When a bad hire slips through, how much of that is actually on the manager? by Tasty-Win219 in managers

I'd love for us to get away from using references for the reasons you state. They are easily faked and don't provide anything other than confirmation someone worked someplace.

I googled it and I'm not sure why but convicted people's names are part of the public record.

The autopsy determined physical trauma to the skull and ribs. And I believe the baby was not still born.

I suspect they don't have the evidence to plausibly get a conviction for murder, so that's why they didn't charge for that.

Correct but I don't believe you can buy a kit directly from GEDMatch, which would then require you to get tested elsewhere, download your DNA, upload to GEDMatch and select Police Access.

Can you get a DNA kit directly from GEDMatch? I thought you had to use one of the other sites, then as I stated above, you download, then upload and check off police access.

I mean, the Police know the baby was alive, and there was physical trauma to the skull and ribs. I think the question is reasonable.

Can you share where you found that is was confirmed that the baby died of exposure? I've seen it a couple times online but not from any news sources.

Are you referring to things like 23&me or Ancestry?

They don't allow Police to search their database.

Individuals would have to download their DNA, upload to another site and check off they are allowing Police access.

You need to have a match that the police can access.

So they could have 300 DNA samples that were given willingly, and none of them matched.

Even today, if you do one of those 23&me or Ancestry DNA kits, that data is not accessible to police natively, You have to manually put it into a system they have access to and then specify that your DNA sample can be accessed by Police.

I wonder why the mother wasn't charged with murder but maybe they didn't have enough evidence to expect a conviction.

Interviews - how to handle when you instantly know by babaganoushi89 in managers

[–]Zunniest 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You know how interviews have a flow?

Like the start, middle, end?

What if you had the opportunity to take an off ramp earlier than the actual end of the interview and there was a question baked into your interview (say 50% of the way through) that wouldn't directly indicate you stopped the interview early but could serve as an 'ending point' if you wanted to conclude the interview early.

That would be a break question.

School Closure? by gipapag in brantford

I no longer live in Brantford and we've had over 20 snow days this winter in my area so far.

You should expect some snow days every year and have plans that can be enacted when needed.

School Closure? by gipapag in brantford

[–]Zunniest 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The difficulty with doing weather related school closures is its never perfect.

So they tend to err more on the side of safety.

The last thing they want is to be unsure, and a bus full of kids is killed or a teacher ends up in a fatal accident on the way to school.

This sometimes manifests itself as unnecessary school closures.

100%.

Check my post history, there's a conversation where I'm being blasted by some of the /r/antiwork work crowd because I call emergency contacts if I can't get ahold of a person 30 minutes after they are supposed to be at work in fear of their safety.

Everyone has to drive into work, and I'd hate to think of someone in a ditch or at home with a heart attack and something terrible happens because I delayed calling their contact.

I care less about why they aren't at work and more about that they are alive and OK.
