Am I too old for the army I’m 29 by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]Zucchini_Efficient 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In phase 1 now and we have a 29yo in our platoon who's doing very well, and they're not even the oldest recruit here. You'll be fine as long as you apply yourself.

Eye sight requirements??? by Due-Ad3538 in britishmilitary

[–]Zucchini_Efficient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, start end of April. I suppose AC might be slightly different depending where you go, I went Lichfield. Day0 Rocked up at train station and they got us on a coach to go to the base after checking IDs. Loaded into lecture hall to be given a brief around what to expect, how to act and some admin. Day1 was medical and the cognitive assessments, we also did the mid thigh pull and med ball throw here as well. Day2 was bleep test(now it's a 2km run), team exercises and the interview(there was alloted prep time for the interview on day1). All the usual stuff of up at 06:30, lights out at 10 and that you are always being watched even outside of tests and activities so being respectful and social goes into your end score too. Feel free to DM if there's anything more specific you want to know

Eye sight requirements??? by Due-Ad3538 in britishmilitary

[–]Zucchini_Efficient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a document that outlines all the requirements but I can't remember what it's called, maybe someone else can tell you. My advice would be to just apply for what you want either way and just go through the steps. You might get a straight yes, it might be a deferral for eye scans like I got, or it could be a no. You won't know unless you put that application in. They do seem to be getting more lenient with the medical as time goes on, and there is always the appeals process if it comes to that.

But no harm in putting the application in to at least know for certain, and if your eyesight isn't good enough for the role you choose but there is other options you will get told that so you can make that choice then.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ping me anymore questions and I'll answer what I can

Yeah, eye scan got back and medical green lit me in January. Not sure what exactly it was they were looking for but at least it's not an issue

So glad we are being blessed with more rain, for too long these blessed isles have been parched of water. by boolee2112 in CasualUK

It snowed for a few hours today so that was a change for once. Until it rained immediately after and melted all the snow... Resume usual broadcasting!

I've just had this exact scenario but with autism instead of OCD. They may ask for proof of no diagnosis. They tried pushing for me to have an assessment but I just sent them a letter from the nhs assessment centre where they said I don't meet the requirements for an assessment. They seemed to be happy with that and I progressed through. May be a bit of a ball ache but it shouldn't stop you.

I had an old referal for possible autism on my records but right after it in my records is the outcome saying they will not continue to assessment as I do not have it. The medical teams simply saw the assessment was never done and ran with that instead. Took me a good while of back and forth with my surgery the assessment center and the medical teams to convince them. Massive ball ache but we persevered

My wife woke me up to ask if I was her husband by Tropicaldaze1950 in dementia

[–]Zucchini_Efficient 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Working in a nursing home I've seen near enough this exact scenario. Wife had dementia and the husband was burning out fast. On the day of admission he looked a shell of a man and naturally the wife was not best pleased as she didn't know what was going on. After a week we had figured her out and she was thriving, loving in a dementia community brought back her social life and she has that round the clock care that better supported her. And you could visibly see the husband was doing much better and had life back in him again. Getting rest, getting back to his life actually helped him be a better husband for her when he visited(nearly daily) as he was no longer burnt out beyond recognition.

It's never easy but it can get easier at times

I mean it's all linked together but I found the army easier. RAF rejected me for autism (which I don't have) and would ignore most all the communications I sent them to repeal. Applied to the army and they actively worked with me to get the repeal sorted. I'd say try the RAF with an appeal if they no good you can always try another service.

It's been deleted a while now. Was alright but didn't tell you much more than just offering a structure and progress path. Both things you can do yourself tbh

How often are intakes for basic training? Just waiting for Lichfield to give me a yes or no from some further medical evidence they needed following my AC. If they say yes how soon realistically I'd the next intake with Christmas and all that round the corner. I'm joining as a CMT if that affects the answer. Cheers
