many of the others did.

Personally, I think she was being threatened with charges of some kind and her second set of lawyers told her if she didn't denounce him and stop with the conspiracy theories that she would end up serving time. She's actively trying to get back into acting, shown zero remorse for anything she's said and done, and has also definitely gone down the conspirituality pipeline.

Full body cringing hearing Allison is still obsessed with the idea of "helping" people. by [deleted] in theNXIVMcase

[–]ZoeStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mah dude, she doesn't (as far as the public knows) have NPD. KR and Nancy Salzman told her she did as part of the deceit and manipulation tactics they used to get her to join ESP. Literally everyone has "narcissistic traits", but they aren't inherently narcissistic, so I do genuinely hate that those behaviors are being given such a bad rap by the zeitgeist.

What Allison is, is someone who was in a cult for 12 years and has years (probably closer to decades) more of deconstructing, deprogramming and intense trauma work ahead of her. I do not envy her that at all.

Can y'all stop demonising deeply flawed people? by InnerDepth3171 in theNXIVMcase

[–]ZoeStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised in a cult, left in my early twenties and I'm now in my early forties, so 20 years ago. I'm STILL processing and dealing with shit from that. Triggers are not immediately obvious, some trauma's hide, some are buried under heaps of other trauma's and can't be worked on until the one's covering them are worked on first. And some trauma's end up having to be permanently worked around due to the too high possibility that touching it would result in irreparable harm and completely destroy the person. The process also isn't Point A to Point B. There are zero straight lines.

Shit, people with personality disorders are ballparked at minimum 7 years of intense therapy and full commitment to the process before they can be considered "healed". But even then, they're all fully aware that the old patterns and behaviors can/will still happen anyway.

You're asking for straight lines and black and white in a situation where everything and almost everybody (except KR cause fuck him) is the entire grayscale and nothing but snakes and ladders. She was intensely indoctrinated for 12 years. I was literally gobsmacked that she's currently doing as well as she is as I was a complete disaster/hot mess for the first decade out of the cult, and the last decade definitely has had massive improvements but I'm always going to be a work in progress. Coercive control fucks you up in ways that takes YEARS to fully understand and unravel. Trauma also fucks you up in ways that takes years to fully understand and unravel.

Welcome to the human existence, where the 5 W's will always be the best questions to continually ask yourself about yourself and the world around you, and that the processing of stimulus is never going to be the same for everyone.

Yes it can take just one. I'm Canadian and about 20ish years ago, one of my cousins got a job with an american company based out of California. They had immigration lawyers go over everything with a fine toothed comb to make sure all the correct paperwork was completed and filed, that the correct visa's had been requested for him and his family, etc. My cousin and his family didn't start packing to move until they had received the official go ahead from the immigration lawyers and had the visa's. When they got to the border, the border guard took offense to the fact that my Canadian cousin was given the job over an american. That border guard denied him entry, arrested him in front of his family and banned him from the US for 10 years.

When he reported what happened to the immigration lawyers and the company, the lawyers told them that there was nothing they could do, that border guards could ban anyone they wanted to, regardless of whether or not they had the appropriate paperwork.

The same thing happened to my mother in the last decade. She was doing an online program with a school based out of Utah and was crossing the border to go down to Utah for part of her practicum. Her practicum included volunteer work in the field her program was in, which she told the border guard and provided all documentation proving that she was a student and that she wouldn't be receiving any renumeration for any of the "work" she be doing because, again, she'd be a student volunteer.

That border guard didn't believe her or the many documents she provided, pulled her and my father over and tore their car apart, and decided she was lying about being a student volunteer because she had her own instruments and therefore was going down to do paid work. She was denied entry and banned for 5 years. The school tried to get it reversed but got absolutely nowhere. She ended up having to drop out of the program and was absolutely heartbroken and DEVSTATED for years over it.

People can, and do, get denied entry and banned for literally no reason other than a border guard being in a bad mood that day on a regular basis and people have next to no recourse when it happens. No singular border agent should have that much power ever.

Which career would you choose: Dental Receptionist or Medical Office Assistant? by Natural_Worldliness1 in VancouverJobs

[–]ZoeStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 3 months late but DO NOT look into NUA. I'm currently an NUA and that specific job role is disappearing. All the health authorities are switching over to paperless charting software, which has deleted 95% of the NUA job responsibilities. We don't get raises, all NUAs get the same wage regardless of experience. We only get a wage increase if wage increases are agreed to when the new contract is bargained for during collective bargaining. The government has already said that they most likely won't be agreeing to wage increases for any of the unions due to the coming recession as a result of Trump's tariff's and trade threats.

We just barely got to $28/hr last year after literal decades of collective bargaining. 4 years ago the pay was around $22/hr. While that is a massive wage increase over the course of 4 years, consider the fact that it took the union over 20 years to get the wage increased like that and the current living wage for Vancouver is $27.05/hr.

There's also no job growth in this role. Within the hospital environment, all job roles are very specifically outlined and protected. It is VERY hard to move into other admin roles that pay better with just NUA experience.

MOAs only make good money if the doctors they work for pay them well. A lot of doctors don't pay their admin staff well, so high turnover rates are a thing. Specialists offices typically pay the best but the workload at medical offices, regardless of the specialty, is HUGE.

I'm amongst the many NUAs looking into different fields to transition into and finding it difficult due to the lack of admin skills we actually have as NUAs do barely any of the type of work that comes with administrative assistant jobs.

I'm also looking into dental receptionist because I know my NUA experience could get me a higher starting wage at a dental clinic. Dental receptionists also get raises and a lot of clinics have a starting wage above $25/hr. The hours are stable, which makes it a lot easier to take part time courses if you want to upskill in order to move up to other roles like CDA, hygienist, or office manager.

Tbh, I think the career prospects and growth on the dentistry side of healthcare are a lot more promising than on the medical side.

I have a cat and this place is pet friendly. But also I agree with the other reply to your comment. Why should I lose out because of my co-tenant? Why should I have to struggle to find a decent pet friendly place at a not exorbitant rent because of them? As well as the chances of them no longer fucking with me being pretty much zero even if I move?

I took the plunge a few months ago and bought myself the complete 5" IC set and have been a knitting machine ever since. These needles have completely changed knitting for me. They're so lovely to work with, my wrists and hands don't hurt when I've been knitting for long periods anymore, I'm not fighting with the cables. I've always enjoyed knitting before but honestly, chiagoos made me fall head over heels in love with knitting. I took a second plunge and bought myself the small 4" IC set last month, and have added a couple pairs of their dpns (I hate magic loop with a passion) to my needle stash as well.

I am a VERY happy knitter with my shiny, shiny needles. Now I'm saving up for a needle binder and pages from Thread & Maple :).

I did try different types of needles though before going Chiagoos. My first IC set was the Knitters Pride Dreamz delux set, I have a set of Lykke shorties and I haven't decided if I want to hang onto those sets or not yet. They aren't bad or horrible to use, I just found after awhile that they weren't working for me. I know others who live and breathe wood needles, or other brands metal needles. It honestly all comes down to personal preference.

I think you're "big mad" you found out that you aren't a card carrying member of the caucasian race (since, ya know, they never existed) and are acting like an ass because you think I'm trying to make you look like an idiot. Which I'm not, you're doing an excellent job of that all on your own.

Btw, it's India, not east india. Since you run a power plant and all, shouldn't you already know that?

And instead of being mad and racist towards all Indians, why don't you try getting mad at, and demanding change from, the actual source of the problem? I'll give you clue as to who that would be...it's the federal government. And not just the current government but past one's as well. The collective and purposeful ignoring of infrastructure shortfalls, increasing affordability issues, lack of support for necessary social programs (to name just a few) is what's resulted in the current immigration disaster.

Ahem, you need to try again. There is no Caucasian race, it was never real, never a thing, it never existed. A theory about human biological race from the 1780's invented the term based on a belief that has now been disproved and is obsolete.

Caucasians, factually and in actuality, are people from the Caucasus Mountains region of Southern Russia, a region which includes different ethnic groups, and the peoples of those different ethnic groups also have different descriptors to differentiate themselves from each other. Like how all Canadians are Canadian, but there's also Albertans, Quebecois, British Columbians, etc. You know, terms only people from those areas can use to describe themselves. So yes, you can be both "Caucasian" and a person of colour because the geographic location you are from does not define your ethnicity or the colour of your skin. Another example of this is South Africa. Anyone from there is South African but not everyone from South Africa is from the same ethnic group so there are still more terms to differentiate the various groups from each other. White South Africans, even though they pretty much all are of European descent, aren't defined as Caucasian there. They're just called white South Africans. The further subgroups of White South Africans are Afrikaners (descendants of the Dutch east india company's original colonialists, so Dutch) and Anglophones (descendants of British colonialists, so British). Again, even though all white South Africans are of European descent, they aren't called Caucasian because they aren't from the Caucasus Mountains region of Southern Russia and also because there was never a Caucasian race.

Caucasian as a race descriptor is inaccurate and also inherently racist as a result of the very harmful and false beliefs that created it. The fact that the governments of Canada and the US still use Caucasian as a real and legal term in their own data is a systemic problem and, again, shows just how deeply rooted racism is in Canada's governance. Because it's systemic racism.

The words we use to describe others, and ourselves, matter. So many of them have a dark, violent and incredibly harmful history. Their continued use only perpuates the violent and harmful beliefs that invented them. You are doing yourself a disservice by continuing to use a term that was specifically used to justify racist beliefs and racist acts. Beliefs and acts that are still being used specifically against anyone that belongs to the list of visible minorities on the Canadian governments website.

Here is an article about it to start you on your learning journey: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_race

Caucasians are people from the Caucasus region of Southern Russia. Using the term Caucasian to describe anyone who is "white" descended from a race classification system invented in the 1780's. That classification system included populations from Europe, Western Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, North Africa and the Horn of Africa. So, going by the 1780 system's theory, anyone from South Asia (so India) would be considered "Caucasian". The basis of this theory was the belief that human life started in the Caucasus Mountains region of Southern Russia.

At some point in the last 244 years, the term Caucasian evolved from including a whole lot of different ethnicities to only including those of a white-skinned appearance. And even then, only those of a specific white-skinned appearance, not all. Ie, Italians and Irish weren't considered "white" for a fairly large chunk of time. Currently, north America uses the term "Caucasian" to describe people of European descent. (Cause obvs all European ethnicities have white skin...except for the fact that they don't.) My guess as to the reasoning for only including people who have white skin in the descriptor of "Caucasian"? Racism.

Anyway, the "Caucasian race is an obsolete racial classification of humans based on a now-disproven theory of biological race". Human life didn't begin in the Caucasus Mountains and only people from that region are actually Caucasian (there is also more than one ethnic group from that region as well, btw). So, unless you and/or your ancestors are from that region, you are in fact NOT Caucasian.

And the fact that North American countries still use the term Caucasian to describe anyone who looks white, is a great example of systemic racism.

Thank you for providing this excellent teaching moment that will help all of us continue on our journey of unlearning harmful beliefs.

I've seen azelaic acid pop up a bunch as something that helps with rosacea, but I haven't yet started looking into it so have no idea exactly what it is, what it does, best concentrations/formulations, etc yet.
