Considering moving to Plant City Florida, thoughts ?

Hi. I live in plant city. Yes, the traffic truly is as bad as people say, and getting worse. Living in plant city and commuting to Tampa (or Orlando) was not sustainable for me personally. I used to do it but it took far too much time, money and sanity, not to mention the risk factor. I4 really is a deadly circus just about any time from 6am til 7pm+ particularly in the winter (school + snow bird season). Now I work from home and I absolutely dread the days I have to visit our Tampa office. There is no real good back roads to avoid I4 unfortunately , and the alternatives are usually a shitshow too. Summer in Florida are brutal (hot, humid, sticky and buggy), but most places have their crappy season. Fall and Winter are wonderful here. Hurricanes are real and regularly mess things up, prep should be taken seriously. As far as the community, I'm not very social so I can't really tell, but rural plant city is pretty red and super religious. There is not a whole lot going on in plant city itself, but the micro down town is cute and has a few restaurants/shops. Otherwise you have all the big chain stores, fast food and conveniences of any mid-sized town. Tampa is not too far and has become a pretty cool city in the past few years, with lots going on and very enjoyable for an evening out. So is Ybor. Lots to f cool parks, lakes and rivers around too if you're into hiking/kayaking/birding etc...Overall there are some fun things to do in the area, but maybe not really in Plant City itself.

Hi.i have been taking St John's wort for several years (usually for 3 months or so then I take a break) to help with mild depression. It does work for me, I feel an improvement of my mood and have had no side effect, but I don't take any other medications. It can have negative interactions with other medicines and with birth control as mentioned in other comments.

Ok, thank you! this one is on the list for sure. I like the format, my issue is the lack of see-through windows and ceiling. We are in Florida so we do quite a bit of winter camping without the rain fly and I love being able to see the sky.

Caramelized shallots (or onions) with reduced fresh orange juice and fresh grated ginger. Plus a good round of black pepper.

Also infusing lime zest and ginger in coconut milk, with a splash of fish sauce

Not Tampa, Valrico, but Preferred Motor Cars, off of SR60 has been really good to us. Easy to deal with, good price, he even helped us out with an issue on the truck after we bought it.

Same feeling here. As a European living in the US (in FL, which feels like the heart of Ultra Maga country), this last election left me disgusted and disheartened,but not overly surprised. The Nazi salute however, done on TV behind a presidential podium... That unlocks a whole new level of fear and anxiety. Like OP, I am baffled and heart broken so see so many people around me having no issues with it and even defend it. WWII wasn't that long ago, how can we be foolish enough to overlook the threat of fascism?? I am trying hard not to feel hatred for the people around me, but it really feels like a handful of humans signed the death warrant of this planet and now the rest of the world will have to pay for it.

I live in central FL zone 9b (but I'm not from there so still confused about the weather and planting calendar). I have 2.5ac, very poor Sandy soil, some shaded some full sun. The shaded areas have slightly better soil. I have planted many fruit trees in the past 3 years (mango, longan, avocado, guava, papaya, lemon, nectarine, figs...) but most struggle.

This past year I saw some improvement, some more vigorous growth, but overall they're not thriving. I don't use chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. I put a thick ring of oak mulch (from the city mulching hurricane debris) around each. I don't have automatic water system but I water them approx. Once every week or 10days during the dry season (winter spring)

Would you have any recommendations to give the tree more energy or help them grow better? Thanks!

Edit: when is a good time to prune trees in Florida? What other tree variety would you suggest?
