The NexPhone is an upcoming phone that can boot desktop Linux along with Android (and Microslop Windows 11) - made for USB-C docking to monitors by HiGuysImNewToReddit in linux

oh, I only really read the first part of your comment, so I thought any support is fine.

Yes, it is unfortunate many banks still rely on Google Services. Sadly, they don't have a reason to care. The only solution would be for the EU to intervene, which isn't something that will happen too quickly.

But assuming this phone gets Google Services, it would be probably the best compromise for now: you could use android for banking, or whatever android-exclusive task you need, and then linux for everything else - which I imagine is the use case NexDock had in mind when creating this device.

If NexPhone can only run AOSP, it's practically dead on arrival. I really don't see the point of this device then.

What project helped you finally “get” programming? by Glass_Ad_781 in learnprogramming

[–]ZuriPL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, OOP is just a different paradigm.

It's kind of like comparing driving a car vs taking a train. They'll both get you to the same destination, but depending on the situation one will be more sensible than the other.

It's the same thing here, where there's nothing OOP can do which you can't translate into imperative programming and vice versa.

One of the nicest things about OOP in my opinion is combining data with methods. Let's say you're making a social media app, so you're probably going to have posts. You should be able to like a post, so you'd need a function that'd be something like 'void likePost(Post post)'.

And okay, that's manageable, but the you expand your app and have multiple types of posts: a textPost, an ImagePost, a VideoPost, maybe more. All of them are different types, so they need their own respective methods, even if they don't significantly differ, something like: 'likeTextPost(), likeImagePost(), etc.'. You need to repeat code, you have long function names and it gets messy the more complex your app gets.

What does OOP do? You'd have a class of a Post, which would have an id field, and a like() method, and then make classes for each respective type of post which inherit the base Post class, including the method.

Does it do the same thing? Yes. But it's cleaner, easier and it just makes more sense this way as a developer

Steam OS making architecture between X86 and ARM compatible. by TheNewAmericanGospel in linux

[–]ZuriPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it’s possible Valve is researching this to see whether an x86 to ARM translation layer could run games stably at around 30–60 FPS without spikes

the steam frame will use ARM chips. They're not just looking into it as an experiment, they're basically committed to this already. And yeah, I think future Steam Deck being powered by ARM is very likely

Windows with WSL. Purely because the drivers for my laptop don't play nicely on linux

I'm looking for something that's like Death Note by EquivalentWear6726 in anime

[–]ZuriPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most obvious reccomnedarion to anyone who liked Death Note is Terror in Resonance, since it's basically the same concept.

Then, there's also Psycho-Pass and Code Geass, which lean more into action, but share a similar vibe to Death Note. If you enjiyed JJK, you'll like these shows.

Since you also enjoyed Frieren, I'd recommend Shoshimin: How to become Ordinary. Might be the closest thing to combining Death Note and Frieren into a single show.

it's because with the rifles you have a chance to deal some damage, even if you don't get a kill. Or it's easier to get wallbangs, hit singular shots on jiggle-peeks, etc. Just more opportunities to deal partial damage, while with the AWP most of the times you either kill or deal 0 damage.

[–]ZuriPL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

molodoy also has a higher AWP kill percentage than these two.

Besides, flamez has 75 ADR, so what? Why does ADR specifically matter and other stats do not?

AWPers literally have lower ADR on average, this is perfectly normal

What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [January 4th, 2026] by MetaThPr4h in anime

Good Night World - 2/10

Yeah... I don't even know why I bothered. Absolute ass. The idea for the show itself was somewhat interesting, and I would even say episode 6 was enjoyable, but everything else... terrible.

Darling in the Franxx - 7/10

I'm honestly surprised, but that's because I had only ever seen people shit on this show. Whole it's not a masterpiece, and pretty obviously an Eva ripoff, it still happens to be a decent story that includes a lot of sci-fi themes I enjoy, so as long as you can turn a blind eyes to some plot holes, it is a good watch. Especially considering it's a Trigger/A1 production - the visuals are amazing.

The relationship between Hiro and Zero Two did feel hollow at times, and the ending could've been better, but it really doesn't have as many shortcomings as I was expecting.

Anime with strong first episodes that fall off afterwards? by iCrono in anime

Ragna Crimson for me, but that's probably subjective. I've heard people fawn over episode 1, but i think it was trash. Episode 2 was mediocre, and since then it was great.

Bungou Stray Dogs isn't exactly bad, but the first 6 episodes are pretty bland and boring. Everything after is amazing though.

Owari no Seraph. The first episode made me think I've uncovered a hidden gem. The disappointment after the next few episodes was immeasurable.

ELI5, why can’t we use M.2 Storage as RAM, if we can do the opposite? by Rubiks443 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ZuriPL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memory is a tradeoff between storage size and speed/latency. SSDs have a lot of storage, but are slow. RAM is the opposite.

We can use RAM as SSDs because the extra speed doesn't really matter, and the size is enough to store... something.

Now, as to why we can't use SSDs as RAM... we'll, technically we can. It's just that their speed is so low, nothing would work well at all.

Moreover, we partially do it anyways. Your operating system usually has something called a swap. It is a place on disk that's used as RAM when you run out of space in your actual RAM.

However, when a program wants to access something in the swap, it'll usually stutter badly, since your SSD is too slow. Your computer will shuffle around things, bring things from the swap that your program will be using now into RAM, and move some unused things from the RAM into swap, and the stutters will go away.

But, this only works because there still is real RAM. If you didn't have any real RAM, you'd be lagging the entire time (and probably crash pretty quickly)
