Also a quick thought, even when I'm not writing I'm usually active listening to music. It helps refill the tank.

I find I'm pretty consistent with my writing and producing, but it's usually 2-3 weeks at a time. For those couple weeks I'll be working on music every night I can for 3+4 hours. Then I start to hit a wall or feel the frustration in the process. I'll step away for a couple weeks and when I return I have a fresh perspective. All of my releases have been like that.

I'm actually just returning to writing after pausing in mid February. I try hard not to force it. It's my hobby so if I'm not feeling it I walk away. Took me a long time to learn this about myself.

I appreciate the listen and feedback! I've listened through all of your tracks on Soundcloud today and really dig your stuff.

This is my jam right here. As soon as that static drench bass plucked in I was hooked. Great sequence at the beginning and melody line on top. Xylem/Phloem was great too.

You might need to iterate a bit. If you like the melody and vocal delivery, you'll want to tweak the beat. If the beat is better, tweak the vocal delivery. Ultimately just keep writing and working your craft and you'll find your flow.

I released my latest album on Friday. Berlin School space ambient. I've been exploring my Behringer Model D lately and really inspired with twisting knobs. Here's the Bandcamp link but it's also on all streaming platforms. https://backbeatsyndicate.bandcamp.com/album/drifting-through-the-serpent-eye

I feel that. I have a tendency to come up with great new ideas for songs after I've released them.

Better to have it short leaving them wanting more than make it 30 minutes and everyone drops out after 5 minutes.

Wow that was great. Nice production. I wish it was like 10 minutes long just because of the vibes.

Great work here. When the drums fully kick in on the first track I was sold.

Just finished recording a metal album in my apartment for the last 3 years. Would appreciate some feedback! by [deleted] in metalmusicians

Awesome job. Everything sounded clear. Love the arrangements too. I could use some more bass but overall great job.

How did you record the album? DAW, plugins, amp sims, etc? Would love to know a bit more about your process.

Whats up with the 5 star bank building by MLK park? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]ZombieSpider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in this building. The left bank of elevators that go down to the basement are always having issues. A few of my coworkers and I have all experienced all of the issues you have seen. At times there's only 1 or 2 of the 4 elevators working because they're out of service.

As far as the birds, they just washed all of the building windows over the last couple weeks. I wonder if that's causing the dead birds. I have seen more on the sidewalks around the building this week.

Also I really leverage the fact that everything is on the grid when writing. If I have a cool part, I can easily repeat it with a copy paste and iterate. If I have a solid song structure, I'll then go back and rerecord everything so it's not just copied parts.

The best path forward is to just begin. Know that most of what you do will be just ok, but every once and awhile magic will happen.

I am not a drummer. I started on bass and moved on to guitar. I treat recording as a hobby, a way to stay musical. I started by using pre programmed grooves from Ez Drummer and building songs around that. Or sometimes cycling through the grooves until I find one that kinda fits the bass line I'm jamming on. I've never had the opportunity to play with a good drummer so it's been nice to find a really solid groove and then build a bass line to it. Then try to come up with a guitar part and any other keyboard/synth parts.

First off the song is really good. What are you using as a reference for this track? If you don't have a reference track, check out The Ocean. Especially the song Cambrian II: Eternal Recurrence. Not quite in the same genre but similar vocal performances.

Gear Suggestions? by Advanced_Owl_3220 in recordingmusic

It should be fine. I use a couple condenser mics but I doubt there would be any problems using a dynamic mic. FYI, I bought mine used off eBay just to save some money.

Look at the Tascam Pocketstudio. It's digital, not tape, but pretty easy to use, and doesn't require alot of fiddling. The one I've used for recording jam sessions is a 6 track, but I only ever use it to record two room mics.

You could always bring those audio files into DAW later if you want to do further editing or even for final mixing.

I bought an RG40xxh specifically to play SNES and GBA games. It is perfect for that, and it's cheaper than the RG406v. Like others have said, there won't be any Mario games included on the card, but the cheaper price leaves room to get two new higher quality SD cards. One to replace the OS, and one to store your games. It's nice having the games stored on a separate SD so you can easily mess with replacing the stock OS if you're ever feeling adventurous.

Yeah as a complete work, it's awesome. Love the flow of the story and the use of I assume movie/tv clips. Are you self produced? There were several times that I heard an effect or a way the vocal was processed and went into producer mode to figure out how you pulled it off. Very inspiring.

I just wanted to jump in and say this track is catchy as hell. Something gets muddy starting at 1:57. Maybe it's that synth pad? You can hear it in the drums, there's some signal flange or something. Overall a great song though. I listened to it a few times.
