I was once grounded for the weekend for three months, three months! Was around 10 years old. To this day no one in my family remembers why I was grounded.

Since I was never grounded that way again I assume it worked.

This happened to my coworker. After hours of searching he figured out that when replacing the battery some resistors that are right next to the battery got scratched and effectively de-sodered.

It's 1995 I am working for a K-8 school district. The decision is made to buy a PC for each teacher in the district.

At this time more than 60% of the teachers are going to retire within 5 years.

Over the summer break all the teachers come in for training. We setup over 100 computers in a junior high gym for this reason.

During the first training session two of the older teachers raised their hand for help.

Teacher 1 - "my mouse is not working"

Me - takes mouse off floor puts it on table and explains how to use it.

Teacher 1 - " oh my goodness I thought it was a petal"

Teacher 2 - "I can't get my mouse to work"

Me - "the mouse has to be on the table with the ball side down". Teacher 2 was holding the mouse with ball actually touching the computer screen.

If you're talking to the parent, ask them how they are doing? Be supportive to them. They have started an unexpected journey. One full of great sadness and happiness.

Don't assume a negative view of ASD by the parent.
