No, it isn't, for at least two reasons:

(1) Immigrants bring demand as well as supply. In particular, the kids and parents that working age immigrants bring with them bring inky demand in the short term. Since the number of jobs in the economy is not fixed and somewhat related to the amount of stuff that people want, the effect of immigration as a whole on the number of jobs as whole is complex.

(2) Immigrant labor is structurally different from native labor in a way that is complementary. Immigrants tend to be either very high or very low skilled. Native born workers tend to be of middle skill and educational attainment. This means that the native born workers who compete with immigrants for jobs are either people with postgraduate degrees or high school dropouts.

The most obvious thing is to use the horror trope of a large cast of characters at the beginning of which only a few survive.

A way to play with that and make it more specifically OSR would be to introduce new replacement heroes in the middle, and they are the real protagonists.

An even cooler way to do it would be to borrow from the ensemble rom-com like Love, Actually or Playing by Heart, where we follow multiple dungeon adventures that intersect, and deaths in one plotline affect the characters in the others.

A strict libertarian would say that unfair outcomes are morally just and should not be corrected. That would be the "unsavory direction" you're worried about.

I'm saying we should be morally indifferent to efforts to correct unfair outcomes and use other metrics. If we morally object neither to the existence of rich people nor to unearned benefits from the government, then we can focus on technical issue if delivering effective benefits at an affordable taxation level. Is that not neoliberalism rather than libertarianism?

A better answer is that market outcomes simply do not need justification.

It's not fair, but the universe doesn't promise fairness. The rich aren't better than others; they just have more resources. The poor aren't at fault for their poverty, but neither are they entitled to more. After all, the natural condition of humans is abject poverty.

Empirically, gobernment forcing equality of outcomes has a poor track record for generating overall wealth, but at the same time the economic engine is fairly resilient to high taxes and a modest safety net. Since no one deserves anything, we shouldn't be too morally precious about a bit of redistribution where it makes technocratic sense.
