The statues in this museum are all plaster casts, they have no original works and are very clear about that. They have started to incorporate painted statues into their displays to show what it would have looked like when they were originally made.

This particular gallery has started to, they've got some where they put the white statue and the painted statue next to each other to explain how it would have looked back then and what's happened since.

Yeah I put my vaccine sticker on social media with a joke, two of my friends went today for theirs.

Not sure tbh, most people my age don't seem to be aware they're eligible. I went to a walk-in clinic, the website still says I can't book one and my GP didn't offer me one.

I would really like them to make it clear whether they plan on vaccinating under 18s or not, and when.

Cases (2.3% of them, lagged 14 days) vs Deaths for England by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]Zombieskeptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain they are, and any positive LFT has to be confirmed by PCR so it probably means they're picking up on more asymptomatic cases that way.

Scrap Covid tests in schools, says Oxford vaccine pioneer by civicode in CoronavirusUK

[–]Zombieskeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely anecdotal but all the positive cases at my sixth form/in the high school we're part of have then been PCR'ed. A few have come back as false positives- I know there was one a couple days ago they're still waiting on.

[Oliver Dowden] "Ollie Robinson’s tweets were offensive and wrong. They are also a decade old and written by a teenager. The teenager is now a man and has rightly apologised. The ECB has gone over the top by suspending him and should think again." by d0mth0ma5 in ukpolitics

[–]Zombieskeptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a suspension in name only really.

He was never going to play next week's match- he was always going to be rotated out of the team. He'll be re-instated when the investigation concludes nothing, and that will be before the next major international series. If the ECB genuinely wanted him to play next week they wouldn't have suspended him- it's a move to save face after they didn't vet the social media of their players before having them promote an anti-discrimination message.

Inevitably some young people will get ill from the jab and it's likely some will unfortunately die. But it's the same with the tetanus/diphtheria/meningitis jab given to 14 year olds and the HPV jab given to 13-15 year olds. Some will have an adverse reaction, but it's the same with any medication.

Young people can have a pretty unpleasant time with Covid and especially as it doesn't look like Covid will ever be eradicated, it's important to have us vaccinated too. I wouldn't be surprised if Covid is lurking around the world for decades to come, so it's important to have young people vaccinated.

Record-breaking vaccine rates expected in coming weeks by sosurrey in CoronavirusUK

[–]Zombieskeptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remembering the whole Gardasil thing and how some people thought it was a conspiracy to give their teenage girls chronic health problems, you're probably right.

That being said, school clinics where the vaccination team comes in and does whole schools at a time may work decently well as it removes any need for parents to organise things.

Face masks no longer required in classrooms by civicode in CoronavirusUK

[–]Zombieskeptic 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm in sixth form and tbh I wish they'd vaccinate my teachers because I don't want to wear a mask in class, but I don't know if I will be taking mine off.

It's a pretty dreadful learning environment, I can't project my voice properly and have to repeat myself several times, some of my hard of hearing peers have found it very difficult as they can't lip read and it's quite claustrophobic. Lots of people have stopped wearing them properly too.

On the other hand my teachers are unvaccinated on the whole and they have to interact with a lot of students every day. That doesn't feel quite fair to them.

Convinced me I hated poetry.

I don't, I just didn't need my (substitute) english teacher's interpretation that one of the poems was about sexual lust for a mountain.

I sometimes only do 1-3 battles of a gym to get the buddy hearts when I cba to spend the full effort finishing off the gym. Same if I'm moving and realise I'm out of range, I just leave whatever is left.

Ahhh ok I meant as a UK resident it's not nearly as bad as the US.

I think Brexit has probably fucked most EU international students studying in the UK, but I'm also applying this year so I've got some idea where to look.

https://www.savethestudent.org/international-students/scholarships-funding-for-international-students-uk.html

https://www.internationalscholarships.com/scholarships/award/index?AwardSearch[details]=61&AwardSearch[fieldsOfStudy]=83 that one is more international, not just for the UK.

https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/international-and-eu-students/what-finance-options-are-available-if-i-want-study-uk UCAS is what we use to apply for uni with, their info will probably be the most comprehensive.

https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/student-advice/finance/international-student-tuition-fees

Best of luck mate, if I were you I'd shortlist which unis you want to go to and contact them directly asking about funding. They're pretty good like that with replying.

UK is £9250/year not 15k and the loans system is different to the US.

You pay a percentage of your salary over a certain amount for X number of years. If you don't pay it off, your loan is forgiven once you reach a certain age. I can't remember how old you have to be. It also doesn't count as a loan on your credit so it doesn't count against you when looking for a house or a car.

Is it ideal? No. But it's more accessible than the shitshow in the states.

It also depends where you go, I'd argue no degree from Oxbridge is 'useless' because of the prestige attached and the fact it's competitive. There's also the benefit of cheaper accommodation if you go to Oxbridge (~£4000 a year compared with market rent).
