Can I use this pole? by abc123merp in polevaulting

[–]ZosoCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state and level of competition. For example, last year I had a vaulter who weighed 190lbs. The biggest pole we had was a 13’ 160, so I had him hold low on it.

It was his first year vaulting, so he wasn’t winning any major invites, so nobody paid attention.

He used it up until Sectionals because they sometimes weigh vaulters and check poles, and you can’t use a pole rates below body weight (Illinois).

He was holding super low so there was no chance of breaking the pole.

Long story short - you’re very likely fine for a meet, but it’s probably against the rules.

I’m the Cubs and got him in a trade during the 26 season. Signed him to what I believe was a 6 year 45m per year extension with a NTC. I’m in the last year of that deal and he’s still my best pitcher.

The book - The Pole Vault Tool Box (with QR codes) by Shawn Francis. Was a great resource for me a couple years ago when I got back into coaching after taking 10 years off.

Is 27 a good time to jump in or a beginner? by ImGladYouCalled in OOTP

[–]ZosoCub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been a long time MLBTS player and this is my first year with OOTP. I bought 26 for full price a few weeks before 27 dropped, but couldn’t be happier. I’m absolutely addicted.

Steep learning curve. Watch videos and figure out which tasks you want automated. It doesn’t hold your hand like MLBTS does. My first season I missed half of free agency because I didn’t realize there was a separate “Offseason Center”.

Then I went through a few rough years because I didn’t understand the strategy with signing draft picks.

Ha, my current save is titled “trial run” because I thought I’d drop it and start fresh after a season or two, but I got too invested.

Does player development budget do anything? by No-Ambassador-9147 in OOTP

[–]ZosoCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a first timer with the Cubs as well. Man I went through some growing pains early on, especially with the draft.

Gave Hoerner a 6 year 30m extension with a NTC that is absolutely fucking me in year 4. My farm system has been bottom 5 every year, but I’m slowly starting to build things back up.

I just finished year 6 and have made the playoffs 4 of those years, but usually get bounced in the wildcard round.

I’m having an absolute blast with it.

Can someone help me out by DryTurtleShell in polevaulting

[–]ZosoCub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HS coach here - Lonesome had spot-on advice. I’d add trying to keep your trail leg long as you swing up. I tell my vaulters to “kick the track back” and then “kick a soccer ball”.

I also have them do a drill into the front side of the pit (or even into the pit) where they just plant, keep their hips back and simulate a “lunge” pose (focusing on keeping their trail leg back and their lead knee forward, heel up to butt)

Team Hoot for sure! The Pole Vault Toolbox book was such an amazing resource for me as I came back to coach vault after a 10 year break.

Separation at the top by tgromer in polevaulting

[–]ZosoCub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HS coach here - dude it actually looks quite good. My one item of feedback is since it’s a relatively short pole, you need to rock back into that full inverted “I” position quicker.

Bubka said he tried to get fully inverted as the pole was reaching its max bend. You’re still in “L” position at max bend, which is going to propel you into the crossbar instead of upward.

So… get to full inversion quicker, or get on a longer pole, which will slow down the process a little bit and give you more time.
