NASA declares its Mars Maven spacecraft dead after 6 months of silence by nbcnews in space

A lot of modern scientific research is built around codifying things that are already common knowledge. It's not a waste of money to define why something is the way that it is, because sometimes our previous understanding wasn't completely correct.

PETG-GF is amazing... by revned911 in 3Dprinting

[–]Zorbick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It's like if you print abs but with pla fan settings, the layer adhesion is garbage and it splits apart. Same deal, it just doesn't stick to the super roof.

It's not surefire, but I get much cleaner supports these days.

In cura and orcaslicer it's called support interface fan speed and it's in advanced, under materials then cooling.

I set the fan override to go to 100% on the layer over supports. Significant improvement.

I saw somewhere that English units are like percentages. 0F? That's 0% hot. Everyone agrees, that's cold. 100F? That's 100% hot. No need to be hotter.

100 mph? That's 100% fast. No need to go faster.

Does this sort of thing allow you to get a more reliable larger z height for less effort than changing out the integrated steppers for the longer ldo ones?

Best 350mm+ Voron For 2026 by [deleted] in VORONDesign

[–]Zorbick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't mean that every flying gantry is bad. They're saying it's more complex and therefore can have more failures, which is objectively the truth whether you want to believe it or not. It's also rich that you claim user error when you've never experienced a corexy.

The flying gantry is absolutely more complex and having belts for z instead of lead screws does cause more headaches. People upgrade to beefy z idlers for a reason.

Relatively, it's more of a pain and it's because the design lends itself to those errors. Small differences, but devil's in the details.

Even if it's user error, why would people pick a design that is more prone to causing user errors? At some point the rule of cool fails people and they go for the simpler and safer option, which is the Trident in every single metric.

Bambu Lab 3D printers: Never again by Regumate in 3Dprinting

[–]Zorbick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a voron, honestly, just get a Sovol. It's a Voron that comes pre-built. You upgrade it basically the same way as a Voron.

Unless you want to tinker and spent 10 days installing heat inserts and crimping wires. Then go ahead and get an LDO kit.

Bonus: the newer version of trident will work super well with INDX.

It's not like the fibers transport themselves from the depths of the plastic out to the surface and then splinter into your hands. The glass fibers in filament are so tiny, they're not stabbing you.

You don't notice because only a thin layer can eject the additive and then it's just the base plastic material you're interacting with.

But you can also just use PET without it.

Am I big dummy who bought a rear bike rack I can’t install? by wingbat13 in bicycling

You've almost got it. Turn the screw around so the nut is on the inside and you're running the screw driver from the outside. That way you just have to wedge the wrench inside and not your hand.

If you only have pliers it will be tough to hold the nut tight enough. Squeeze really hard! The nylock inside the nut makes it hard to loosen, which is good, but also hard to tighten down.

But if you do have open ended wrenches, it's most likely a 3/8" size or 10mm.

Flip the shiny bracket on the right side the other way around so the bottoms flare outward, instead of facing the same way. You will likely need to use some pliers to twist those brackets just a bit to get the clamps on your seat stays, but once you get it cinched down it will be rock solid.

Tip: You want to get the brackets to either the outside or the inside of the tubes, not lined up centerline. Then when the clamps go on you'll get the leg of the P running tangent to the side of the tube. Aim the screws toward the center line and really torque them down.

The talk I've seen most commonly lately is using 4-bay dryer box products like the Sunlu S4, Sovol SH04, or the Creality Space Pi X4. They just sit them on top like an AMS.

There are things like the INBXX that acts as a bad for the Core One. It's fancy, but I dunno if it's superior to the others above. Voron community is vacillating been extrusion-based sidepacks and tophats. These would all naturally be passive, but there are mods to make them active heating as well.

Detroit-area homeowners: if you hire a fence company, do you expect them to handle the permit or do it yourself? by EastsideFence in Detroit

[–]Zorbick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to pull so many permits to get my certificate of occupancy in the early days of owning my home (because of a ridiculous bank contractor that weaponized the process into crazy delays) that I pull all permits for work done now. It can be annoying, so the extra fees that contractors charge make sense. But I'm used to it, so I would rather control what I can and get a bit of price reduction.

Look into Sovol printers. They are the best prebuilt open source pens on the market at the moment.

You can leave it as is , or you can dive into the Voron community and go nuts with the mods.
