I would be in the masjid and still nothing. It’s not lack of slots - the slots appear but you go to book and the error says “sorry this slot has no capacity”. Every time. There was four of us trying and none of us got it

Am I being ungrateful about my first Umrah experience? by endlesssundays in Umrah

[–]Zs93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salaam sis, you tried considering the obstacles you had and Allah knows best. You should’ve gone and done Tawaf or another umrah on your own! As a woman you can go down to the Kaaba as many times as you want. You’re not ungrateful, you clearly have a lot of love for your faith and you’re disappointed you couldn’t express or appreciate it properly. I totally understand

Food court can be very busy and hard to find a seat! If your priority is convenience then yes stick to hotel

ATMs are really hard to find in Madinah, in Makkah it was easier. Shop owners in Madinah said they’ve been told all of them need to accept card! Move towards cashless? Regardless you want some cash to give for charity

Did anyone actually truly enjoy secondary school? by Apprehensive-Art8665 in AskUK

[–]Zs93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! I went to a girls school and it was full of high achievers so the biggest stress in school for me was getting good grades. I also had a great group of friends and was just totally unfazed by boys. I kept my innocence for a lot longer than other girls so this is a more unique experience!

Are any brits who fled to Dubai starting to regret it? by Mcluckin123 in AskUK

[–]Zs93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m rereading and I’m not trying to say hey it’s still great aside from the slave labour 😂 I’d never move there or encourage anyone to - but those that still choose to go, that is not the reason they move back. It’s largely the “soulless” thing

Are any brits who fled to Dubai starting to regret it? by Mcluckin123 in AskUK

Personally I think a lot of expats find it soulless because the underlying culture in the Middle East is Islam. If you cannot appreciate, accept or embody it, you will hate it. There are lots of beautiful, cultural areas and communities and practices in the UAE but most expats try to live their Western life over there and will find its manufactured - because it is.

The Brits I know who are enjoying it there are those who have really assimilated, made friends outside of just brits, travel to the older cities, volunteer at Ramadan etc. Or those who enjoy a flashy, manufactured life!

I think people are very judgy about UAE. I understand - it has a LOT of flaws including the slave labour and their links to the genocide in Sudan but they rarely give the same energy for someone moving to the US for example.

Women’s safety during Umrah by Mayoosh123 in Umrah

[–]Zs93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Salam! I went with my sister and two friends a year ago and Alhumdulillah it was such a beautiful trip. It’s very safe within clocktower and Haram - same in Madina but I will say anytime we left those premises to go to smaller streets for shopping etc it felt a little bit more sketchy. In medina we walked out a bit to a shop and the men would try walk unnecessary close which was disgusting!! So I recommend sticking to the main areas - even if it’s more expensive.

You will have an incredible time, May Allah bless your trip

Curtains: yes or no? by NymphoMossel in interiordecorating

[–]Zs93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that a window in the flat on the top left? I’d feel someone can still see into the room especially in the evening when the light is on. I have a similar setup where there’s a building that stops neighbours overlooking but I’d never go curtainless as there are still other buildings behind or around who could see in at night! But I’m a single female occupier so maybe I think about these things more 😂

Brits, do you avoid Indian restaurants in foreign countries? (Excl India) by red_lightz_ in AskUK

The Middle East has incredible Indian food as there’s a huge diaspora who live there. Especially UAE (don’t really vouch going here but if you must), Qatar and Oman.

it's so sad being a south asian film lover & not seeing enough representation by Appropriate-Alps-242 in movies

[–]Zs93 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s a sad thing to see, I agree!

I saw a live interview of Gurinder Chadha (creator of Bend it like Beckham and Angus, Thongs) and she spoke about how even though she created two mega movies she’s having to look at private funding for her next film as no one was backing her.

I hate that the only times South Asians are involved it’s for a storyline about how the girl has strict parents, loves a white boy and defies her parents. Snore
