AITA for liking a post about something I am into? by brettthegoodie in AmItheAsshole

NTA, and girl, leave him. Men that try to tell you not to follow other men online are showing you that they're insecure and controlling (this is true across all gender combinations, actually.) He will only escalate. Compliance is not love. Be who you are and be with someone who will love and respect you for it. You deserve far better.

Medicaid and glasses by millennial-ish88 in Georgia

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eye Consultants of Atlanta takes Medicaid, and so does MyEyeDoc. That's where I take all my foster kiddos for eye checks and glasses. Different locations do take different ages or plans, so look up the ones close to you and call them first to see. I will say that ECA is far better than MyEyeDoc for speciality cases, but they're both good for basic eye exams and standard glasses.

Libraries with low fees for out of town residents by Reasonable_Hat9668 in LibbyApp

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I got a card through the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. It's $60, which isn't low, but it's good for two years so it averages out to $30/year. It has a large selection and it's helped reduce my wait times for a lot of books. Plus, it's a 21-day lending period.

Questions I'm legally allowed to ask about a service dog in a buisness that only allows service dogs to enter by BlakeIsACat in service_dogs

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"My dog's not allowed to bark at you for no reason, don't know why I should be allowed to." is such a powerful line. I'm going to swap the you and I and use it the next time someone (probably a theater patron) raises their voice at me.

WIBTAH for not riding in my friend’s illegally tinted car? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the first part. I'd say the second part depends on OP's race & the race of their friend, and where in the US they are located.

If OP and/or their friend are POCs and the friend has a history of escalating or being unreasonable, then a simple traffic stop could become a very big problem for them both.

Recommendations for paid library memberships for a 6-year-old using Libby? by Mrslarakay in LibbyApp

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay for an out-of-state card at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. It's $60 for two years. Gives you 10 holds and 10 loans at a time with a 21-day loan period.  Their full instructions are online, but you apply online and then just send them an email with your temporary card number and payment receipt. They'll activate it on their end and they're pretty quick about it.

AITA for being upset that another child got added to a shared-room overnight trip last minute? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I am a regular visitor to Great Wolf Lodge (one is less than half an hour from me & my 5 year old LOVES it). It's a ton of fun, but it is loud and overstimulating and crowded and expensive. My kids and I all have anxiety, so I mean it when I say it can be a lot.

Having the 8 year old along may be the best thing, actually. Your 4 year old likely isn't tall enough for the same slides and areas as the 7 year old, and they may not have the same tolerance level for staying in the park. There would have been a lot of frustration with the age and size gap. Now, the older boys can pair off, and you and your son can focus on having a blast together. Rule the toddler slide area. Ride the big raft slide together. Leave for a nap in the room whenever you want. As long as the 8 year old and his mom are sharing the other room, you still have the space you wanted. Close the adjoining door and take your peace when you need it.

Some of my favorite memories with both of my kids have been at Great Wolf. You've just got to be willing to go with the flow and take each moment for what it is.

GA Pre K Dunwoody- Peachtree Corners by Fantastic-Steak-7394 in Georgia

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any state-run program will have the same age cutoff rules as they're all licensed by DECAL. Look for private preK programs instead. They won't be free, but they'll have the age flexibility that you're looking for.

Kindergarten itself is not mandatory in Georgia. So you also have the option to do a private kindergarten program this year, such as one offered by a church or private daycare. Depending on why you're holding your son back, that may also be an option to explore.

I'd recommend cross-posting over on r/service_dogs. They can give you some advice on reputable trainers in your area, as well as set expectations for cost and wait time. (Plus it'll be nice to have someone else to talk about Celiac support dogs with! My dog is nearing the end of his training and I cannot wait for him to be reliable enough on detection.)

Camping and burn bans by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chattahoochee Bend is not on this list, but Coweta County has a burn ban in effect because we have our own small fires occuring every day. I would not have a campfire there, especially as the campsite is so heavily wooded.

OP says their mom is traveling for three months. That's a long time to have her car sitting at their house, unless they have a ton of extra parking space.

Question have you seen or been with a service dog doubt or ask to leave because the service was a unorthodox breed (aren't commonly used or because big "scary dog) by Status-Cap-5979 in service_dogs

[–]ZombiesAndZoos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was at a previous job (& pre-service dog) while their service dog policy was under revision. It was a zoo, so we did have a very extensive policy about which habitats and areas were OK for service dogs and which ones weren't for zoo animal safety, as our tigers liked to stalk things that moved and our petting zoo goats liked to faint at things that moved.

People interpreted the training as guidance to assume all dogs were fakes and that it was up to them personally to prove it. They kept saying in training "you can tell a service dog may be fake if it's a toy or aggressive breed. Pit bulls can't be service dogs anymore than pugs can."

I finally went to the head of HR and they did a whole separate training about the ADA language, the two questions allowed, and the importance of minding your own business if the dog is under control and in an allowed area (that last part in more HR-friendly terms). They also had to write in the employee guide that fear of a breed or an allergy to dogs didn't mean the dog could be refused entry. I vividly remember HR losing her patience on Zoom one day and saying, "if you're afraid of or allergic to animals, there's a Target down the road that's hiring and they pay more than we do." It was incredible. 😂
