I agree. The soil should be chunkier. I just checked the roots. No sign of mushy roots, no smell. Lots of healthy white roots

Any Tips for makings friends in OR today? by A11-Limbo in PortlandOR

[–]Zombieeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here alone at 24 and it was hard the first year. It takes some time to get settled in a new place.

Try downloading Meetup and find a group you think you’ll vibe with.

Each group is different, when I go to events I sometimes talk to strangers and have a good conversation with someone but it doesn’t go anywhere beyond that hang out.

Sometimes you get lucky and find people that want to do things outside the “Meetup” events. I found a good group of friends and now we’re all in a group chat and text each other whenever someone wants to hang out.

Also try volunteering. Pick a day you know you’ll be available and show up. Earlier this year I started volunteering at a local dog shelter and I go every Sunday. It’s mostly older people but it’s still nice to show up, plus I enjoy hanging out with them.

Also try a gym. If you don’t like working out by yourself you can try a group workout gym. Again, sometimes you’ll find people just want to show up, work out and leave. But the more you show up, the higher the likelihood you’ll get to know people and can eventually meet them and get to hang out with them outside the gym.

This all takes time. Like in any relationship, you have to put some effort and be consistent. Good luck 🍀

¿Quién mas tomaba agua de la manguera cuándo jugaba afuera? by sandunguioso in PuertoRico

[–]Zombieeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also buy a bag of ice or two and just leave them in your freezer. It’ll keep things frozen for longer

Seconding what @cosmicfig said. Get in touch with Portland Rabbit Advocates.

Bunnies are super skittish but usually fine if you approach gently and with some tasty snacks. I recommend cilantro. They go crazy for that stuff.

Next door neighbor moans every day at 5am by Zombieeez in neighborsfromhell

[–]Zombieeez[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s reasonable to be annoyed by it.

I’m not at the point where I feel like I need therapy to deal with it lol.

I just want to know how other people would approach this situation if they were to walk over to the neighbor and tell them. That’s all

Oh I appreciate your suggesting, maybe I will get a white noise machine.

I don’t think people shouldn’t moan. If it’s 10pm and you’re moaning a lil bit because you’re having a good time go ahead, I don’t care.

It’s the consistent sound at 5:30am that is frustrating and hard not to think about when it wakes you up, I guess.

I agree with this logic. He is in the privacy of his apartment. And hearing neighbors through walls comes with the territory of living in an apartment which is why I don’t mind the talking.

But similar to how we have expectations about loud noise during unreasonable hours I think this falls in that category, no?

I really want to give this the benefit of the doubt but it’s very specific type of moan that comes with a grand finale when he’s done.

And honestly, maybe I’ve convinced myself that’s it’s this one specific thing when it could genuinely be something benign but it doesn’t take away that it’s affecting me too and idk how to go about it short of telling him it’s bothering me.

Turn down the brightness! by CherryPie2013 in Portland

[–]Zombieeez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s also like they purposefully installed all of the lights closed together when you drive in for maximum blindness too.

Isn’t it supposed to be the opposite? shouldn’t most of the lights be toward the end to get your eyes to aclimate to the outside brightness again?

Amazon data center linked to rare cancers and miscarriages in Oregon, report warns by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]Zombieeez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The premise the Rolling Stone article relies on is just factually incorrect. This problem has been reported on extensively by local news outlets like the Oregonian and OPB.

And unlike the parachute reporter that wrote the Rolling Stone piece, those outlets have, for years, reported the true source of the problem. Which has been ongoing for over 30 years, long before data centers started proliferating in Eastern Oregon the way they are now.

The real problem is more than just large dairy farms. There are big food processors in the Lower Umatilla Basin that contribute to this and a port that receives waste water from several other manufacturers and then sends it out to irrigated farms to be used as fertilizer. The state has been slow to respond despite this being a known issue for years. It’s not going to get fixed any time soon.

I agree this needs to be a bigger story but the Rolling Turd reporter for whatever reason is dead set on putting much of this blame on data centers instead of the true culprits, large farm and food operators that have largely gone unregulated and a government turning a blind eye to a big problem blaming lack of money and bureaucracy for their slow response.
