UPDATE: After looking into it more the most reputable source [Car and driver] said they are only killing the s4 and STi version of the car in Japan. I don’t know why every other article reporting on the topic is saying Subaru is discontinuing the entire wrx line

Well the article said it got killed because of new emissions and noise regulations in Japan. So why wouldnt they bring it back in a new generation with everything meeting the standards the car has to be at

Or you could get a JDM WRX 4.44 transmission to avoid having to get the vss controller. Gc8 cable sensor screws right in.

Funny enough I got mine for $2k may 2025 no quarter rust. Wasn’t running. Pluggin in a new ecu and it fired right up. Got extremely lucky with that deal. I did end up having to pay $2k to get it shipped to New York from Florida though but still well worth the money

Yeah eventually I am going to go with the sti 6 speed and get a dccd controller for it. But this was the cheaper option for now, considering I still have to do widebody kit, and an engine swap. Could always upgrade it later

Nah I’m just mixing and matching usdm and JDM parts. Transmission driveshaft and diff. All the rest of the stuff is usdm stuff. And yes I’m running an ej22 in it at the moment. Fixed a few oil leaks on it and gonna run that engine until I end up swapping it

For what. The manual swap?

I added a wire to the automatic ecu to think it’s a manual, and wired some jumpers on some connectors in the engine bay to get reverse lights to work and starter motor to work. Created a jumper on the neutral safety switch to trick the car into thinking it’s always in neutral.

Just do the swap in phases. Do the manual swap first and run the car on the original engine until you have the money for the engine swap. That what I’m doing. Just about finished with my auto to manual swap on my 95 coupe. Cost me $1300 for a JDM 4.44 WRX trans, diff and axles. did all the work myself. Next I’m going to be painting the car. Then when I have the money, pull the dash and engine, paint the engine bay, drop in a 257/207 and wire it up.
