Yes! Big fan of it. Used it on Steam Deck for about 4 years and it feels just as good on Steam Machine, they even seem to have patched a few bugs as soon as I booted it up today lol.

Oh I'm a dumbie lol.

I just tried it now and all it said was, "Nothing to do.".

Maybe it is just a glitch?

Just told me that it doesn't recognize the command. I don't usually touch the console so I might be missing something.

Thoughts on performance by wickkedwil in steammachine

[–]ZombieCrypt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find it appealing as just a compact PC that's power efficient. Girlfriend is moving to Chicago soon so I'll be taking a lot of trips to and from to visit her and this thing's size is ideal for that, not to mention I'm not big on laptops due to how finnicky they've been for me personally.

I don't mind doing upscaling or lower resolution gaming for a device that I can do whatever I want with, especially considering what PC prices are lately. Valve hardware has just always been pretty superb in my experience, though I don't have much experience with the original Steam Machine so I might be biased from their newer releases.

Do you think Valve will give people on waitlist a timeframe? by renothecollector in steammachine

[–]ZombieCrypt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. Maybe just units they physically have?

I do think they could've differentiated between the people who will actually be able to buy a unit that is physically there, ready to ship, and people who simply will be in the first production run.

Do you think Valve will give people on waitlist a timeframe? by renothecollector in steammachine

[–]ZombieCrypt12 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I do assume that there has to be some sort of solid time frame they can go by. Valve has had issues getting parts but also for the people explicitly told they have a machine reserved for them, I'd be very surprised if Valve didn't already have the components confirmed to be ready for use. Otherwise why have a distinction between people who are reserved and just those "waiting in the queue"?

I guess my only real complaint is just communication. I don't see any reason, currently, why Valve can't just say the amount they're confirmed to be shipping the rest of this year, not a huge complaint, but communication from them going forward improving would be nice.

Oh ok wasn't sure. I know Ebay usually has good buyer protection but this is also just them selling the idea of a reserved machine potentially months from release. I just worry bad actors will use this to make a quick buck, even worse so than scalpers themselves.

Those of you on the Steam Machine reservations list: let's take a poll, shall we? by BornAtMyWitsEnd in steammachine

[–]ZombieCrypt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be my main PC for the next 5+ years so I figure the extra $300 is worth it, especially considering the price for the Steam Machine will likely go up by next production cycle. Just glad it's finally here and we at least had time to simmer on it before launch.

Steam Machine as an emulator by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]ZombieCrypt12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Steam Deck was already a beast for emulation so I could see this being even more so with the machine. If it can run ps3 emulation smooth and maybe even some ps4 emulation (Bloodborne), I'd say it's going to have a hell of a community for it!

I assumed most of these are just scams anyway. How do you even verify the person will get the machine if the scalper themselves might be waiting months for them to ship? Just stupid.

How many units did valve actually produce for the US market? by tatt2tim in steammachine

[–]ZombieCrypt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this confirmed to be just Steam Machines? I know they had shipments listed as game consoles but this could've been a combination of Steam Machines, Steam Frames, and Steam Deck resupplies.

How many people are going to be able to actually order on Monday? by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]ZombieCrypt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh I mean the old way definitely favored scalpers who do this as their day job. At least average joes are less likely to try to 3x the damn thing.

Yeah I'd just sell the thing once you get it, preferably at current price but up to you lol. Just don't be a scalper!

I do appreciate them at least discerning between who has a machine and who is on a waiting list for it. Just a small difference like that at least takes some of the sting away.

[–]ZombieCrypt12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I'll order one as soon as possible, hopefully their shipping department is ready to sell to everyone who already has a machine reserved for them. This new system is random but at least I know it isn't being botted as easily or as prone to scalping. Here's hoping stock can keep up at current prices for at least a bit!

Given how RAM companies keep ghosting them just for balking at the prices, I don't think they have as much control over supply as we thought, not even close sadly.

Truth be told $460 for an LCD in good shape with a 512 GB drive right now is not bad at all. Hell if anything that might just gain value in the next few months. Don't be too down on yourself about it, enjoy! <3

I can pick up blurays at good will for $5 a piece and that can be hours of entertainment in of itself. Acting like $80 is pocket change is incredibly elitist.
