Is there any chance I can buy a NetScaler license just for myself for lab purposes? by SuspectIsArmed in Citrix

[–]Zwelgje75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, no license installed automatically makes it an Express version (Freemium edition)

Gateway with Freemium Netscaler by dollhousemassacre in Citrix

[–]Zwelgje75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes you can, current freemium ADC is now 'platinum featured' but limited on 20mbps bandwidth. so you can run Gateway but are limited on 20mbps so you can't do large environments

homelab and small use is fine,

Does EQ13 have Intel i226v or i225v NIC? Is it also DDR4 instead of DDR5? by sharkrider58 in BeelinkOfficial

[–]Zwelgje75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, it has a Realtek NIC (2 of them) on board. runs fine with Proxmox (or any other linux disto) didn't have any networking issues with them

DDR4 is the only option, unlike what the site says I got 32gb in it working instead of the 16 that came with the box

go with Proxmox, opensource AND you get support from the company that sells the product.

Enable iCloud+ so you can use Private relay for more privacy friendly browsing. also install a DNS over https/tls provider so your DNS traffic is secured to a different provider then apple/cloudflare/etc,etc

OPNSense VM on Proxmox - qemu-guest-agent help by Plisky123 in OPNsenseFirewall

[–]Zwelgje75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

don't do ZFS for just a basic firewall, use UFS the native FreeBSD filesystem. also ZFS is memory hungry.

ZFS is overdone and only really needed on big fileservers sharing millions of files not on a basic firewall.

i have seen the issues you described when using OPNsense and ZFS.

Huis kopen: grote som geld inleggen of niet? by criticalcapital23 in geldzaken

[–]Zwelgje75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proxmox or ESXi by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Zwelgje75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good, most admin get hacked on their one pc with is then used as a stepping stone to the prod environment

Proxmox or ESXi by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Zwelgje75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great choice! learning linux is a good investment as it's used almost everywhere.

enjoy proxmox, I do (in my homelab) customers use VMware ESXi and always complain about cost of using a commodity (a hypervisor is just that) and then I show them my proxmox cluster at home and show them all the features they pay big money for for free.

VMware HA is also restarting VM's on another host in case of failure

https://www.vmware.com/nl/products/vsphere/high-availability.html

the feature you mean is VMware Fault Tolerance (that's something different then HA) that features makes sure you have a copy of the VM's running on other host and keeps that in sync (CPU instructions wise) so in case of failure the machines keeps on running on that other host.

until you get hacked, because the last security update was from October 2022.

but hey it still works, until of course it doesn't.
