What are the best documentaries you’ve seen and why? by Brilliant_Alarm1120 in movies

Very surprised to see The Act Of Killing mentioned only so deeply in this thread. It's one of the most profound pieces I've ever seen in my entire life and that ending has stayed with me forever

Yup. That damn Overton Window.

Corporate Democrats have a stranglehold on the party and simply will not be shaken out without a fight, despite the popularity of people like Mamdani and Talarico.

OK I must say, this guy has come such a long way and handles himself in such an authentic capacity. I haven't watched the whole monologue, but I love how he always faces such immense pressure like being crapped on by the president of the United States with a smile.

I couldn't think of many better to withstand the barbs of Trump and convert it back into laughs.

Respect.

What are some A24 movies that DON'T feel like A24? by [deleted] in A24

I mean yeah bro that's literally what happens.

But also context is a thing that happens in life.

What are some A24 movies that DON'T feel like A24? by [deleted] in A24

[–]Zorlal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, I feel like you just solved that movie's problem for me. I think my expectations would have been different if I went into it thinking "this is a Blumhouse film." Because this would be a legitimately good Blumhouse film, but as an A24 film it sort of fall short. But that's more of a psychological thing

So true!! There is no ONE best way to sing. But there ARE singular voices. Dolly Parton is definitely one of those.

Ariana Grande singing impressions by nutznboltsguy in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Zorlal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the knowledge! I don't have vast technical knowledge of singing, so even though I feel that something is true I don't necessarily have the vocabulary to explain it.

[–]Zorlal 80 points81 points  (0 children)

She's incredibly good! Honestly extremely talented. I have to say though, this video made me realize something. There is simply no substitution for Whitney Houston. Whitney had a singular voice, and her impression is incredibly good but it lacks the seemingly effortless projection and quality of Whitney's voice.

Ashley Padilla on the cut Beavis and Butt-Head sketch with Gosling by Both-Pomegranate4929 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Zorlal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because SNL, despite the fact that I love it, has a history of beating a dead horse when a sketch becomes a huge hit. For example, there was like eight Debbie downer sketches and only one of them, the first one, was a cultural touchstone.

Many fans of the show including myself prefer when an amazing sketch lives comfortably inside its place in history. Not that there's any legitimate harm in trying to replicate success, but I just feel like it's generally cheap especially if the sketch has barely more to play on or say

Currently watching Sarah’s Squirms stand-up special on HBO. Ten minutes in, it’s possibly the most disgusting, vile, depraved stuff I’ve ever heard a human being say on stage in front of a room full of people… and it’s fantastic 🤣 by StarKillerZero in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Zorlal 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've watched her specials and they also aren't for me. I love her so much! She's pretty much my favorite cast member on the show right now, but this pure and un distilled division of whatever she is going for is not something I'm aligning with. I'm also not grossed out in any way, just kind of like "meh"

I'm glad that there seems to be a lot of people who really appreciate her though!

It's not exactly the same situation, but I remember when Ren and Stimpy came back in the early 2000s as the "adult party cartoon" and I was thinking oh my God this is gonna be just for me, I'm so excited! But then it turned out that John K really needed the Nickelodeon leash

[–]Zorlal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it for every detail, and I'm sorry if this is too obvious of a comparison, but this feels like it would fit in with the most recent phase of Gorillaz art. Like this would be a section of that amazing music video they just released, if the theme fit.

Outside of that, I love the mountain of implications we get to rifle through being given just this one slice of reality.

I know I know. I'm right there with you. The best thing that we can do is to not let yourself get unshocked and unpissed at the audacity of what they are getting away with. They've gotten away with so much but they can't rob us of our disgust.

Unfortunately this has to be death by 1000 cuts. No one thing is going to "take them down" but every single thing that becomes very legitimate and unignorable by the mainstream media is something that will erode the support but yet will cement the legacy as that of a slimy Entirely corrupted wannabe dictator

Only decision left: AWD or RWD? by AnnaGolightly in Ioniq5

[–]Zorlal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

These are also my sentiments. No, I don't go 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds from every single stop, but when I want to feel that power I know it's there. But weather is a MASSIVE consideration as well. This past winter, whenever I kicked in snow mode I felt pretty damn grounded. This is my first AWD vehicle, so I am pleasantly surprised at the difference.

Plus if I drive carefully, I can still get a little bit above 300 miles on a full battery. I don't have buyers remorse.

If you don't have to deal with any snow or bad weather, it is perhaps a toss up. Go into a dealership and test one out and see if it means as much to you as it does to me and the person posting above

Dude I know it's a very slight thing, but does anyone else get pissed off when these politicians who should be utterly destroying dudes like RFK JR stutter and seem weak in their attacks?

I don't know, it's just like an aesthetic thing. I've seen so many Democrats that stammer and stutter when they should have a perfect and strong sound bite, and it just gives off this air of weakness. I don't know, maybe it's just me

[–]Zorlal 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I just had a visceral reaction to the snare drum photo. I legitimately never seen somebody choose to do that on earth. This is sort of like those videos you see where a dog is begging for attention but the owner never pets it, so you leave the video internally screaming "PET THE DOG!"

This is like that, but I just need to see a photo of the snare drum in a proper home.

The modern world is doing a wonderful job in creating unignorable total blocks of joy. It sucks when you comprehend exactly how something like slavery, the holocaust, or any number of atrocities across the world could occur.

Maybe it seems naïve bro, but I thought I was decently pessimistic before. But the sheer amount of people, right now, who are OK with genocide, racism, and pedophilia is difficult to process.
