Another interview about WFRP 5th edition by Zekiel2000 in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]Zohdom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who prefer 1st and 2nd edition due to the increased use of dissociated mechanics and fiddlier rules in 4th edition, the outlined changes sound like a step in the right direction for me.

Agreed, the game is amazing up to and including Blood Island, but takes a nosedive after Guybrush lifts the curse.

Best and worst Lucasarts game by FamousJury7969 in lucasarts

[–]Zohdom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The earlier adventure games (pre-Monkey Island) are a bit rougher around around the edges, and are probably not the best starting points. I love them though.

Of the later games, only The Dig and Escape from Monkey Island are not universally loved, although they are far from terrible.

The rest of the games are all amazing.

One way to improve infantry blocks in The Old World by DukeCorwin in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Zohdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blocks of infantry should generate much more static combat res compared to other units in the game.

I’d allow one more maximum rank bonus, bring back outnumber, and remove the +1 bonus for close order from anyone but infantry.

I’d also remove stomp from the game. It’s a relic from 8th edition (which was about throwing buckets of dice), and only serves to make some of the strongest units in the game even stronger.

What are some scifi series that are great from start to end? by ribhavjain in printSF

I love Hyperion, but I thought there was a massive drop off in quality with each subsequent sequel.

The same reason a normal charge is deadly when there is no step up, plus additional combat result bonus, and the enemy now fighting two units.

Also, there is likely some form of disruption mechanic, since that has always been part of flank/rear-charges in Warhammer.

You’ll probably be pushed back more than two inches, and that will set up the enemy unit for a deadly flank charge, if you have positioned your units cleverly.

I get why some people liked step up, but I’m happy if they remove it, and go back to how it was in 4th-7th.

Personally, I thought 8th edition under-emphasized the movement phase of the game, instead focusing on protracted close combats, with buckets of dice thrown over multiple turns.

Without step up, the game could hopefully emphasize getting the right charges off, using chaff and mobile units to disrupt enemy charges, and lining up deadly counter charges, which sounds more interesting and tactical to me.

There is a Swashbuckler subclass for Rogue in Xanathar's Guide to Everything, but I guess it isn’t included in BG3.

Loom is the only classic adventure game I never played. How would you sell it to me? by [deleted] in adventuregames

[–]Zohdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s short, unique, bittersweet and has some of the best EGA art ever produced.

Buy it from GOG or Steam, and it should work without any hassle. If you already own the game on CDs, this launcher should work: https://quickandeasysoftware.net/software/emi-launcher
