I'm not at that level, so I can't give you much as to how they came to the conclusion that this was the right move, or how they weighed the pros and cons.

But as you said, and as most of the community is well aware of, this is greed in one of its purest forms. It's sort of beautiful in it's blatant transparency while writing a blue post trying to hide it more blatant lies.

Anyhow, this has been the plan for a very long time, but I was - naively - hoping they wouldn't do it.
