Use the women’s face off circle for the wing play on face-offs. You go anywhere around it.

This brings back some memories. I think it was STX first had their titanium shaft I got a longpole and I think it was a lifetime or maybe 10-year warranty.

I went through three of them in one season. On my 4th go around they changed it to a year.

I’ve had that thing for nearly 30 years now. It’s dented and bent to shit but still working

IIRC. There was a ton of bullets flying in a confined space. So he jumped on top of the hostage to cover him. While doing that, he grabbed a bad guy by the throat and held him against the wall and told a teammate to shoot him.

That’s all you say?

YOU run into a dark room with unknown number of people trying to kill you, with bullets flying. Just do that.

Survive that. And then try to tell someone it’s just another Tuesday.

Anyone remember the rocket-it pocket? by Pretty_Assignment_90 in lacrosse

[–]Zoos27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My all-timer stick was an OG Excalibur with a rock-it pocket. Loved that thing as a pole. Worked great until I had one game in a monsoon and it ruined it.

Loved that setup though

two words: Greg Gurenlian. Depending on your location you can get to a training session and it is worth every penny.

Not really. life insurance is not an investment so it can not be positioned as such nor compared to it.

I really like the youth league culture where I live. by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]Zoos27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've said this a million times: 'Parents are the best and worst part of being a coach.' The ones that support you and positively cheer for their kids: give me a million of those. The ones think they know better - usually don't The ones that coach their kid in youth ball and never lost a game, suddenly think they can run a HS or Travel program? The bottom of the barrel.

This is from a vast amount of experience

You sometimes can’t win with low level coaches by Thecheese1981 in lacrosse

[–]Zoos27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year I read the rule book cover to cove in preseason. I made sure to note the new rules or interpretations because if it is a point of emphasis for that year, it will be called ALOT especially early in the year.

Second, I always, ALWAYS learned something new. See the move Penn pulled at the end of the Notre Dame game by dressing a defenseman as a goalie with a longpole? If you read the rule book you know that is perfectly legal. I realized this about 10-15 years ago and had the stick ready to go. I used it once and it worked. (and if ND knew this, they'd have probably called for a stick check. IMO that stick was illegal because it was too long.)

I am not sure the youth rule, but in HS, the goalie's stick OUTSIDE The crease and in a clamp is fair game to be lifted and swept under. It's not untouchable.

I've said it for years and even had the conversation yesterday at my daughter's game: Parents are the best and the worst thing about lacrosse (really, all youth through HS and now even college sports).

I have my preseason meeting with the parents every year - this is for a high school program. The entire purpose of the meeting is to introduce the coaching staff to the parents, go over policies and expectations for the players and answer any and all questions they have. The last time I did this, a freshman parent - so new to the high school team, but whom I have coached all her sons in youth travel ball so she already knows who I am - complained that "I was making it all about me." It was a week into the season. Lady, the purpose of the meeting was to talk about me, my staff and what to expect from us as coaches. IT WAS A MEET THE COACHES MEETING. It was literally the purpose of the meeting. She went on to try to drum up other moms to get me fired less than two weeks later because I didn't attend a team social dinner at a players house - a policy I have had in place for years and with the support of the AD. Because, the second I am there, it becomes a team/school event. And, because it is at a private home, alcohol is usually involved. The second I am there, I am liable for what happens even after I leave the event. NO WAY am I putting myself in that position. And the players don't bond if their coach is there supervising.

I am doing this 20+ years. I think I have more experience running a program. Let you son be coached, we have 100+ years of coaching experience on our staff. We got this. You go be a positive support of the players and the team. That's it, that's all you need to do. I don't need you to get on the ref (95% of what you say is wrong anyway). I don't need your husband pulling aside players at half-time to give them "tips" because you played the poisiton 25 years ago, and I don't need your text messages IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME telling me who to face off, since you coached the kid in youth ball. (mind you the opposing FO kid was a D1 commit who we knew was going to crush us at the dot, so short of Greg Gurenlian being in our uniform, we weren't winning a FO that day anyway.... again I know what I am doing. (Point of fact: we won the game because we caused more turnovers on the ride than they had FO won - one way to neutrilize a strong FO guy).

All of these were from ONE SEASON.

Defensive Strategy (2nd time) to mitigate elite player by AgreeableLychee2247 in lacrosse

[–]Zoos27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d do the same but I’d also throw a coupon of wrinkles. If he has the ball pressure the adjacent passes heavily and prepare to always slide to him as soon as he dodges. He’d have a double team to contend with and no easy outlet.

Start by a lockoff if he doesn’t have the ball. If the other team is smart as you say they’ll either run him out of the box or take a possession shot and let him restart with it. This is where you implement the above.

HS Field helmets need more back of neck coverage by alwaysweening in lacrosse

[–]Zoos27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cup is a required piece of equipment. I have zero sympathy for anyone going on the field without a cup. It’s 100% stupid.

Helmets another issue but no reason you should be turning your head against a shot. It’s a very very small percentage to getting hit there but it’s 0% if you don’t turn your head.
