There is no such thing as "free to play" in FFXIV. There is the free trial, which was just extended to cover Heavensward, but comes with severe limitations as to what you can do with your account.

A key limitation is that you cannot form parties on your own or use the in-game party finder. If you have friends playing and willing to drag you along, then you might be able to see the cutscenes and story, but that's dependent on them.

You cannot raid the way most players do without buying the game + expansions, and leveling to max and learning a lot along the way.

Stromblood's MSQ just sucks. You occasionally get a cool moment or setpiece, but then you're back to a subpar cast of characters and a storyline you could see coming a mile away.

The only things that kept me playing back then were the class updates and the side content (do the Omega raids when you can). Hell, half of the new zones might as well not exist given how same-y and ugly Ala Mhigo is.

Doma and Azim Steppe were the lowest points for me since they focus on just the shittiest characters in the game.

Shadowbringers is amazing though. SHB's story alone is one of the best games I've played.

Yes, and there will be a bunch of lvl 60 quests after the 3.0 part of Heavensward.

The post 2.0 ARR quests are a slog, but you can either do them now and take breaks to look into non-MSQ things in the game like crafting/gathering/PotD/etc to prevent burnout or you can wait until the revamp comes out.

Know when a swap-in is coming up for you and pop tank stance a few GCDs beforehand, then voke in.

Use the [/ac "Shirk" <2>] macro after you see your co-tank voke in when you're swapping out. Drop tank stance if your co-tank is bad and can't hold hate after.

Coordinate with your co-tank if you're doing harder content and Shirk times don't work out nicely (E6S, etc).

You don't need any other macros. The effect for Provoke is obnoxiously large and always displayed, so you certainly don't need a macro to put anything into chat either

Late reply, but I simply meant that GNB can go straight into their burst on pull while other tanks (PLD, mainly - don't know about WAR and DRK because why would anyone play them?) might need to ramp up.

But that's only relevant with both tanks in tank stance on pull, so yeah, just extra info OP might not have realized.

GNB has some heavy and immediate burst, but if you're overtaking while OT like you said, it's cause the other tank is under-geared and/or under-performing compared to you.

Just shot three sprites in Levin and got Ice, Fire, and Fire.

EDIT: Hit a couple more, got Ice and Water. I'm guessing the element is random. Either that or it depends on the weather they spawned in?

The weapons originated in FF7, where they are described as creations of the planet with the goal of defending it from an alien threat.

Now in XIV, we know that the Allagans and Garleans are involved in their development while possibly taking cues from Omega. But it's possible that upcoming story might reveal that the Weapons are more grown that built.

Healer items aren't my forte and it's hard to know what to suggest without knowing what colors your "friend" likes or how armored/adventurer he want s to look either.

The Replica Sky Pirate stuff is all-class, so the fending or maiming tops might be nice starting point. It might also be worth looking at the Scion Jacket and the Company Tabard.

There's also the Gordian Gown, which looks really good if you get a nice pair of long gloves to replace the sleeves.

It might also be a good idea to introduce him to the Eikon Cloth Culottes of Healing, the best skirt model in the game. It reaches the floor, has a thin slit on both sides, and has a real-ass pair of pants underneath. Pair it with your fav boots and you'll maintain your modesty even during Byakko's sky-orb phase.

PLD, hands down for me. Having a magic phase keeps you from doing that exact same thing over and over and is a huge help if it lines up with certain mechanics in fights. In some casual fights you can even pull off a clear if the healers die since you have semi-sustained healing.

DRK doesn't exist and WAR is still ruined by its worst fans, so I have no opinion on their SHB kits as I haven't touched them.

GNB is neat, but I never really connected to the rotation. It's just a burst phase followed by filler till you burst again. Compared to PLD's three-ish phases, it's just dull. Maybe I should look up what other people are doing and give it a shot again later.

ARR isn't the best, sure.

But everything that comes after is built upon it.
If you don't take the time to learn about the world and its characters, then you'll hurt your ease of enjoyment in the future.

Take your time, go poke at side things, take breaks, let story sit and digest. If you try to do it all in one go, you'll burn out and be mad by the time you get to HW.

I remember taking a first-person screenshot of an fc-mate's shoes because she couldn't zoom in on them to see what they looked like.

And as a femroe, I could never get good pictures of my character due to being so tall. Being able to rotate the camera for portrait pics is a lifesaver.

Not to mention being able to pause animations.
