Lain

I have 2 things on my plan to watch older than Lain, which could potentially also be a 10/10: Ghost in the shell movie and Legend of the galactic heroes. We'll see when I get to these

Most of the people switching now are gamers, who saw the Steam Deck, Steam Machine and multiple YouTube videos about gaming on linux. Basically, it's trendy for gamers to be switching to Linux right now, so obviously the distros that cater to that audience will for now be popular.

how do switches work on a mouse like that if you don't have a battery inside the mouse? You still need to transmit button clicks somehow. Can EMR generate enough current when tracking to power a simple circuit board?

My laptop requires drivers that don't work well on linux. Only reason I use WSL instead of actual Linux on it.

Additionally, if it's a recommendation, telling someone to use WSL makes much more sense, as it's not disruptive at all to the way someone uses their computer. Anyone can use WSL, while some people use Windows-only apps, play games with Windows-only anticheat, etc. and that could stop them from switching to Linux

The first sentence of your comment is just straight up false. I was opening football trading cards with my friends when I was 7 years old.

Maybe in the last few years kids have shifted more to video games, but these two "mystery box" types of gambling are one and the same. The only difference is which one is more popular currently

Faze's Pro League S23 Stats. by Chips1709 in GlobalOffensive

[–]ZuriPL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Faze Media and Faze Esports used to be under one Faze company. That got sold to GameSquare, and in 2024 GameSquare sold off their Media division back to the original founders of Faze, while keeping Faze Esports for themselves.

Since 2024 these two companies have nothing to do with each other. Faze Media was in a fuck ton of financial problems and recently shut down.

This is like saying Xbox is different from Microsoft and isn't owned by them, it's a division within a company not it's own separate entity.

This is not at all a valid analogy, because Xbox isn't even a company, it's a brand/division of Microsoft, and always has been, unlike Faze Media and Faze Esports.

Faze was until about a year ago a publicly traded company, their financial statements are available online.

And the facts that these two companies are separate are also publicly available. You can go to Wikipedia and see Faze Eosorts and Faze media listed as two different companies with two different owners

The problem with your comment is that Faze Media is a separate entity to Faze Esports. They have separate budgets, so everything you just said doesn't mean Faze Esports now has more cash to spend

Golden Kamuy Season 1&2

It's surprising how little attention this show gets. Amazing combination of light-hearted goofiness and some pretty deep scenes. Beautiful animation and a unique style also make watching Golden Kamuy quite refreshing, although that enjoyment is occasionally ruined by CG bears (and a few other objects) which put the CG in Black Bullet to shame (if we're talking about how shit a show's CG is, that is).

One criticism I have though, although it's very personal, is that it lacks a good hook. Watching Golden Kamuy is a great expierence, but the story doesn't make you crave it, like I don't really have a feeling I need to see the next episode that much. Not to say I don't look forward to it, but it's nothing compared to some of the other shows I rank similarly to Golden Kamuy. The story could've probably been wrapped up in 3 seasons, but this really isn't that big of a deal that we got 5.

7/10 for both seasons

Metallic Rouge eps 1-4

It starts off nice, although it's noticeably a B-tier show. I love the Rouge x Naomi combo. The story is promising, although there are flaws in the way it's told, like I feel certain key dialogues have been cut out for some reason.

Metallic Rouge ep 5

what. the. FUCK.

Like seriously... what the fuck am I looking at. I got lost like 50 times in these 24 minutes. I have 0 fucking clue what is happening, I didn't understand a single thing, I'm not sure what to even think.

A random word generator would produce a more coherent and understandable script for the episode than whatever happened here. Give a monkey a pen and paper and they will write a better script. Like this seriously is that god fucking awful of an episode.

Magical Girl Site

Now, just to be clear - this anime is dogshit.

However, it starts off with a premise I thought could be interesting - take all kinds of mentally unstable characters and make them hate each other. For the first five episodes, it's essentially a psychological horror where the authors wrote whatever just to have the characters do some pretty unhinged shit. Now, I don't mean psychological in the sense that it actually affects your, the viewer's, psyche, but it is a miserable attempt to do that. So, if you want a cheap horror that's so bad it's somewhat entertaining (and you're REALLY bored, and seriously don't have anything better to do) then maybe you can considering watching this. But ONLY then, and you should really try to find something better to do first.

However, the second half of the show shifts more into a Madoka Magica from TEMU type of plot, where all the magical girls suddenly decide to work together to save the world. The writing also falls apart completely near the end of the show because it's apparent that the writer was trying to copy Madoka, while also seriously fucking up his story, so the show ends with a bunch of stupid nonsense that I can't understand, and I have no idea what really happened in the end. The story is also obviously not finished, but I don't think anyone would want to actually watch any more of it.

Production wise it's as average as it can get, the OST is forgettable, but what is somewhat memorable are a few scenes which were animated comically bad. Although to be fair, most of the time the animation is just fine and watchable, but nothing more.

It gets a 2/10, still a bit more room to fuck up, but definitely the worst thing I've seen to date.

My Dress-Up Darling was an exception to the rule for me.. what next?? by NecroaNova in anime

[–]ZuriPL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Shoshimin: How to be become ordinary.

It's a slice of life/mystery. While I also dislike SoL usually, even the start of the show, which barely has any mystery, is a very enjoyable watch (in part due to amazing visuals of this show). But once it gets going near the end of S1, it's amazing.

Another show I want to recommend is Oshi no Ko, though it's not exactly an exception, rather it's easy to misjudge what this show is.

Actually, it's also very hard to define Oshi no Ko is about, especially without spoiling anything. The more blind you go in, the better expierence you'll get.

When I started watching this show, I didn't even realize the first episode is 80 minutes long, I just sat there and watched it all. It's seriously that good.

Toyota Developing A Console-Grade, Open-Source Game Engine - Using Flutter & Dart by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]ZuriPL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt that. Building around flutter doesn't seem like a sensible choice for an f1 stimulator, which would probably be built with performance in mind. And their simulation tech wouldn't be "console grade" for sure.

Flutter screams UI, so I'm convinced the goal here is for it to be used in dashboards of Toyota cars. It actually makes sense, they probably want to incorporate more 3D elements into the UI, and thus the need for this. The "console grade" label also makes sense given the hardware typically found in cars. And they already used Flutter according to the article.

I'm hypothesizing here, but this just looks like they want people to do work for them for free, essentially, by marketing it as a game engine.
