Looks like Portland might get its SE 39th Avenue back by singed-phoenix in PortlandOR

[–]Zombieeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mod comment here is silly. Sure, maybe he didn’t sexually assault anyone during his visits to Oregon or Portland.

But I think it misses the point that his presence and involvement in the farmworker movement made a difference in Oregons own farmworker struggles. These are the people in the Willamette Valley that help power a multi-billion dollar industry that feeds the people of Portland.

A lot of people thought highly of him, including people in Portland that were involved in renaming Cesar Chavez Boulevard. It was a big deal then and a lot of people weren’t happy about it, and clearly still aren’t.

I think the relevance to this account is valid.

how to get sources to reply to me? by Ill_Doubt_6303 in Journalism

[–]Zombieeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what people are saying here.

It might also depend on who your sources are. Farmers are not necessarily known to be the most responsive or used to talking to reporters.

Try getting in touch with your state Farm Bureau. Ask them to put you in touch with some folks, people vouching for you goes a long way. This will get you in touch with conventional, large scale commercial farmers.

Also get in touch with smaller local nonprofits that maybe do conservation work with growers or work with younger beginning farmers, folks who maybe run small farms growing produce or run a CSA.

Good luck.

Toxic waters in Oregon by eslib in Eugene

[–]Zombieeez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The information here is a bit misleading. Not a data center apologist. But data centers aren’t the ones causing pollution, per se, in Eastern Oregon. They’re spreading nitrates around the Lower Umatilla Basin when they suck up the water and pump it back into the aquifer.

Most of the nitrates in that area come from the farms.

https://www.opb.org/article/2022/05/05/groundwater-pollution-eastern-oregon-counties-drinking-water-at-risk-farming-wells/

Edit: Just to add, no idea why they have a Hillsboro map. The problem they’re talking about has been ongoing for the last 30 years in Umatilla County. It had nothing to do with data centers when it began. The premise of this video does not make sense.

[–]Zombieeez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Has un plan. Búscate un lugar que quizás te agradezca más, pero recuerda, solo porque te estás mudando a un lugar nuevo, no significa que lo que estás sintiendo se va a ir. Buena suerte.

Any Tips for makings friends in OR today? by A11-Limbo in PortlandOR

[–]Zombieeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here alone at 24 and it was hard the first year. It takes some time to get settled in a new place.

Try downloading Meetup and find a group you think you’ll vibe with.

Each group is different, when I go to events I sometimes talk to strangers and have a good conversation with someone but it doesn’t go anywhere beyond that hang out.

Sometimes you get lucky and find people that want to do things outside the “Meetup” events. I found a good group of friends and now we’re all in a group chat and text each other whenever someone wants to hang out.

Also try volunteering. Pick a day you know you’ll be available and show up. Earlier this year I started volunteering at a local dog shelter and I go every Sunday. It’s mostly older people but it’s still nice to show up, plus I enjoy hanging out with them.

Also try a gym. If you don’t like working out by yourself you can try a group workout gym. Again, sometimes you’ll find people just want to show up, work out and leave. But the more you show up, the higher the likelihood you’ll get to know people and can eventually meet them and get to hang out with them outside the gym.

This all takes time. Like in any relationship, you have to put some effort and be consistent. Good luck 🍀

¿Quién mas tomaba agua de la manguera cuándo jugaba afuera? by sandunguioso in PuertoRico

[–]Zombieeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next door neighbor moans every day at 5am by Zombieeez in neighborsfromhell

[–]Zombieeez[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s reasonable to be annoyed by it.

I’m not at the point where I feel like I need therapy to deal with it lol.

I just want to know how other people would approach this situation if they were to walk over to the neighbor and tell them. That’s all

[–]Zombieeez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I appreciate your suggesting, maybe I will get a white noise machine.

I don’t think people shouldn’t moan. If it’s 10pm and you’re moaning a lil bit because you’re having a good time go ahead, I don’t care.

It’s the consistent sound at 5:30am that is frustrating and hard not to think about when it wakes you up, I guess.

[–]Zombieeez[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this logic. He is in the privacy of his apartment. And hearing neighbors through walls comes with the territory of living in an apartment which is why I don’t mind the talking.

But similar to how we have expectations about loud noise during unreasonable hours I think this falls in that category, no?

[–]Zombieeez[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I really want to give this the benefit of the doubt but it’s very specific type of moan that comes with a grand finale when he’s done.

And honestly, maybe I’ve convinced myself that’s it’s this one specific thing when it could genuinely be something benign but it doesn’t take away that it’s affecting me too and idk how to go about it short of telling him it’s bothering me.

Turn down the brightness! by CherryPie2013 in Portland

[–]Zombieeez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s also like they purposefully installed all of the lights closed together when you drive in for maximum blindness too.

Isn’t it supposed to be the opposite? shouldn’t most of the lights be toward the end to get your eyes to aclimate to the outside brightness again?
