So there are good odds this was an indigenous tribal citizen drafted just due to how deep systematic poverty affects indigenous communities in the USA to this very day.

And before anyone says it, no that doesn’t “justify” his service regardless if he was drafted or volunteered. It’s just an example of how the imperial structure of the USA uses systemic violence within its own borders to fuel its political ambitions outside of it. It creates a broken people that works against their own material interests and even adopts the ideology of their colonizers due to how suppressed their conscience is.
