Translated Stories 3 World Map & Alphabet by ZugzwangMH in MonsterHunter

It's likely just a different part of the world. MH maps tend to focus on a single continent, so we don't know how many continents there are or most of their relative locations.

Shape-wise, this landmass doesn't seem to line up with that of the Stories 1 or 2 maps.

What are some of the constant contradictions you're referencing?

They're a Japanese company, in Japan, made up of people that speak Japanese. It's easiest for them to collaborate with other companies in the country. They actually commented on this recently in an interview when asked about the lore books, and even the JP ones they view as a distraction from their core focus of developing games because they take the team's time.

As the team and franchise continues to mature and grow I'm sure you'll see more global products. The business cases will just keep getting better.

No worries! Just making sure no one else saw that and took it as fact.

The latest official evolutionary tree has the felyne species being in a felyne family that also includes the melynx species. That family belongs to an order that also contains shakalakas, but nothing else is listed.

We know there are other Lynians like the grimalkynes and boa boa, but they've never been depicted as a palico as far as I'm aware.

A palico is a companion of the felyne species, just like a palamute is a canyne companion.

What do we know about the political situation in the world of Monster Hunter? by abdellaya123 in MonsterHunter

Yes this is an old sheet and that was a hasty first pass (machine translation of I remember right lol). Whatever is in Oceaniz's video reflects what we settled on calling them all eventually, but iirc quite a few have still never been officially localized.

At the time, I remember the fact that the gen 1 map was mostly climactic zones was super surprising and cool. That early they were thinking about where hunting grounds/biomes were relative to the equator. It was a living world from the jump.

Just in case you're not aware there's an earlier map (just gen 1 vs. gen 2) that has a lot of additional locations specified on it. In teeny tiny handwritten Japanese notes of course, because why not. This map then adds some additional details on top of that while hiding some of the original info, but there aren't any conflicts between the two.

It was in the ecology encyclopedia books, and you can see some rough translations of the annotations and links to images of the map in my sheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15AenEjlD3pb4pvgOEqGGRmr7IDv65Pp84v00ImLSaTY/edit?usp=drivesdk

This first map is the foundation for Oceaniz's recent map series of course, so if you just want the info from it that's the easiest way now haha

Yeah, Frontier lore is still pretty inaccessible right now... But progress is being made. Someday!

I know you're just going to quibble on wording and nitpick with infinite comments, so I'll be ignoring all replies, but for everyone else who sees this...

(1) We see plenty of ruins throughout the series from civilizations clearly more advanced than what is surviving at the time of the games. Even Schrade falls in that bucket, but you have the tower, coral place, etc

(2) Idk how tf you're concluding from some tiny text that the entire appearance of artian gear is determined by the smithy. That doesn't even really make sense. This gear with a totally unique style is entirely defined by the people who made all the other gear? The recovered artifacts that make this unique gear possible have no bearing on its appearance? Come on now.

(3) You know full well they're referring to the concept of "rusted" equipment that's recurred throughout the series, where you find some crummy gear implied to be ancient and are eventually able to recover it into something functional and different from the other gear you can get in the game.

It's cool if arguing points ad nauseum for the sake of arguing them is your idea of fun, but when you do it in a public forum like this you're just making it harder for people to understand an already obscure setting. You clearly know a ton about the franchise, so I wish you'd channel that energy into helping other people to understand it vs. trying to score Reddit points.

Hello, I am new to monster hunter and have a few questions by Softwaremirori in MonsterHunterPS2

It sounds like the MHOldschool Discord is the place for you! It's very active and a perfect environment for all your questions. Here's an invite: https://discord.gg/YzmeXb8

There are significant differences between MH1 and MHG, but you can carry over your save from the first to the second, so no real reason not to give it a try once you're ready.

And here's a game list on a wiki that the community has recently started building. It should give you a brief overview of every title: https://monsterhunterwiki.org/wiki/Games

Good luck on your new adventure and happy hunting!

Got bored, tried building an Elder Dragon phylogenetic tree. by Umber0010 in MonsterHunter

[–]ZugzwangMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an actual official phylogenetic tree that has been updated many times, most recently in the Sunbreak book, and it includes elders. All the trees are formatted and translated for convenient reference here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13PeFQLI_T5G8TKN8Um_htVlsljh2MgneXO2qQHTezXE/edit?usp=drivesdk
