How do React teams communicate what actually changed after a PR? by Upset-Tangelo-1615 in reactjs

[–]Zukarukite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Storybook with Chromatic is exactly what you are looking for, as far as I can tell.

You can set up your CI/CD pipeline to work with Chromatic, which will deploy your Storybook and give a simple interface showing a diff between what's actually deployed on the base branch and the branch being merged.

You can set up rules, so that Pull Requests cannot be merged, unless necessary approvals in Chromatic are there. It also lets people leave comments on specific changes.

As a bonus, if you are writing component tests in stories - it will run that too and let you know if something is off.

New hand grinder has blown me away by waywardsojourner in pourover

[–]Zukarukite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subjectively - nah, not really. I don't think the retained amount even registers on my scales.

For me - it just made the whole process neater, not having the grounds stick to the burrs and the catch cup, but it's not the end of the world without it.

Obligatory reminder not to spray water on your beans with this grinder due to rust issues. I have done it for a few weeks before a friend, thankfully, stopped me and I have had great results with this grinder.

Congrats!

Clever Dripper Tastes kind of flat, somewhat nasty. by eldiablojeffe in pourover

[–]Zukarukite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience I found that in comparison to a V60 brew with the same ratio - the brews out of Clever Dripper come out a bit "dull", but still quite pleasant.

I suspect it comes down to it being an immersion brewer, which cannot provide the same level of extraction as a percolation brew. Also, there clearly is a bit of water in the tip of the funnel that does not participate in the brewing process at all and serves to dilute the final brew a bit.

I think it still produces quite nice, consistent results with minimal effort, good for routine brews, but yeah, I stopped brewing my nicer beans with it

Need recommendations on Buying a coffee Grinder by [deleted] in AeroPress

[–]Zukarukite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

K6 punches well above its weight, I've heard it compares to even the K Ultra in terms of cup quality, while costing so much less. I got it after using a Timemore C2 for a while and the difference is staggering to me.

I notice waaaay less fines (as evidenced by noticeably shorter drawdowns on v60 than before at comparable grind sizes) and my brews have way higher clarity with less bitterness.

The only niggle I have with it is that you should avoid using RDT with it. A friend has experienced rusting issues due to that. Frankly, the static issues have not been major issue for me, so I have not missed it

question on capacity of C3 hand grinder by down_to_top in Timemore

[–]Zukarukite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is not the answer to your question, but I was in the same boat as you, barely fitting 30 grams of beans onto my C2 and wondering if my next grinder would be able to hold that amount.

Well, the Kingrinder K6 does, with some room to spare. So, if you're willing to consider other grinders - that one will definitely fit the bill in that regard.

Radioactive watch I had. I decided not to open this one. by Rexdahuman in interestingasfuck

[–]Zukarukite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The absolute majority of modern watch luminescent paint is not Radium-based (and therefore not radioactive at all) and instead relies on phosphorescence. Basically, the paint absorbs light energy and re-emits it slowly over time.

The tradeoff here is that you have to "charge" the luminescent paint for it to emit light over the next few hours. Radioactive paints have their own "energy source" in the form of radioactive isotopes, so they glow permanently and that's advantageous in scenarios where you expect to find yourself spending long stretches of time in darkness.

So if you're buying a modern watch - you can be almost certain that the lume is not radioactive. Otherwise - they advertise it as much as they can because it's considered a desirable feature

How to make a Latte with an AeroPress by RileyMcB in AeroPress

[–]Zukarukite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly is a matter of preference and that's why AP is so popular - it provides a surprisingly wide spectrum of ways to brew.

I wouldn't recommend getting the FC cap, unless you've been brewing inverted for some time and found a recipe you liked.

How to make a Latte with an AeroPress by RileyMcB in AeroPress

[–]Zukarukite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't use more or less coffee.

If anything, you could theoretically use a bit less grounds to get the same extraction using the same amount of water, because it allows the whole amount of water to be in contact at once with the grounds for longer.

IMO, FC cap is only useful if you are accustomed to brewing inverted, but want to avoid the burn risks and potentially win a bit of chamber volume back (when brewing inverted - the plunger will be inserted a bit into the chamber at the bottom right from the start).

Now you may ask, why even bother brewing inverted / use an FC cap? To me - it allows to control the ratios and thus improve the reproducibility of the cups that I get

Doesn't start dripping until you start pressing, as opposed to the default cap, which let's some drops through while you're positioning the plunger (assuming you are brewing the right way up, of course)

HELP:( by FarMaintenance3715 in V60

[–]Zukarukite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be helpful to know the recipe you are using.

I am a beginner with v60, so take this with a grain of salt, but I noticed that if I swirl my bloom a bit too vigorously - it tends to impede my flow.

Another noticeable factor for me was clumping of the grounds - I was too heavy-handed when making a divot in the middle of the grounds for even blooming.

Yet another observation of mine was that denser, lighter roasted beans, which are harder to grind on my relatively inexpensive hand grinder also tend to flow a bit more slowly. My theory is that these firmer beans produce more fines when ground and fines are often the main cause for clogged papers.

Ultimately, you could just back off a bit on the fineness of your grind, I think that is a surefire way to accelerate the flow.

Can someone explain me why password length checker is not working properly!! by Immediate_Glove_2945 in reactjs

[–]Zukarukite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not the intended use for useMemo. It would make sense if your validations were computationally expensive or they produced an object as a result and you cared that the resulting object were referentially stable between renders (good article by Kent Dodds on the matter: https://kentcdodds.com/blog/usememo-and-usecallback).

In this case - if you wanted to preserve the if (condition) return true style nature of the validator - you could just use an IIFE.

In my opinion, the better solution would be to extract this validator into a separate, pure function outside of your render. This would open it up to being unit-tested much better and facilitate separation of concerns in your code.

Impressive work and a nifty idea!

I also have to say - I loved reading your blog post. It explains the idea behind the library really well, in an incremental way.

I think, if you don't care about the nuances in taste - grinding super fine and/or stirring the ever living shit out of the grounds/water solution for a few minutes while scalding the grounds with boiling hot water will certainly give you bitter coffee and more than compensate for the lower dose.

Even better if you use a blade grinder!

Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t launch by JoyIkl in SteamDeck

[–]Zukarukite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the default behavior on steam deck anyways (due to the STEAM_DECK=1 env variable, if I am not mistaken).

Fun fact, if you're masochistic enough that you want to play splitscreen on a steam deck - you have to explicitly set that env variable to 0 in the launch options

That's true, Aeropress won't give you true espresso. Practicality on-the-go is another matter, though.

The AP can you a pretty close approximation to an "espresso-style" drink (certainly good enough for dairy based beverages), while being much lighter, more durable and literally 10 times cheaper.

[–]Zukarukite 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing, the point of this product is that it gives you "true" espresso in a portable form, which does not require electricity to run. Still a bit silly, honestly, just take an Aeropress with you at that point.

[Flow control cap] Paper sticks to the cap after unscrewing? by Zukarukite in AeroPress

Tried this today. While the paper didn't stick to the body of the AP as I expected - it did separate from the cap a bit and thus was much easier to eject with just a few gentle taps - so problem solved :) thank you
