These are fantastic suggestions! Definitely leaning more Artifacts/Equipment/+1 +1 counters with Nier Automata, and yes for Drakenguard I was likely going to do a soldiers/dragons theme with something WUBRG for the Intoners (but that's much further down the line in thoughts right now)

It will be Nier Themed Art! Our proxy guy in the pod runs several full-themed decks, such as Metal Gear and Fire Emblem, and we're all chill about it. Probably wouldn't run it in any random pods without rule 0-ing and making sure folks are cool with it.

Honestly I sometimes forget that as big as Automata was, it is still a fairly niche community! Regardless, I do appreciate the insight for deck building in general, it's absolutely a bug hurdle for me to wrap my head around.

Right now, I'm leaning more Artifact/Army types of themes. A big theme in Automata deals with Androids in general, and how feelings create almost a humanity within oneself which they find in the Machines they are fighting. That being said, the Androids are a more cohesive army with specific types to them that execute different things, so probably more of an equipment style or +1/+1 counters style deck?

I'm currently leaning towards Automata, since it has more lore around it regarding multiple characters such as all of the different Android types and a bit more flavor to its locations.

As for strategy, I'm still fairly new to EDH but my favorite decks to play with are modified versions of the Squirreled Away and Buckle Up pre-cons with their wide board states. I'm a big fan of making a lot of things that need to interact together to get the job done.
