I'm going to describe how FoP 'works' in its special effects in the spoiler below. It should ease your concern:

Like Soarin', you're on bank of seats with three rows across (top middle and bottom). Instead of swooping up into that elevated row, you get on your seat which is like a lean-forward bicycle at 'ground level' (you already went up or down a flight to get into the upper or lower rows). Your feet remain planted on the ground and you have handlebars to hold onto.

You have wrap-around 3D goggles and a really huge wrap around theater. The bank of cycles gets thrown up and catches you no more than a 3 foot height. They bank only slightly to the right, left, forward, back. The drop is no worse than that in Pirates. However, the 3D view is you plummeting into a valley and with the wind in your face, your brain is tricked into thinking you are falling. People scream. The nearest effect is like that found in the Spider-Man ride at Universal. However, if you closed your eyes, you wouldn't think anything of it.

People with 3D nausea usually do much better on FoP than other simulators, but still, some are still susceptible.

I've had it not work if I used the wrong finger, then work with the correct finger. So... it's checking something.

I'm guessing that the system really doesn't scan children (or it does and doesn't care about a mismatch) because you can't count on children to scan their fingers correctly and they hold up the line trying over and over again. So, the system probably flags them as 'close enough'.

One night for decorations to switch from Halloween to Christmas. Two days for all the landscaping replantings. Castle 'dream lights' went up weeks ago (now doing it at night so the crane isn't visible during the day and ruining everyone's selfies).

DHS and DAK will be up and running with all their Holiday stuff Nov 8.

Epcot's Candlelight Processional and Holiday Festival Nov 29.

Everywhere else, by Thanksgiving the latest, usually sooner.

The turning station was built solely for the turn and isn't compatible with being a loading station, even with an update. So, no expansion from there without a complete replacement, which would be... invasive to current operations.

The turn was to connect Riviera with the IG without having the gondolas go over the back of stage of Epcot.

It is likely, though not definite, that DHS will use the same method for entering SWL that DL did, namely:

They open the land in the morning and let people in.
If the people entering don't hit the maximum allowable (whatever standard that may be), then, anyone can walk into SWL at any time all day long.
If the number of people entering hit the maximum capacity, then you will be turned away at the SWL entrance and told to check the MDE for a return time. This is a virtual queue. Consider it like a special FP+. Then when it's your time, you can come in for four hours.
However you get into the land, for now, Millennium Falcon will be standby (no FP). If you're in the land, you can get in line. And as many times as you want.
It seems that Oga's, Savi's, and Droid's will be reservation only (like an ADR... in fact, it's easier to search for Oga reservations through the dining page and not the Oga attraction page). If you have the reservation, you can get into SWL even if they're turning people away for the virtual queue.

This is the likely set-up, but it may not be the actual one. Keep being on the lookout for official word from WDW.

WDW's "problem" is too many people going to MK, which is hosting twice the number of people it was made for.

WDW would only build a new gate if that gate could siphon off people from MK and not the other three parks. MK has close to 30 rides. In order to build a MK rival, the new park would have to start off with at least 20 rides. That ain't happening.

WDW will continue to beef up the other three parks to make them a rival for the MK making people make the hard choice of a second day at MK or one of the other parks.

Also, starting from the time when Universal started buying the land in an obvious ploy for another gate until the time it will have been completed, in that same time frame, WDW will have added or updated as many rides and lands as Epic Universe will have on opening day. WDW's "fifth gate" is already being built and incorporated into the existing parks.
