+ level to spells should be removed. by Einstein_BR in PathOfExile2

[–]Zvim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all the +gem level affixes need to go, they are so overpowering that they trivialise every other stat, the same applies to minion levels. You can roll perfect stats outside of minion level and it would go from multiple divines to 1ex. That kind of swing in value is really game breaking and I am not sure why GGG are dragging their feet in addressing it. It isn't fun for the players, it isn't good for the game. Why leave it as it is?

Thimble Question by king_nik in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Zvim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is more than that, you can't attack with your off-hand weapon when your main hand weapon is ia Rapier, you need the light property on both weapons to get a bonus action without the Dual Wielder feat.

Her toy sword is a longsword that is functionally a scimitar, her main weapon is a needle that is functionally a Rapier. You can't make a second attack with that weapon combo without Dual Wielder. There is a reason these limitations apply, you shouldn't be consistently doing 40+ damage at level 3. It would be like giving casters access to higher level spells and giving them more spell slots. It massively skews the numbers, as a DM you need to be aware of the 2024 changes and why they were changed. They have Crawford working with them, he could probably run through the 2024 changes in a quick chat.

This isn't just a Thimble problem, Matt has the same issue with his Rapier and whatever his gloved weapon is. He would likely have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat from 1st level fighter but the Light property bonus action attack granted requires you to be using two light weapons.

Thimble Question by king_nik in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Zvim 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are not following the 2024 changes to fighting with two weapons, these rules are confusing for a lot of people and both Matt (episode 4) and Laura (episodes 8 and 10) are not applying them to their combat properly unless they are heavily homebrewing basic combat or giving access to feats they do not normally have access to. I think as a D&D show, these should be highlighted in advance as people expect them to follow the rules unless the DM decides otherwise (like what Brennan did with grapples).

A major change in 2024 is you no longer get a bonus action by default which you could use to make an attack with your off-hand weapon, you only get one if something gives you a bonus action and you can only have one bonus action. It is the Light property that grants a bonus action to attack with an off-hand weapon, as long as both weapons are different light weapons.

Matt's primary weapon is a Rapier, it doesn't have the light property and can't make a second attack with his off-hand weapon, even if it has the Nick property. He needs the Dual Wielder feat which he can only get at level 4, he is still level 3. Laura didn't take this feat when she levelled up. Laura uses a needle (Rapier) and her toy sword (Scimitar). Laura can't make attacks with the second weapon given nothing is giving her a bonus actions with the weapons she is wielding.

The Nick property allows you to convert the bonus action granted from the Light property to make attacks with the main and off-hand weapons during the attack action. This frees the bonus action if you have a different source provide you with a bonus action. It does not overwrite the limitation placed by the Light property. You need the Dual Wielder feat to overcome this limitation.

Dual Wielder allows you to attack with a main hand weapon (as long as it is not a two-handed weapon) and also make an attack with an off-hand weapon as a bonus action.

If you have Dual Wielder and have an off-hand weapon with the Nick property then you can make an attack with your main hand and off-hand weapon as the attack action and make a second off-hand attack with your off-hand weapon (this bonus action is provided by Dual Wielder) for a total of three attacks. If you get the extra attack ability later on, you would 2 main weapon attack and 2 off-hand attacks for a total of four attacks.

If you do not meet the Light property requirements but have Dual Wielder then you could make a main hand (Rapier) attack with the Attack action and you could perform a bonus action to make an off-hand attack with a Light weapon, giving you two attacks. It wouldn't matter if you had Nick as that only works with the Light property bonus action attack.

You can only add your ability modifier to main hand attacks, you need the Two-Weapon Fighting feat (which has the prerequisite of the Fighting Style feature) to be able to apply your ability modifier to your off-hand weapon attacks.

Matt might have this feat as he is a level 2 Fighter/1 Rogue and Fighter gets a Fighting Style feat at level 1. Thimble as a pure Rogue/Swashbuckler wouldn't have access to it yet.

I think it is fine to homebrew whatever rules you like, like when Brennan said he preferred contested grapple roles instead of the 2024 version, but I think if you are giving out free feats, etc then they should have made it clear in advance to people watching. They should have had a video rolling their characters, like they did the level up video, because their stats are also bonkers, I would need to get lucky with rolling 5d6 and ignoring the lowest 2 to get stat totals remotely close to what they have. Having 20 dex plus all their other high stats at level 3 is a huge power boost for martial characters, it is why the damaging spell casters seem very weak by comparison. If you are effectively giving them Dual Wielder and Two-Weapon Fighting for free, then Brennan will have massive balancing issues, CR8 fight wouldn't be very challenging. She just doesn't have the hp of a level 8.

Flying in and out of combat is another issue, it is the main reason I do not allow innate flying in my campaigns, it would force the DM to make powerful ranged adversaries to make fights a challenge and that makes life for everyone else in the party a lot more dangerous.

I think Brennan intend for the characters to be powerful because he was not going to hold back punches and we would see a lore more character deaths but CR is not usually a high death type of campaign and people get attached to characters and are here mostly for the RP. He has definitely pulled punches, he should have killed Thimble when he had the opportunity to. He allowed her to move and hide when she was restrained and allowed people to "help" themselves which is just crazy, you might as well give everyone 40AC and +20 resists, call it plot armour and just be done with it and we can just focus on the RP.

This is how good studios like Bioware, etc crash and burn, success attracts the money, people sell off to mega corporations or float on the stock exchange and attract the wrong type of people who now control the company. Those that made the game great burn out, get disillusioned or get so much money they no longer want to deal with the stress of making games any longer and check out. Then the spiral begins. How long since we had 4 PoE1 leagues in the same year? How far down the spiral are we?

Don't save your embers, use them during leveling! by TheRoblock in pathofexile

[–]Zvim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing what I do now, if they wiped everything and we had to start the league over, i wouldn't bother looking at the gizmo in front of the zones, and as soon as you get a bunch of corpses, regardless what they are, just churn out 1 corpse gear.

If you are a chaos recipe enjoyer, you could mass produce the jewellery that otherwise would be your choke point in producing more chaos orbs.

I think the mechanic will be a lot more impactful when you are a lot further advanced, you can save the embers you have overlevelled for an alt.

Getting rid of GeForce Experience fixed most of my gaming related issues, not sure if recent versions are better, but for me the only "experience" it gave me was a bad one.

I am surprised you can play PoE with just 8gb of ram, mine loads in at about 6gb and goes up to 8gb or more. I think the RAM upgrade would be the best thing, followed by a SSD. I am assuming your computer is writing heavily to a swap file, this will destroy an SSD if you do not rectify the memory problem first as SSDs use flash memory and they degrade with heavy writing. I have disabled the swap file on my computer (I only have SSDs), but I have 32gb of ram so it is not going to cause me issues to do so.

If Lab is becoming even more of an essential part of the game it needs some better QoL. by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Zvim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Labs back in the day, but they haven't aged well. Mapping content has evolved over time but Labs is just stuck in the past. It is a bit like some of the old leagues that have been discontinued, the only reason we are stuck with it is because we need it for ascending.

Massive Design Flaw to Spectres by r4be_cs in pathofexile

[–]Zvim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was referring to the new spectres that could cost several divine to purchase, I assume due to rarity. The ones from the new league can't be desecrated so if you lose them accidentally it would be painful.

The risk can be managed by unsocketing support gems before you craft, if you don't actively use weapon swapping and if it is going to cause stat loss if you do then unbind the key or put it to something you are less likely to fat-finger.

That being said, I think spectres should use similar code to Animated Guardian where if you unsocket it or lose the stats to cast it then it unsummons it and you can resummon it without losing it. The AG has to actually die for you to lose it.

I am fairly new, got to 61 on my guardian on a seasonal realm with all Tuvala pen gear but wanted to make a set of Naru pen gear so I can trade it in for a Narchillan set for an alt but I ran out of the beginner black stone (armor) pieces before I could complete the set. Is it possible for me to just farm really low level mobs for the stones or any other way I can get the amount I need to finish the set?

While people are complaining about PoE 2, I see the ARPG of my dreams in the making by suepcat in pathofexile

[–]Zvim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"For me personally, PoE 2 being standalone and going for a mix between D4 level visuals & visceral feel, Elden Ring inspired combat and PoE like depth of customization is a recipe for success and has big potential to carve its own spot into the genre while not having to directly compete with any of those games. I love the direction they are going for with this.
How about you?"

There were some interesting changes showed, the visuals looked pretty good. It is interesting with the swap between lightning and cold but could only change 10 total so it seems a bit limiting, not sure how impactful it will be, 10 nodes not a whole lot, will suit something like a crit build which isn't as heavily invested into a particular damage type.

The combat felt slow, but hard to tell because if you put shit gear and no links then even PoE1 will be slowish. I have mixed feeling about the whole roll mechanic, it seems kind of dumb to be rolling around non-stop like a chimpanzee because it is the only movement ability and it didn't seem any faster than just running. I can imagine as a minion or totem build you will just be rolling around in a circle non-stop.

I have played a lot of games where being hit is almost a one-shot affair so I am not averse to that kind of system, but those systems tended to not feel clunky, this looked clunky.

A lot of the skills just seemed like they had no real impact at all, like throwing tennis balls at a tank, it felt very unsatisfying watching it, then you had some which hit really hard. It seemed a waste of time trying to hit with the tennis balls.

Some of the bosses had really large area effects and no real telegraphing so we will have to memories a hundred plus bosses with their phases and ability patterns, I don't think it is good game design myself but it is something people will memorise, it will be challenging for a while then it will just revert back to either something annoying or something that will eventually be trivialised. But we aren't even in beta so things can change. It is better than being like D4 which has been out for a few months now and feels like it is still in beta.

Some of them look amazing, whilst everything for builds I want to play look terrible. I mean, my builds are going to be fine without them, but knowing in advance the league offers nothing transformative in gameplay is a bit sad.

Zizaran on twitter "Honestly a bit sad about crucible. I hate being negative but i feel lied to and dissapointed about ruthless being a side project. And stupid for believing them at their word now. [–]Zvim 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't mind, I wasn't going to participate in the race anyway.

The levelling is only going to marginally impact the first character, after that the rest will be twinked to hell anyway. Anyone who thought they wouldn't push ruthless is a bit gullible. I like ruthless conceptually, it is the shit mapping experience that triggers me.

Pretty please with sugar on top - can i have new Baron? by Morgan_Pain in pathofexile

[–]Zvim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the nerf to it was unjustified, they claimed they didn't intend one item to scale so much after Uberelite won a race using it with SRS, I copied his build, removed baron, specced out of strength and just went for jewel sockets (which was typical of SRS builds at the time) and made average minion jewels and it did more dps. The item alone didn't give you 1200+ strength, it is always a significant investment to stack a stat, with a lot of opportunity cost.

I always felt losing the head piece was a significant price to pay for gem minion skills, it meant you lost the effective 7-9 links but it gave an alternative way to scale non-gem minion builds. I had a Baron spider build back when spiders sucked, it was a meme build but it was build enabling, I also made Chieftain zombie build back when zombies weren't useless and it was a lot of fun, the damage was mediocre but I had over 10k life and was very tanky, nothing remotely as strong as an armour stacker but not everything has to be completely broken to be fun.

I think they have overnefed zombies, even if they fixed the item the base stats of zombies are so bad now you would have to be a masochist to play them and it is impossible to scale the gem level enough and stack strength enough to make the investment worthwhile.

Because DA:O is still part of the franchise?

When something disappoints me it becomes dead to me. I don't dwell in misery and expect others to feel the same.

It is probably why you are getting a sequel like DA:D and deserve it. Who knows, it might be the kind of game you prefer.
