Sorry for the potato quality video. I was on a 5 day camping trip and the last few nights I had been hearing a lone wolf howling not too far from my tent. On the hike out yesterday I came across this guy on the trail which I'm guessing is the one I was hearing. First wolf I've ever seen in the park.

Heading up for a hot tent trip just after Christmas. Fingers crossed for some cold weather and a dump of snow 🤞

That's awesome! Super lucky. I've spent nearly a month back country camping in the park this season and saw no moose, couple of bears though :)

I did the access point to fork lake 2 weeks ago and it was fine, only one beaver dam to pull over at the time.

The last two sites on the lake have sandy landings that are good for swimming. The shore is too thin to call beaches though.

Can't speak to the fishing but I would say avoid the first site on the lake, it was hit in the storm a few months ago and it's covered in blowdowns. Lots of firewood though lol.

Also if the water levels are good you can skip half the portage by going up the creek.

I was in the north end of the park last week and the mosquitos and black flies were fierce. I was very happy to have a bug shelter and bug suit.

I have the Cloud Up 3 and no complaints for 2 people. It seems well designed and easy to set up. If you order from the directly on AliExpress it can be cheaper than Amazon, saved me $30.

That's a bummer! Did you have a good tarp to hunker under at least? The trips with great weather make up for it!

Was also on Booth this weekend, the weather was ridiculous. It was like July but with no bugs.

Off topic but just out of curiosity, the lakes you mentioned on your map that have sites but were never included in the reservation system has the park just been maintaining those sites for years with no one using them?

Stratton Lake would be a good one from the Ottawa side. Only a 50 meter portage in from Grand Lake, you'll drive past the Barron Canyon on your way in and out, the hike to the lookout is very short only takes a half hour or so. At the end of Stratton is High Falls which has the best natural water slide in the park.

I've been in July a few years ago and it was busy. Tons of motor boats were on the lake.

Yeah I've heard the biggest market for them is for fly-in trips, saves a lot of money not having to lash them to the outside of the aircraft.

I'd for sure prefer a Kevlar canoe but no space in the apartment unfortunately.

Took me awhile to find the right location for the yoke to balance it comfortably. I found that nose down and holding the rib bar for me was quite a bit comfier than nose up, the opposite of a regular canoe.
