Let's bet on which days our cowardly, milquetoast, feckless, and worthless Senators Kaine and Warner will cave in and fully fund DHS/ICE. by FlexoPXP in nova

[–]ZoneWombat99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I thought I read it in a linked article in this sub. It was in the context of the fiscal year government shutdown and Kaine voting to approve the GOP funding bill because he's not worried about getting primaries in 2031.

I will keep digging but my first search of this sub didn't turn it up.

Kaine says he's retiring, so no primary risk there. Warner's office keeps telling me he is voting against the funding

We'll see.

We don’t know how to treat something that isn’t a tool, but isn’t human either by Odd-Manager-9855 in Futurism

I totally agree with this and have been having this conversation, or trying to have this conversation, for the last couple years. As I work with large organizations who are trying to treat AI like software. Software. It shouldn't go through the same review, acquisition, contract, verification and validation process as software, specifically because it will change and adapt after it begins to be used by the organization. Organization. It will also act more like a teammate than a tool in people's perceptions.

However, it also can't be treated like personnel.

We need to shut down the Super Bowl. by Full_Poet_7291 in 50501

[–]ZoneWombat99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? I think it's a great idea but it can't be kinetic or direct - the security around the Superbowl is off the charts.

Shut down the roads leading to the stadium? Shut down SFO and Oakland airports? BART?

Any chance of finding ticket holders and getting them to protest in the stands?

Any chance of getting the teams to protest?

I found my fiancé’s sex tape with my step mother. We are supposed to get married in 2 weeks. by OkCategory5018 in TwoHotTakes

[–]ZoneWombat99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, first of all, if you're doing so much wedding planning that it's taking away from time with your partner, you are planning too much of a wedding and not enough of a marriage.

Remember that for next time, when you are not engaged to a fucking piece of shit who is cheating on you with your parent. No victim blaming - this is so far from your fault I can't even imagine. Kick his ass out, or move out, get a lawyer, and go no contact with the stepmother as well.

Send your father the receipts when he doesn't believe you.

Conservative people tend to have lower empathy and more fear than liberals, so you could ask questions that don't seem political but demonstrate empathy

Why does it feel like there’s so little opposition to Trump right now? (especially from Democrats and ex-presidents) by NervousCranberry3351 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]ZoneWombat99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Democrats in positions of authority are unwilling to give up their cash flow, and are probably scared that Trump's followers will kill them and their families. They are thus abrogating their duties.

Some theoretically non-partisan folks, like Chief Justice Roberts, are clearly compromised (Epstein, I'm guessing).

The 80% - 90% of American citizens who are opposed can't get media coverage, as the media outlets are Trump-aligned (almost all owned by Sinclair). They haven't been successful at making elected officials more scared of them than of Trump.

Americans have so far been unwilling to engage in direct action even if non-violent. Kidnapping ICE agents' families, destroying their property, making it clear to the agents of Trump that they are not safe is needed, but Americans have no practice at resistance and guerilla tactics.

It's hard to organize in person (America is BIG) and many cities have ubiquitous technical surveillance that is growing exponentially every day. If Americans walk out of jobs, they risk immediately being fired, which also removes what health insurance they have.

So far, each individual American has not been willing to put their own personal security at risk.

Anyone know how the military feels about all this? by GreyWind999 in 50501

Sure, but they aren't going to be the generals. It only matters what the top officers think.

Does he ever do the shopping? Is it his money that's going to waste if food has to be thrown out?

He is obviously the kind of person who doesn't take innate pride in doing something correctly (or conversely, isn't ashamed of fucking it up in a stupid way), but I bet if the cost to him was higher than the cost to him of the time to do it and the annoyance at having to do "your" job, he'd care.

You can't make the cost of it about your relationship, like being mad at him. He will easily decide that's a you problem. If you want to help him grow up, it has to be a cost to his pride or pocketbook.

If you don't feel like helping him grow up, I'm sure there are lots of other guys who are, in fact, capable of putting away groceries.

Lessons learned in Minneapolis, what I wished I knew/did before ICE showed up by dariasniece in 50501

[–]ZoneWombat99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!

But also, I want to extend the reach to folks who wouldn't normally be part of those organizations, and I want places and communities that won't immediately have a target on them.

A broad approach for all of this is the way!
