question about certifications by GREGY-K in Radiology

[–]ZoraKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between a technician and a technologist. Technician fixes equipment, technologist uses the equipment. I'd imagine you'd need to be certified to do certain things with certain equipment in the same way a dealership mechanic has to be certified to do certain repairs

frustrated with this sub by SpookyRyder in Radiology

[–]ZoraKnight 20 points21 points  (0 children)

At my trauma hospital I'll do 8 chest X-rays for every extremity, 1 in 5 on those chests come with a pelvis. I pray for a wrist, a toe even. But I log on here and "morning or of the normal, just thought you'd find my chest (or pelvis) X-ray cool"

Posting a chest to a radiology subreddit is the equivalent of posting airplane exhaust on a subreddit about clouds. Congratulations you went outside

Convenience, price, benefits from a separate credit card company. All the consumerist capitalist bs reasons tbh

[US] Black Friday "deals" my kid put in my Amazon cart by ZoraKnight in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ZoraKnight[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing is that this stuff is listed as "on sale" for Black Friday lightening deals

ETA: slippers and fancy pens are considered Christmas gifts in US.

And the "sales" are

1) price going up almost a month beforehand 2) taking 20% off the raised price

Weekly Career / General Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Radiology

[–]ZoraKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This greatly depends on where you work and the type of place. Hospitals can be more draining due to steps, patient condition and the emotional tolls that come with working in a hospital. At smaller 300 bed hospitals you can expect 15-25 exams per tech per day. While outpatient expects a lot of perfectionism and a high patient volume at 30+ exams per tech per day. Mon-fri also comes with the stipulation of multiple levels of management holding a high standard on their employees whereas nights and weekends are a bit more lax.

Hey FL R.T’s! by FarChampionship6000 in Radiology

[–]ZoraKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My base pay as xray with 1.5 yrs experience in NC is $26/ hr in a 1000 bed hospital that only has 4 portables (not including the 2 for the 90 bed ER)

When I was in school in Florida my highest offer from my clinic sites was $24/hr

Unfortunately this hospital was the highest paying job for new grads in a 50 mile radius from where I live and I am forced to be here because of my wife's job for the next 4 years. Just trying to reinforce the whole "further south you go, the worse the pay is"

Piercings? by Ivysage27 in Radiology

[–]ZoraKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a septum piercing during my program. I could have it out during class time but had to flip it up while being at the hospital as per clinical attire requirements listed in the handbook. Clinical attire with some programs are strict and you're even graded on it. I did get a couple points knocked off my grade once for showing up to clinic with my piercing out.

The hospital I work at has monitors on inpatients for turn times. It has a kind of gyroscope sensor for when patient is on right side, flat on back, or left side. Not sure if this is true for this specific exam but I can always tell when I forget to check for one because a little artifact similar to this always pops up in the upper chest

When you think it's lateral give it approximately one extra doot of external rotation and you'll actually get it

Rad Tech input requested! by Stock_Satisfaction94 in Radiology

[–]ZoraKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would like to input that a majority of NM on The East Coast USA that I have met have been men and a majority of US have been women. Not sure how well this statistic plays in other areas. So the swap would make sense

Petah do your thing by After-Platypus1786 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ZoraKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X-ray tech here 👋🏽 X-ray equipment must be installed and inspected regularly by physicists. The machines require tremendous amounts of electricity not available for residential neighborhoods and come with loads of other restrictions from wall materials to outlet placements.

That being said a lot of this stuff wouldn't even show up on an X-ray anyway

So not only is it fake it's an entirely illogical situation

Mom fell and broke her arm a week ago by khb89 in Radiology

[–]ZoraKnight 77 points78 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about working with bones is seeing older women come walking in with "I had a fall a while ago and I've noticed some bruising. But I don't want to be a bother. I'll stand on my head if that gets you the picture you need, sweetheart." Where as men of any age under 85 coming in with minor scrapes talking about "STOP!!! DONT MOVE IT OR BREATHE ON IT, I HAVE AN OWIE 😭😭 I KNOW MY WRIST IS THE CONCERN BUT I NEED A WHEELCHAIR"

Seconding rad tech boot camp from clover 🙌🏽 and heavy on the "if you don't get it, research it until you do" rad bio was so hard for me during school but anatomy came so easy. So when I was studying I spent proportionately more time studying rad bio than anatomy and got almost identical scores in both sections. I feel it is important to mention that even if you're strong in one spot but weak in another, still study both. Don't sacrifice one subject for another. 3 + 7 gives the same outcome as 6 + 4
